Seaside Yorkies, FL Hey guys, I've had Stanley for a while now but I thought it'd be smart to post about where I got Stanley from just incase there was anyone considering buying from there. When I was puppy searching, I stumbled across a website called Seaside Yorkies and she had only one puppy left, a tiny toy for $950 and that included shipping. I live in Southern California so it was really difficult for me to find one below a thousand dollars. Unfortunately, I didn't come upon YT until AFTER I got Stanley. Monique from Seaside Yorkies told me that he is a tiny toy and shouldn't exceed 5 lbs...I know that I shouldn't blame her for it but Stanley is now at a thriving 10 lbs. I love the little guy w/ all my heart though. He came to me w/ kennel cough and in a tiny crate...not as comfortable looking as they make it sound. He was healthy when i got him though and that's what I was most grateful about. I didn't find out he had kennel cough till a day later. After I received him, Monique completely cut off contact w/ me and never bothered to callt o see how he was doing. I started checking back on her website every few weeks and this is when I started to suspect that she is a Yorkie broker. She had a new litter up on the website every few weeks and advertises the words teacup, which I didn't know at the time was a bad word to use! When I e-mailed her expressing my concern about Stan's kennel cough, she e-mailed me once back and never e-mailed again to ask how he was doing. Sorry this thread is so long, I just wanted to express that I am not angry at her, mainly bc I got a pretty healthy puppy, but I just wanted others to know that she doesn't care for her puppies like I've seen other breeders on this web site do. If you guys want to check out her website, it is www.seasideyorkies.com |
1 Attachment(s) I dont know where my edit button went :(.. Anyway, there is one other thing I forgot to mention. Stanley's ears were taped and Monique said when she was cutting the tape off, she accidentally cut off a chunk of his ear. So when he came to me, a chunk of his ear was missing :(. It was all dried blood took a while to heal. Heres a pic it's on his left ear..I don't know if you can tell. |
Ah, poor boy!! I can see it about half way down. I am glad you still love him even though he is 10 pounds. |
Well, I'm glad you love him for who he is to you now even though he was sold from an unreputable breeder. I actually had her sight bookmarked from a while ago as I was searching. :thumbdown I even contacted her via email, her prices are ridiculous. With those type of prices, if my pup wasn't what she told me, I would take her to court. Or she'd be taking me for my actions afterward. ;) There has to be a way to report people like this for selling these sick puppies and lying to buyers. They are taking our money under false misrepresentation of what they are selling, be it pooch or product. I can't believe she nipped that puppies ear, didn't compensate you on the price, or just do something.:thumbdown We should start a post about how she treated you and send the link to her email so she can read it. Something needs to be done to show these breeders they can't do this to people. |
Omg!!!!!!! OMG...YOU KNOW WHAT??? Before Coco got pregnant, i had been looking for another yorkie. I live here in Miami and im like 35 minutes away from seaside yorkies. Well, i contacted a fellow yorkie talker she sha had a yorkie from seaside. She really discouraged me NOT to buy from Monique if size was important to me. I love yorkies any size, but i prefer the smaller ones....im out alot. Well, she told me the same story....She had bought a "tiny toy".... and her girl grew to 11 POUNDS!!!!! So that really turned me off....and thank god. I did go to her house to visit and see the dogs and let me tell you, ive never seen such a nasty house. The dogs run her house. litterally....so nasty She must have like 60 adult yorkies she breeds in her house, apart from the the pups she has at the time...... |

Thanks for the warning. I live in South Florida and now I know that I should never buy from her. |
Wow that is amazing that you got a 10 lb yorkie instead of what she promised you since she says "we do not guarantee size however we do feel completely sure of our estimations". Guess she better change that statement. The fact is you cant guarantee what any pup will weigh and if she is that certain, then she should refund you your money if she led you to believe it would be 3 lbs. I also like how she makes up her own standard and says the people that will tell you there are no such thing as a teacup are mistaken. Teacups are 4 lbs and under, toys are 4.5 to 6 lb and the standards are 7-9 lbs and these determinations are made after study and trial. Also I love the fact that she requires you to give your pets vitamin supplements or the contract is null and void. Too many red flags for me I think.:thumbdown |

It's really hard when a puppy comes to you already sick - :( :( MY girl Chanel came to me with Coccidia - it was horrible and I almost lost her :( :( I'll NEVER forget how sick she was and the emergency visit in the middle of the night. I've been accused of 'bashing' her breeder by someone for warning others about it. But in my opinion - It IS the breeders fault if a puppy is sold sick & they knowingly do this - there is no excuse.... it can happen to the best of them I know - - but good breeders make sure it doesn't happen over and over. Which is what Chanels breeder does. She now has a disclaimer on her site to cover herself....which tells me she still sells sick puppies. I 've met a few people that got puppies from her & the same thing happened to them :( Chanels breeder denied even knowing what coccidia is when I called her to tell her what the diagnosis was. (she claims to have been breeding over 20 YEARS ?) Denied it and hung up on me. She'd rather have let Chanel die then tell me her puppies could possibly have it. That was the worst of my experience besides how sick Chanel was. :( IF A BREEDER KNOWS their dogs possibly have life threatening parasites - they need to tell people up front so those dogs get treated asap before it gets so bad they almost die. I had counted on my breeder to help me with my new puppy and she wanted nothing to do with me or Chanel once she had my money. |

