Lancaster Bark at the Park - Best SoCA Dog event! Hello, everyone! Mark your calendars... The City of Lancaster's annual Bark at the Park is right around the corner, Saturday, October 6th! Last year, we had a number of YTers attend, we'd like to see even more of you this year! (And, plans are being made for a yorkie meetup, we'll let you know the details soon.) There are endless activities at this event, including a live Auction, Raffles, Contests, Microchipping, Splash Dogs, etc. Be sure to check out our website, www.lancasterbarkatthepark.org , especially the Fashion Parade and Man's Best Friends contests. There is no breed that looks better in clothing than the yorkies, so I'd really like to see one win this year. There is no fee to get into this event, but you will want to bring some cash for all the great vendors and activities. Proceeds from the raffles and auction go to the Lancaster Animal Shelter. Please plan to spend the day. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at KathyBATP@aol.com . Kathy |
Sounds like fun but I'm sure it is too far for me. I don't know where Lancaster is. |
Will the meet-up be the same day as the Bark in the Park? |

There will be a MEET UP AT THE bARK IN THE pARK. (Ooops) I emailed ChattyKat to get more info and she will be posting (I think on the "anyone in the desert" thread) later on today I think. I hope we can get a lot of us to come. Myself included. Lancaster is about an hour away from me.. but we go there all the time.. Hope you can make it. Sonya |
Bark at the Park Hi, all... Yes, we will have a meetup the same day. My sister and I run the raffle booth, so let's meet there at 2:00. Of course, you may stop and say hello anytime during the day. Last year, Latuya (Monica) came with gus... all 3 pounds of him, and a few others. ;) The website is a little hard to navigate, but there is a Pet Parade put on by the Girl Scouts at 11 a.m., with prizes for the cutest Girl Scout Uniform, Peppiest Pooch, and Prettiest Pooch. Then, at 12, there are the man's best friend contests, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each category... best trick, look-a-like, best singing dog, best dressed, and best human barker. Then, at 1, there will be a live auction, with winner's choice of a gorgeous pink or blue stroller, weekend getaways to Miracle Springs Resort Spa in Palm Springs or a Bed & Breakfast in Mendocino, a girl's bike, a year's worth of dog food (maybe a decade's worth for a yorkie!), etc. There are numerous raffles as well, with dog beds, carriers, baskets, etc. :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa This event is held at Lancaster City Park. You can find directions on the website, www.lancaterbarkatthepark.org, or you can email me - KathyBATP@aol.com . Lancaster is located about an hour north of Los Angeles off the 14. For those of you down south, it's well worth the drive. There's something there for everyone. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Hope to see a lot of you YTers there with your furry friends! Kathy |
 aww! i am leaving that day to go visit my mother in Maine, I wont be able to go! |
Sounds like FUN! Thanks for posting this, last year I didn't know about it until after the event. Can I share the information with other Yorkie mom's of another group?? ... |
Bark at the Park Please share the information about this event with anybody that has a dog or just loves dogs! There are numerous activities for bigger dogs. And yes, feel free to invite any other proud yorkie owners to meet up. The more the merrier. My sister and I always say, "Yorkies - you can never have too many". |
As it ends up, I can't go because my son's girlfriend is having a surprise birthday party for him that day. Seems always something come up when I want to go or do something. Next time! |

This sounds like a lot of fun. That was supposed to be the first weekend I wasn't going to have something to do since back in August (yea...I think there was ONE weekend in August when I didn't have any plans), but now I may have to rethink my veggie weekend. Who needs time at home anyway   ?! |

What the heck, bring your brother with you! I bet he'd have a great time. There's lots of entertainment and other things going on all day. |
Would you recommend bringing Sukoshi's stroller to this or is there rough terrain (hills and such) to where walking without a stroller would be easier? I just like to be prepared at all day events b/c she gets tired of walking so easily, and then I have to carry her around the rest of the day   !!! |

