I bought both of my little sweeties from Sharon Hill, of True Puppy Love, in Bristow, OK. Both of my babies came to me very healthy and full of love. Sharon also is VERY helpful and answers any and all questions I have about my babies. I would, and am, going to buy from her again! TWO THUMBS UP! :D :D :D

Wow, they have a lot of mixed breeds......

That's the first thing I noticed too...

My puppy Rosie is a mix. I think sometimes mixes can be nice because you can get good qualities from two different breeds. Jack is a purebred.

I love ALL dogs, mixed or purebred :) So I hope you didn't take it the wrong way. I was just saying that she seems to have a lot of mixes. Usually when you see lots of different dog breeds from one breeder, it's considered a red flag.

I understand what you meant, and normally I would agree with you. But, in this case her dogs are well taken care of and well loved. I am really happy that I chose this breeder because my two babies are very sweet, extremely healthy, and also absolutely beautiful. Both of them came to me almost 100% potty trained (I had a little more trouble with my boy than with my girl... Rosie had a total of 3 accidents from the day we got her.), well groomed, well fed, and very happy.

I'm glad you had a good experience (and I mean this nicely) - but I wouldn't call her an 'amazing' breeder

An Amazing Breeder will strive to improve the breed - stand behind their lines and always follow breed standards - but it IS nice to see someone (who even while selling designer breeds) :( doesn't have 50 puppies listed for sale.

I just HAD to say this since the trend now is to mix breeds, slap a big price & cute name on them - and sell like there's no tommorrow - it seems this breeder at least has only a few puppies at a time for sale.

It's refreshing to hear good news about a beeder. Usually all we hear is bad news. Congratulations.

She has some adorable puppies, but WOW....over 1,000 for a mixed breed?! What is this world coming to?!

And she charges more for a Morkie than for a full-blood Maltese. ???? I'm not 100% against mixing breeds, if that's what some people like....but to charge MORE for them than for pure-breds, when the results of such breedings are vastly unpredictable, just baffles me. :(

I too am happy you had a good experience. With that said, I must also say,I also feel there are too many breeds and definitely, too many mixed breed puppies for ridiculous prices. The animal shelters are full of "Designer" dogs that need homes and can be adopted for $50.00 or $60.00.

Apologies to the original poster....I neglected to compliment your cute puppies! They look very sweet!

Jack is a maltese (full blooded) and Rosie is the mix (yorkie/bichon)

And, as to there being a lot of mixed breeds in need of adoption, I agree. Yet, there are also a lot of full blooded breeds in need of adoption as well.

I understand the Maltese/Yorkie mix....and the Yorkie/Chi mix....what is the desirability of a yorkie/bichon mix?

(and by the way, because of some of the posts in this thread about mixes, including my own, I want to add that I'm not at all asking this in a sarcastic or contentious way....just wondering, because I haven't heard, what traits one would hope for in mixing those two breeds. Rosie is indeed adorable!)

Thanks for saying she's adorable. And, to be honest... I am a little offended by the posts in this thread about mixes, not this one in particular... but others. I love Rosie... and she IS a mix. And, I have ABSOLUTELY no regrets in getting her. I don't judge others for getting purebreds... or for paying THOUSANDS of dollars for them. So, I think I should get that same respect, and not be judged for having a mix.

Originally, I couldn't decide between a yorkie and a maltese... and I wanted to find a breeder who bred both and knew a lot about both breeds. when I found Sharon, I noticed that she did the yorkie/maltese mixes... so I selected a puppy from the recent litter. But, after explaining what exactly I was looking for in a dog, she told me she thought the yorkie bichon mix would be better for me. Bichons are known for being well tempered, calm, good with kids, and also hypoallergenic. I wanted a very calm puppy... which she definitely was! Rosie is EXTREMELY timid (which can be a burden or a blessing!) Rosie's fur is more like the texture of a bichon, curly; but, her markings are that of a yorkie (she's frequently mistaken for a yorkie when we're out and about, and I also get the question, "Why don't her ears stand up?") I MAINLY got her because at the time I was living with an allergy sufferer and I wanted a puppy that wouldn't bother my roommate (which was the main reason I didn't stick with the yorkie/maltese mix... not hypoallergenic) When I moved back in with my parents, I got Jack... who is NOT hypoallergenic and who causes my ex-roommate to itch her eyes when she's around. :( It's so sad too because she LOVES Jack and he LOVES her.