I think it is important that we warn each other when we come across breeders that do the WRONG thing, a puppy coming to you that has a chunk out of his ear is horrible.. and a crate that is way to small is terrible too! But size is hard to tell, yes we have size charts, but those are aren't always right.. I breed too and its hard to tell what size the puppy will be when full grown. I had one puppy that was big.. he weighed 3lbs at 8 weeks.. I told the owner that he would be around 9 lbs. I keep in touch with the people I sell to, and she just let me know he is 18 months old and weighs in at over 11lbs.. I don't know how this happened, but it did??? Mom was 8 lbs and dad 5.5 lbs.. |

And Trouble, at least you told the customer honestly how big you thought the pup was gonna be. I respect you for your honesty and the fact that you care for your babies and don't leave them to get sick like all the bad breeders that we submit reviews about. |
I just checked out that site and it says little lela (?) is CKC registered - why would an American breeder register their dogs under the Canadian kennel club? |

are contracts important? Can I just say that I am so grateful that I found a reputable breeder near my home town. She was so professional. She presented me with a contract and disclosed all info about the dog's health records. If I had to do it all over again, I would not buy a dog without a contract and guarantee. I am interested in what others think. |

When I was looking for Venus I suppose I got really lucky! As I looked at some of the websites, I couldn't see buying, paying for, and flying a dog I'd never seen personally to me. So I kept looking for local. Thats before I found YT. I finally did find a breeder within an hour of me, close to Pensacola FL. Her puppies all looked happy, healthy and playful. And she was a very healthy girl. Not one problem with her health. But it really could have been disasterous, as I didn't know a lot about picking out healthy yorkie, although I had one already. I've seen so many nightmares on here with puppies, and I certainly agree, we DO need to warn others of bad breeders! Its a must. If I ever want another yorkie, and my breeder has quit breeding, I will buy from a good YT member! This place has taught me so much in the short time I've been here. I couldn't learn this much in all the books about yorkies there are to read! |
aww poor baby! |
Thanks for letting us know. I too was looking at Monique's site but there is just too much negative stuff adding up... |
I don't know what has happened recently, but my MIA came from Seaside(she's about 2.5 now) and everything was just as Monique said. I still get a phone call from Monique about every 6 months or so checking up on her. I know several other Seaside pups are on YT and have been ok as well. You just never know. |
I would bet anything that the CKC she is registering with is the Continental Kennel Club. The reason I say this is that the CKC does not charge a breeder to register a litter. NOTHING! Not a cent. I bet she charges more if she sells a puppy with registration too. |

There is nothing wrong with Stanley but I just don't agree with the way she runs her business. If you read one of the old posts, a YT member had actually visited her and said the conditions at that house are disgusting with dogs running around everywhere. I've only had Stanley for about 9 months. I have not received one phone call or e-mail from her in that time. I'm not mad, I have a healthy baby...but it would've been nice to have someone to guide me when I first got him. I called her quite a few times after he came home and I never got a call back. |
Seaside Yorkies in Miami Florida..bad breeders!!!!! I just put down my little girl this past Thursday. I had purchased her at Seaside Yorkies in Miami Florida last year. She was only 1 year & a month. My baby had a soft palate defect and suffered from recurring infections. Two months after getting her she started with what seemed like respiratory infections, she had antibiotics on and off. She had x-rays and pneumonia several times. I e-mailed and got cold response to take her to the vet she used. I did and the vet referred me to Miami Veterinary Specialists. She was scheduled for an endoscopy. The Dr. discovered that she had a short soft palate defect. The food that she ate would go to her nose and create an infection. Once the infection might clear up it would resurface because the soft palate defect would again cause another infection. The dotor tried an experimental operation to elongate the soft palate using her own mouth tissue. The surgery was not sucessfull and he told us that nothing else could be done for her and she would continue with infections and have a bad quality of whatever life she would have left. My little girl lost weight. She was weighing 3 1/2 pounds before we put her to sleep. It was such a loss for us. My husband cried. I hadn't seen him cry in years. We are devastated and angry that she was sold like that and that she suffered most of her short little life. Please be careful with these breeders. It's a big hearache if youa re an animal lover. |
Are you her daughter who sells the Maltese's???? Quote:
I purchased my yorkie back in Oct. 2006. I am not going to get into how the congenital condition my puppy had gave us no choice but to put her down. Or how badly we have been treated. I surprised that the gallery of past satisfied customers and puppies are the same pictures that have been these over a year at least. Are these are the only clients that are happy? Who knows. Thank GOD that your dog has no problems so far......... may it continue with good health. Also, the problems that ex-clients are having is that after our dogs have health or other problems, Monique and her clan disappear. It's great to hear from a breeder when every is going well, it's when there is a PROBLEM that contact from the breeder is NEEDED. |
Thanks for the head up. I think it's so important for people to let us all know these things. |
The cut in his ear is quite obvious. I'm sorry. Hind sight is 20/20, but if you had come here first, you would have been able to read other threads/posts about people that have had even worse issues than you through Seaside Yorkies. Sorry about your experience.....it's all too common one in our breed. |
