Does anyone know of a good puppy socialization place in Irvine, Ca?

In or around Irvine? I really want Biggie to get out and play with other puppies..he loves other dogs! I'm a full time student, so he spends a loooot of time with me and only me. I think he needs a new group of friends. I don't need a day care service because I'm home for most of the day..I just need a safe place to bring Biggie.. haha.

Thanks!

AH Boo! I just moved out of Irvine in Dec. Are you an Anteater too? :p

How old is your pup? If he has all his vaccinations, and full imunity, you can try the dog park. It's not too far from the UCI campus. Also... if you live near Harvard, and Barranca, there is a park there that a lot of people take their dogs to in the afternoon for a stroll.

Hahah! Zot zot! Does that answer your question? :P

He's 5 1/2 months. He's gotten all his vaccinations and all that. I live near the Albertsons near the ARC! There's a doggie park off Barranca? Cool!

DvlshAngel985 07-28-2010 11:04 PM

No, there's a park on Harvard near Barranca, a regular park, but a lot of people walk their dogs there. I use to live in the condos right before that on Harvard and Costero. The dog park is on Irvine Center Drive, I think. I'll have to look it up to make sure.

Are you a VDC resident? I use to live there in the graduate housing when I first transfered there as an undergrad.

The dog park is called, Central Bark Dog Park. Honestly, if your dog hasn't been socialized to other dogs, don't go there. Wait till he's older. Most dogs are very well behaved, but every once in a while there is one that raises hell. Your baby is better off going when he's a little older, and a little bigger.

I highly recommend the park on Harvard and Barranca for a nice afternoon stroll. If you go after 6 pm, there will be a lot of people walking their dogs. Including some of Kaji's old friends. :) There are 2 brussels griffon, Monkeyin and Biggie Shorty that are hilarious! They loved playing with Kaji and Kaji loved playing with them. They were so gentle and fisky.

They also have an enclosed baseball diamond. If you go mid-week, in the middle of the day, you can get that all to yourself. My friend and I use to meet up there and have the pups off leash playing fetch. They're completely safe in there. I have some pics of them romping around in the baseball field. :) I also have some old vids on my FB page of Kaji having fun at Central Bark.

I was! Actually at Norte..I didn't get to live in VDC ): It's bigger and cheaper! Thanks for the advice! I'll be taking Biggie to that park pretty often now ((:

Ahhh those sound like great places, thanks DvlshAngel985! I'm also an Anteater (Zot Zot!), but will be commuting from home. :(

I don't know what's smarter, living in Irvine, or commuting. I payed $835 for my room alone at VDCN grad housing. It was a really nice apt, but geez it is pricey. But, my commute was short, hop on the shuttle and I was home in 15 mins ready to study. :) Commuting is also a problem because of the time you waste on the freeway. My ex lived right near you, and he always had to time classes around traffic. It cut back on the freedom of choosing his classes.

Hey, Samantha, are you allowed pets now in VDCN?

That's so true! I was looking at prices and figured I'd save some money by commuting but now that I will be starting summer session next week I think of traffic and Miloh. I will miss him so much, I wish I could find an apartment by school or so that wasn't so pricey and allowed pets. I believe the dorms at school only allow cats. :(

DvlshAngel985 07-29-2010 01:04 PM

I thought they didn't allow any kind of pet. People had dogs all the time, but they were all breaking the rules. I should have done the same. ;)

Check craigslist if you're serious about moving out there. You'll probably have to have roommates to make it affordable, which isn't always great.

I would have done the same! haha That's one reason why I wouldn't want to live out there, I can't see myself trusting someone with Miloh as I'm away at school. Thanks though, I'll check the craigslist listings.

DvlshAngel985 07-29-2010 01:40 PM

OH! The most affordable place I ever found was sharing a condo, which was about $650 a month and I had my own space because I rented the loft. There's quite a few of them. Since they are privately owned, not part of the Irvine Company like the rest of Irvine, you can negotiate the price with the owners, you don't need a parking permit for the complex, and the people in that area are really nice. There are so many dog people there. When I moved out in Dec, there were a lot of them that were vacant. The one I lived in went into foreclosure in Feb. Turns out the owner had stopped making his mortgage payments last March. Glad I moved out when I did!

Nope! You're not! But when I lived there last year there was a guy in graduate housing that had a golden retriever.. he was barking every saturday morning! ahaha

Hey I start summer session too!! What year are you? I'm a 3rd year bio major. Maybe I'll see you around and our yorkies can play!!

Places like Parkwest and Columbia court are kiinnnddaaa cheap (if you have a roomie), and they allow yorkies.. except I've heard they're nasty and have roaches everywhere ):

I'm going to be staying in Newport with some pals when school starts, so that'll be good for Biggs.

DvlshAngel985 07-29-2010 05:15 PM

We should re-name this the Anteater thread. :p

My older brother, also an Anteater Alumni, lived in Parkwest, and swears it wasn't a dirty stink hole that people say it is today. I never did get to go see it so I don't know. I wanna move back there SOOO BAD. Kaji loved Bill Barber park. If I take him today he romps and is the happiest little dog in the world. I miss living there.... :(

Move back so Biggie can have a new friend!! Haha my friend lives there now and says it's pretty sucky.. I almost lived there but was able to get a lease at VDCN. (:

I really do like living in Irvine. ((: I miss it when I'm home in San Jose.

DvlshAngel985 07-29-2010 06:35 PM

I just got a job in East LA, I don't think I'll be moving back to my Irvine "hood." :( :( :(

DvlshAngel985 07-29-2010 06:46 PM

I don't mind meeting up with you guys once in while. You can ask e_gar, and she'll tell you Kaji is a very nervous dog. Not when he's in Irvine. :)

SamanthaKim 07-29-2010 06:53 PM

Biggie's a hyper little puppy, but he's been to puppy day care and he loves romping around with other doggies! We definitely should have a little get together and let the doggies play

Ahhh, awesome! What courses are you taking? I'm a transfer student, so 3rd year as well (Criminology major). That'd be nice, finally I will meet someone that has a Yorkie. hahaha That's good though, I spoke to some guy that said him and 7 of his friends were sharing an apartment near UCI. I sure couldn't do that! :p

Right huh? ahahah We should have a meet-up at Bill Barber park, I bet all the babies would love it. Plus, it would bring back memories to Kaji. :)

That's saying it lightly. Kaji got really sick, and I haven't transfered his vet records to a vet around here. He was sad, lethargic, couldn't control his bladder, it was just the most horrible thing. So I took him to the Irvine vet we used, afterward, I took him to the park on the way back. It was like he was cured! He was running around having a blast, and you couldn't tell he was sick. Kaji just loves going to Bill Barber park.

Ezekiel Jute 07-29-2010 10:45 PM

Join OC yorkie meet up group, we meet up about once a month either at central bark or a private facility. Its great meeting everyone and their yorkies! Zeke is a year old and he loves it! We live in tustin so its very convenient for us.

Thanks! I'll def bring Biggie to one of those!!

DvlshAngel985 07-30-2010 11:06 AM

I'm a part of that meetup group too. They helped me get a good deal on Kaji's teeth cleaning. :)

DvlshAngel985 08-21-2010 03:42 PM

Any Anteaters up for a meetup next weekend? Kaji needs to see the vet for a checkup. Yup, you guessed it, I haven't switched him over yet. If I'm making the drive, I thought I might as well let him romp around in the park he loves so much. So what do you all think? Meetup next weekend? :D

It would have to be on Saturday. They are closed Sunday. I'll call them and see when they have appointments available.

Yes! I've been taking Biggie to central bark! It'd be great to have a meet up!
