DIY Fun sock toy We put together the coolest toy. Gizmo loves it. 1. We took one of those hospital "socks" with the tread on the bottom, but I'm sure you can use any kind of sock. 2. We put a Dr. No replacement squeaker in the bottom. (You can pick a package of them up at Petsmart). 3. Then, we put an empty water bottle without a cap in the sock after the squeaker so that the squeaker is on the bottom. 4. We then took an empty treat bag from Petco and wadded it up. We put that on top of the water bottle. Any kind of plastic that crunches will work. 5. Then, we stretched the sock, tied a knot, and tossed it to Gizmo. Have fun! He has so much fun with this. :D His favorite thing to do is shake it by the knot and fling it across the room! :D It's hilarious to watch. |
:p Thx for sharing. I can imagine how much Fun Gizmo is having with that. If there is a sock lying around our house or if I happen to drop one out of the dryer, you can bet Bella will be right there to grap & run. She will love this!:D |
What a fun toy! Thanks. |
What a cool idea! I'm gonna have to try this! Meeko goes thro toys soo fast and I'm tired of grabbing out the needle and stuffing to repair them. This will be an easy toy to give him in between. Thanks! |
Banjo loves both- sock and empty bottles!! Cool idea!!! Thanks for sharing! |
Leave it to you Judy to come up w/ a great fun toy...and a good way to recycle too! |
Thank you, you are so sweet. :) Hey! We all just help each other, right? ;) |
Judy that is such a great idea - I never heard of a hospital sock but will have to try a baby sock for Izzy..lol. Hey we need a video of Gizmo and the sock.;) |
Hi there! :) A hospital sock is just a sock with some thingies on the sole for traction. I've seen them in the store too, usually around Christmas or the start of cold weather. I'm sure a regular sock would work as well. A video would be fun, but I'm so busy these days, I haven't even had time to take regular photos of him. |
And that's the way it should be...;) Thanks for sharing! |
Thanks so much for sharing this great idea. I made this toy for Lily yesterday and she went BANANAS for it! She actually put holes in the first sock, after playing with it for over an hour. So I replaced it with a new one. I put some hard treats in the water bottle because I didn't have a squeaker. I was a little skeptical at first because she usually doesn't bother with toys.. BUT THIS WAS A HIT! It's light enough for her to whip around, and the crinkle sound combined with the shaking of the treats kept her engaged for a long time. :thumbs up |
We will try this also, I'm sure my Gizmo won't share with the others, I may need four of these!!!!:goodpost::cool88: |
I just made one of these. I had just thrown away a sock with a hole in the heel. But I put it together any way. Surprising, it was my little one Teddy who decided it was "his"!!! he tore the bag right out of the hole and is going at the water bottle now!!!!! I also just put treats in the bottle to rattle, and of course the bottle makes noise also. I don't think I'll get it away to mend the hole!!!! lol Try this for your babies. |
I put the treats in a bottle and it works even better! The rattle is great. :D Thanks for the tip. |
