What does it mean when a breeder says
 

I was told from a breeder that her pups are AKC DNA registered. Can you please expalin the DNA portion. Thanks :)

They send off their DNA to have it registered with AKC. It is required of a male if you use him I think 3 times in one year.

oh because this paticular breeder said her dogs are AKC DNA registered, kind of like a sellling point. To put a long story short, I ended up buying a little girl from her this past friday at 9 weeks. She is now ill, she has diarreah and is vomiting. I am keeeping her hydrated until I get her into the vet at 11am. She also told me that she would be sending the papers via mail. Is this normal procedure ?

No you should have gotten the papers when you got the pup unless there was a spay neuter agreement then she would send them when you showed proof your pet was spayed or neutered

That and she released that poor pup way to young. She could be having problems due to stress or she is sick due to something else. Please take her to a vet ASAP if you haven't already.

Yes she did release her way too young. I opened another thread on sick and injured for some help. My baby had diarrhea, and started to vomit foam. I took her to the vet this afternoon, and they did a fecal, and found coccidea. What really made me mad is that she would not even pick up her phone all day yesterday, and when I called her again this morning, she pretty much told me it was my fault. I will never buy a dog, the way I did (ebay classified). Such a bad expeirence. I didn't even see the parents to this pup, she only had an adult yorkie at her home that was gorgeous but not the mama.

I'm sorry to hear your pup is sick. Did you ask the vet how long it takes for a pup to usually show symptoms? If it's more than 4 days, get it in writing and show that to the breeder. Go over your contract too to see what health guarantee you have.

Your so called breeder is just that. Releasing a pup at 9 weeks of age. Only one vaccination, maybe. Just being weaned of her mother. Coccidia is common, brought on by stress. Such as being taken from her mother, moving to a new location. It is a parasite that lays dormant in a mother, but passed on to the pup.

The bright side of this is your so called breeder is responsible for your pups vet fees. Yep! You live in California and there are stringent Lemon Laws. She's responsible for a whole lot more. Sounds more like she's a broker and not the breeder.

That's what I was thinking too, broker. If that is in fact true, then your baby was taken from momma way before you got her. :(

But, I did notice you've been a member here since last June. I'm not being rude, but I'm scolding. It has been enough time for you to have learned how to pick your breeder. Know about contracts, picking a healthy pup, etc. So, a bit of the responsibility lays with you .

that's right. Probably just not really reading anything, and only knowing that she was too young to be brought home, but still did it anyway. Even though it appears the pup was taken from momma way early and sold through a broker is not a reason to purchase that dog since it was already separated from mom. It is even more a reason not to, and not support those kind of people.

You know what Mardelin, you are right. I have been member since June, when I was just searching the breed, as I had never owned a Yorki. Yes this site has been extremely helpful, with all of the support on here, and I am grateful for that.
However I do understand that I made a huge mistake here, and am now paying the price.You live and learn right.Honestly I wish I had the time to be on her 24/7 and research everthing I need to know about the breed, but that's just impossible for me to do so. To tell you the truth, I'm still learning about the website, and how it all works.

I was no way attempting to be rude, but doing a bit of scolding. I do detest unsuspecting newbies taken advantage of by disreputable breeders.

There are what are called stickies at listed in every section. There are a few on how to pick your breeder, your pup. The first rule of thumb is you buy your breeder first, then your pup. If you don't feel comfortable with your breeder, leave. I don't care how cute that pup is, cause all pups are cute. A reputable breeder is one that is there for you 7x24 and stands by their breeding.

But, again let me reiterate, this horrible breeder you bought your pup from is responsible for your pups vet bills and that is per California Law.

I hope once you get this settled you reveal who the breeder was so, that no one else has to go through what you're going through.

I get it.... I plan on calling her in the morning. But I have a feeling she is going to say that she's not responsible, as I left Chole in a crate for a few hours at night, and when I checked on her she had poop everywhere. When I told her that, she flipped out. She said you should not crate her, and what does she have to do for me. Write a whole list on how to take care of a yorkie. She was very rude .

I'm pretty sure this has happened to her before, as she had her friend whom was there at the time of purchase call me, to see what was wrong. I spoke with her, and let her know that I was on my way to the vet. When I said that she said I could come to the breeders or sellers house so they can look at her, and take care of her for a couple of hours if needed. I wansn't about to take any chances, so I said no, and told her I think the vet should look at her. She told me that her friend(breeder/seller) had albon if needed because the vet was going to charge me alot of money for it.
Ugh I really didn't know there were puppy brokers, but the more I think about things, the more it sounds so true. I never did see the parents, and she told me she would send me the AKC registration.

You can just google CA puppy lemon law and a lot of info will come up. I think the consumer affairs site should have info on it.

I didn't know about brokers until I came here too. the more I know now, the more I think my Uni could have come from one too. the lady who I got her from didn't have the mom there, just a picture of her, who she said was at her house. The pups were at her place of business. She owned a company that manufactured and imported doggy strollers, toys, wrought iron beds, etc. We were terribly uninformed but fell in love with her, so we bought her. Things could have gone horribly wrong for us, thank goodness they didn't. The lady didn't have papers with her either, she sent them to me weeks afterwards. It was hard to get her back on the phone too. :(
