| Do you take treats on your walks? You can approach this by rewarding the good behavior...dinner (if u feed kibble) can be the treats. I got a treat bag because holding a lead, dealing with a dog and preparing a treat takes more than 2 hands... Treat for good behavior through the walk, then when meeting another dog, stop the barking, you may need to get to his level and turn him, but when he stops, immediately treat. Let him go back to barking and stop again and treat again. You need to stay calm, even if you are frustrated, put your trust in the other dog owner to sort out their dog and just work on yours. Have you tried clicker training? This more immediate praise... Regarding the recall, you maybe could try a whistle.. Just toot the whistle every time you feed so he associates the whistle and food. I haven't succeeded in all of these, just working on them in training class. Good luck, when I learn anything else, I'll post it. |
