A whole lotta shakin'! Earthquake in CA! Did any of you So-Cal people feel that one that happened about 3 minutes ago? That one was a big one! We almost felt the need to do something about it... |
OMG - I hope you guys are all right - I'll have to turn on Fox News to see if they mention it. Keep safe!! Believe it or not we had one here in NE Ohio back in the 80s that really shook the house and that was only a 5.something and that was scary. |

It was centered in Lake Elsinore, 2 miles down. 4.2 on the scale, small by comparison....there was a 2. something or other, didn't feel that one. |

It won't make the news. My husband just got the stats for it. It was only a 4.7. We felt it especially strong here because the epicenter was only 11 miles from us. If it isn't felt in Los Angeles, it doesn't make the news unless someone dies or there is serious damage. |
Glad it wasn't any bigger. It's almost been 18 years since the last big one in nor cal. We forget how bad they can be until we get our reminders. Now is a good time to make sure we have our earthquake supplies ready. |
yikes hope its not a pre curser i hate dem things i was a kid when the big one hit Nor cal and in my familys pool in sacramento and it dumped half the water outta the pool and had me freaked out at least we dont have tornados or hurricanes |

That's why I continue to live in CA. I don't think I could handle tornados or hurricanes. |
If any shaking goes on then I just walk outside and wait it out. I moved here in July of 85 and have only felt a little trimble twice. I wouldn't trade where I live for anyplace else in the US, but I could be talked into moving to Spain or Italy. ;) |
Are you ok? I'll be praying for you and those around you. |
I'd rather take our hurricanes. The thought of being sucked up into the earth scares the heck out of me. I'll never visit California, because I'm afraid I'd bring the big one. LOL |

Same here! At least we have tornado warnings and most of the time are able to get to a safe place. I don't think I would like always wondering when a big one (earthquake) would hit and not have my son near me. |
potential disaster list I have read that there is no "safe" place in the USA from earthquakes, as the Teutonic plates keep shifting ... and it is truly just a matter of time. there will always be natural disasters to deal with and we all learn to deal with our own .... so as CA deals with earthquakes, FL deals with hurricanes, the mid west deals with tornadoes and other areas deal with droughts and forest fires, we all adapt ... if you want to worry... here are the potential disasters in a list ... Aircraft Avalanche Dam Drought Earthquake Epidemic Explosion Fire Flood Hurricane Marine Mine Oil Spill Railroad Submarine Terrorist Attack Tornado Winter Storm will LA become a suburb of San Francisco one day???:embarasse http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/43556 yep, most likely, but will WE be around to see it??? Unlikely!!! so enjoy the "now" and stay safe!!!! and MistyinCa I am glad you are safe .... |

I've lived in tornado country...I'll take earthquakes....I can count on one hand the number of earthquakes I've experienced in my lifetime and most of them were minor. I got tired of getting the dogs and myself to the safe zone on the average of once a week during the tornado zone. Homes and business, freeways are built to withstand most earthquakes. If a tornado hits you, you're out of luck, no matter how much of a warning you get. |

Ok. Felt nothing this morning....but did experience the shaker about a week and a half ago  I have lived in So. Calif my whole life so I'm used to these shakers...Was here during the Olive View/Sylmar Quake in 71...and again for the Northridge Quake believe me.....I honestly do not want to ever go through that again... |
black out Hi Misty, Well, we did not feel the earthquake, but we did have a black out for 4 hours. From like 10 pm to 2 am, now that was FUN....not....lol 1. No air conditioner.....I had to take Buffy a full bath at 11:30 pm, yes the old girl had a candle lite bath....lol The boys I was able to cooled them down with wet towels, they had been swimming earlier and also had take a full bath at the end of the day. 2. No TV......but I remembered I have a small one that runs on batteries, yay. 3. I always have candles and batteries.......so no toes were hurt at any time  but I did have to put a collar with a bell on Keanu (he is still small and his coat is black, he was hard to see in the dark) 4. No internet  4 hours of NO YT.......Now that was harsh :( |

Really? I would think it would make them hot or hotter. I will have to try this, Thanks. Today again the electricity went out while I was out, but I left the kids kinda wet, and wet towel laying around just in case...good thing I did. Well, I hope everyone is well and cool ;) |
I am so glad no one was injured! My good friend from another board lives in SoCal, and she told us about it. She said it wasn't a bad one. |
We didn't feel it either. I'm sick of the heat. The puppies like the fan. Too funny. |

I can top that! We've been on black out now for 41 hours, and still going strong! (yay me! ) I'm at the library posting this. I haven't been able to get online since Sunday evening. I don't think they're going to have it fixed any time soon! |

Have any of you looked at the "attached site"?? I have it bookmarked and I look at it very day! (sometime twice a day!! lol) I grew up in San Diego County and have lived in Northern CA for the last 30 yrs. I have been through some earthquakes! We have a son who lives in "Woodland Hills" so I am watching the LA area carefully. Our daughter lives in Atascadero, CA (near Paso Robles which has frequent earthquakes!) This is a pretty cool web site..... up to the minute of quakes!! http://earthquake.usgs.gov/ Its pretty interesting to see how many quakes there actually are.....even though out the states and the world!! |
I forgot to add: Red square means quake within the last hour. Blue means quake within the last day. Yellow means quake within the last week. I'm sure you would have read that somewhere on the site, but I just wanted to add that! :animal-pa |