It was nice talking with you the other day, Monica. I look forward to seeing you and Gus again, and any other YTers that can make it. And, speaking of strollers, there will be a stroller auctioned off, winner's choice of either pink or blue. There's also a gorgeous dog carrier from Lucys Luxuries for those with exquisite taste... it's made of lambskin, and is soooo soft. It retails for $699, but it will probably go for about half that.. Just thought I'd mention these two things, since they're both perfect for the yorkies. Of course, there are tons of raffle items too - beds, dog jewelry, dog armoire, baskets, etc. etc.. (I know, because I personally solicited all these items, and am storing them at my house.) I don't mean to sound like an advertisement, but I hope you can see my excitement. This event is so much fun! |
Bad news (well...for me anyway). I don't think I'm going to be able to go to Bark at the Park afterall. I'm really bummed, for one, because I pride myself on not saying I'll be somewhere and then flaking out at the last minute, and for two, just because I was really looking forward to going. My husband and I had a couple things come up that we have to get done this weekend, one of which includes making a trip down to San Diego unexpectantly  ...2 hours in the WRONG direction! I'm not positive yet, but if I don't meet y'all at the raffle booth at 2:00, then that's why. I'm so sorry! How many vendors will I be missing out on  ? |
oh oh!!! l'll be able to go! m flight doesnt leave until later that night! its only 40 min away from me, so I will be there. What dogs are allowed? |
Speaking Of Strollers! Quote:
Guess who got a new stroller this weekend? We went to the Bark in the Park which was soooo much fun! Mike (my former Marine BF) bid on the strollers.. The blue one first.. He didn't get that one. So he also bid on the pink one. It was so cute when he walked up to retrieve the pink stroller he paid $200 for wearing his Marine Corps hat. lol. Of course they had to mention to the crowd that it was a Marine who won the pink stroller. lol I couldn't believe he bid $200 but he just said, hey, it's for a good cause (the money went to the shelter) Hope to see more YTers there next year. |
Hope you all have a great time, and get to meet each other. |
Sonya (Sunnie), It was so nice meeting you and your "girls". They looked so cute in the pink stroller and their darling little dresses. (Any chance you'll change your mind on making me one?) My daughter is married to a marine, so I appreciated that they mentioned Mike being a marine, and I had to chuckle later seeing him pushing the girls around in style. What a guy! I'm not sure if I just have radar for yorkies, but it seemed like there were more yorkies than any other breed at the Bark at the Park. I think we need to have another yorkie meetup with the others in the high desert, maybe sometime in the spring. It would be nice to have more time to mingle and get to know others better. Well, it's not too soon to put next year's Bark at the Park on your calendars.... it's always the first Saturday in October. See you there (if not sooner). :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |

It was great meeting you too! I think I could make you one. I will have to check and see if I can get more of that fabric. But I think I can. What size is your's? I kind of just made my own pattern, but I am able to adjust it iuf you send me the measurements you need. Measure base of neck to base of tail, around neck, around chest (biggest part) and measure from the top of one front leg, across the shoulders, to the top of the other leg. I think it would be a great idea to have a high desert meetup. Maybe we can even get some of the so cal group to come on out too! I would be happy to help in any way that I can. Since I retired from my govt job, I am home all day. Of course I still make bears, but I don't have to make them 8 hours a day every day. lol How did the raffle go? I guess I didn't win any of them or I wouyld have heard by now. lol. It really was a lot of fun. Both Mike and I enjoyed it a lot! Sonya PS did you get a chance to see the pics I posted on another thread? Do a search for Bark in the Park and you will find them. I can't believe I didn't take too many pictures. And I agree! There were SO many yorkies there! |

I hope I can attend the next one if it falls during one of our home trips from Alaska. I just love doggie get-togethers. I think Alaska Yorkie and a couple others up there are planning on one next spring since winters are not the time to be driving too far. |
OMG! What a wonderful surprise! It sounds like you had a WONDERFUL weekend with your family!!! Mike, Jack, and Eddie are all fabulous (although I was especially fond of little Jack), so you will LOVE meeting up with them!!! Alaska! Beautiful! |

My husband and I cruised there for our 1-year anniversary in July. What we saw was so wonderful! We cruised the Inside Passage with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Sitka, and we also cruised the Lynn Canal and saw College Fjord and Glacier Bay. It was breathtaking, although I still owe everyone here pictures (especially Mike - Alaska Yorkie ), but I'm a slacker and never got anything uploaded  . I'm still going to though...some day  :p . I can't spreak for you, but I LOVED it, although I can only imagine how cold it gets in the winter, since it was pretty darn chilly in July!!!! |
