This is my first time posting so I do not know if this is exactly where this question belongs but please move it if it will be better somewhere else.

So anyway.. I am looking into buying a yorkie pup and I have found a few kennels but one in particular I don't know anything about and I as wondering if any one knows anything about a place called Grubb Kennels run by Chloe Grubb in Miami, OK. They seem legitimate and say they are family run but that doesn't necessarily mean anything with the world of puppy mills. Please let me know what you guys think or if anyone has got a puppy from them. Thank you!

I am sure you will get replys from more experienced members......but I think that breeder with more than two breeds is usually a red flag. Good luck with your search :)

Sorry I never heard of them. I don't know where you are in NY but there are at least 2 reputable breeders on Long Island. They are listed on the YTC website as suggested breeders. You may want to check there for all available breeders.
Anyway, Good Luck in your search for the perfect little one!!!

Please try to contact a breeder that belongs to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American (YTCA). If they don't have a litter and they know of someone who does - they will direct you to them.

Thank you so much for the offer Lora but I'm going to take the advice of previous posters and look closer to home. I do want to be able to meet the pups before I buy.

Do you know how hard it is to get into that club? First you have to belong to a local club, then you have to be sponsored.

I know nothing of that breeder. But just because someone is a club member does not mean they aren't a reputable breeder. Just wanted to add that;)

One dosn't have to belong to either the YCTA nor the AKC to get information about Yorkies or other breeds and the breeders.

Both sites have very helpful information on dogs and breeders.
AKC has a page for folks to list their registered puppies that they have available,and all kinds of information listed therein. Both sites have a way of looking for breeders by state.

I am sorry that I am not good at posting sites. So unless there is a page on Yorkie Talk somewhere and cj125 has put two good sites on her post , one can always google or do some sort of web search for AKC or YTCA and the information can be looked throuh easily on both sites.

Yes - there's a reason you have to go through all of that. It's a way to try to weed out people who they don't believe will uphold the standards. No it's not perfect - but it's a good start.

No you don't have to belong to a local club to become a member of YTCA. Yes, you do have to have sponsors that have known you for over two years, with one having visited your home. They also have to approve of your breeding practices. You must be in good standing with AKC. Go to the YTCA.org website and read the responsibilities of sponsor ship. And of course one must abide by the code of ethics and conduct.

FYI Local Clubs also require sponsorship and to be accepted by exhisting members with a minimume of 2/3 vote.

But, as you say there are good and bad breeders in every organization, no club is perfect. But, the YTCA does their best to police members. If a member is known to commit an infraction of club and AKC rules, they are dealt with. If they are suspended by AKC they are automatically suspended from YTCA.

You have some great breeders in the tri-state area.....why not pick one that you can visit personally.

Stay away from the classifieds, internet, wholesalers, pet stores and of course puppy mills.

Several red flags on this kennel. Their contract is horrible. Pretty much won't be responsible for anything; mites, ringworm, parvo, nothing. They are administering the first vaccination at 6 weeks of age. They only guarantee the pup for 6 months; Liver Shunt can reveal itself very early or after a year of age.

Another red flag they breed multiple breeds and they ship wee pups at a very young age. One thing that is a big attractant is their very low puppy fees.

I have a question though, what does being a club that is hard to get into have to do with someone directing them to a breeder that belongs to the club?