Anyway, that's my story.

Yorkies and maltese do not shed :) That's so strange that your roommate was allergic to the yorkie/maltese mix but not to the yorkie/bichon.

Darla is a yorkie/bichon mix...I guess the traits of the bichon to me are very desirable...at least Darlas mom was...she is very gentle and easygoing...didnt shed. Bichons are a really nice dog and I would get one in a heartbeat if I wasnt so into yorkies now...I would think it would be about the same to have a yorkie/bichon mix as it would be to have a yorkie/poodle mix...no shedding being a big plus...chihuahua's shed so I dont see the desirability of mixing a yorkie with that breed really...unless you are ok with a shedding dog...which is why most people get yorkies...so they dont shed massive amounts of fur..

Thanks for the answers about the bichon! I didn't know that they were non-shedding/hypoallergenic. I knew that when mixing yorkies with Maltese many people are hoping for the more laidback personality, so that's interesting about the bichon too.

I showed this post to my boyfriend and we're both cracking up at Malteses being laidback! :D I don't know if its just my little boy or if its all Malteses in general but... he's CRAZY!! He's so fun though! :D :p

Your pups are darling and I'm glad you have a great experience:) With that said I don't understand the mix breeding and why people want them and pay the high price tag vs a purebred for the same price. With mixing I don't see how you can ever really know what traits you are going to get. Which parent will throw what trait? With Yorkies I would think people like the coats and with mixing you won't get that type of coat. Can I ask the OP what you didn't like about a purebred Yorkie that would make you buy a mix? I am not putting down mixes at all just really don't understand. I can kind of get the labradoodles because of a medium size dog that might not shed ( not many to choose from) but on the smaller non -shed I don't get it.

Its not that I didn't WANT a purebred yorkie. I just thought the traits of a yorkie-mix were more desireable to what I wanted at the time. What made you want a purebred yorkie? What traits did the yorkie have that were desireable to you?

I wanted a dog that was calm and gentle. Sometimes yorkies can be a little bit high strung. I especially wanted a dog that was good with children as I have a lot of children in my life (I'm a nanny). Not that yorkies AREN'T, but at the time... a mix seemed more desireable to me. To each his (or her) own.

I'm brand new to this forum. I don't own a yorkie, yet, but am considering a mixed breed maltese/yorkie. I am definitely looking into Sharon Hill and Truepuppylove also. I currently have a maltese/bichon mix and I am sold on mixes. I am very allergic to dogs (although not as much as to cats!) and my maltichon has not caused a single problem.

First of all, all dogs shed. Some shed all over the couch and the rug, and everywhere in between. Their fur is hard to vacuum up. Dogs like mine lose their hair, the same way we humans do. It tends to collect with the dust bunnies in the corners and under the couch. The real trick to living with a dog when you have allergies is bathing them. My baby gets a bath about once a week. Being all white it's obvious when he needs one.

My allergy is severe. I don't just get a runny nose and itchy eyes, I get a full-blown asthma attack. I have never even had a tight chest with my maltichon. My allergies are also what prevent me from going to a shelter to find a rescue. Five minutes in there and they would have to call an ambulance. Going to the vet about undoes me.

So, to the OP, how are your babies doing now? I would love to see current pictures.

I know that this is very late but I just wanted to say I bought a morkie from Sharon at truepuppylove and she is the best dog I have ever had. I bought her in 2008 and she is perfect. Anytime someone comes in contact with her they are thoroughly impressed with how great she is. So pinkFashionista, if you still read this, I agree 100% with everything you have said on here

Very very good answer and I totally agree!

We also bought a fantastic maltichon puppy from Sharon Hill at true puppy love. unfortunately he died monday and my whole family is devastated. Her website is down and her phone is disconnected. ANY HELP ON FINDING HER would be appreciated. My kids really need this
