T.J.'s Yorkies--Toni Ledbetter Terrible Breeder This woman claims to be an ethical breeder and has most convinced she is however, I know otherwise. Pull up a chair this is gonna take awhile!! In April, my husband and I drove 2000 miles round trip to pick up 2 dogs from Ms. Ledbetter. The first C.J., a little boy who was to be my up and coming stud. C.J's mother died when he was six weeks of "No Abnormal findings" to make a long story short. C.J. when examined by my vet was found to have a heart murmur that has since closed ater 3 months however after receiving documents from Ms. Ledbetters own vet. The littermate was diagnosed on May 22 with GR IV luxating patella which Ms. Ledbetter never mentioned. Upon finding this out I contacted Ms. Ledbetter and informed her she in e-mails claims this little guy is a healthy pup and it is my "choice" not to breed him and she will do nothing. At the same time I purchased a female called Lovely Of New Deal. I had an agreement with Ms. Ledbetter to make payments. I was given the dog, her vaccination record, a picture of her as a young puppy and, a picture of her sire Rock and Gold Turbo of New deal, along with a contract by Ms. Ledbetter Stating the Dam and Sire and I purchased Lovely Of New Deal "Lindy". I paid for her in full June first. In mid July after having to contact Ms. Ledbetter, I received my paperwork. On the certified pedigree from Hungary there was a tattoo number, I checked the number in "Lindy's" ear and it DID NOT match!! She had given me a dog named Heroine of New Deal. Once again Ms. Ledbetter takes no responsibilty for this, I am devistated. This woman clearly does NOT know her dogs for they are in dog runs in a garage and not part of the family as she claims. There is much more however, who has the time!! Beware she is NOT the loving breeder she claims to be. I HAVE ALL DOCUMENTS TO PROVE ALL OF THE ABOVE |
Are these AKC dogs? Report her if they are. How do you know how she raises her dogs? Did you know the garage setup and you still bought the dog? Have you checked lemon laws for the state she lives in? Have you considered filing a small claims lawsuit against her? |
They are AKC dogs and I have sent all documentation to them. The garage has been remodeled with tile flooring, chainlink dog runs along 2 walls, bank kennels for puppies and a grooming area. She hadn't according to her done her afternoon cleaning so I gave her the benefit of the doubt, my mistake. I d not know the lemon laws in her state as it applies to dogs however I will research. She had informed me in an e-mail last week that she turned everything (??) over to her attorney. |
Wow that's terrible. I have no idea how this breeder expects to get out of selling you one dog when you bought another. I hope you get this all worked out in the end to your specifications, however, the stress alone must be horrible. There are so many good breeder's, I am sure stories like this also take it's toll on them as well. I wish you good luck in getting what you paid for in the end. |

I would also suggest you look up small claims for your state. Lemon laws apply to the state the dog is sold in but small claims can be handled in your state and she will have to travel to your state to dispute the claim. |
I sent AKC 17 pages of documents. They really can't do anything except get me the papers for the dog that I have but you are right, at least they know. This is not really about her kennel though I'm sure the teperatures are regulated some how, it's more about the lack of interaction she has with her dogs while claiming they are part of the family. How can you not know your dogs? How can you do this to someone and not take responsibilty. |
Oh I agree with you but I see it day after day..the dogs are family members and guess what the dogs live in another building or out in a field in chicken coops..I have yet to see a backyard breeder really tell the truth on how their dogs are raised....for that fact I have seen AKC breeders do the same thing...it is all about Marketing 101 on how to sell dogs. I can only say that when you go to buy a dog for breeding or as a pet you have to realy do your homework and still you can be fooled. I have been by people I thought were reputable breeders. I have seen breeders (who say they care about their dogs) debark all their dogs and they live in the basement (how much light do you think they get and how much interaction?). I have watched breeders at dog shows that I felt were downright cruel to their dogs...all for their hobby. or their ego's. In the dog world nothing is black or white...lots of different shades. |
She had the girl I purchased for sale on a website, according to Ms. Ledbetter she had sold her to a breeder friend of hers. I ask Ms. Ledbetter if she would send me the dog that I was suppose to have for 2 weeks so I can interact with her and see how she would get along with the rest of they family (my dogs are not in kennels they are part of the family) then I would ship which ever one I chose to the other breeder. Ms. Ledbetter said this was unacceptable. Ms. Ledbetter agreed to refund my money on C.J. and pay me the difference in what I paid for "Lindy" and what she got for her (a price that changed more than once). After not hearing from her I e-mailed her to see if she was going to keep her word and she informed me she wasn't and she turned everything over to her attorney. |
I am so sorry this happened to you! I agree, this lady needs to face up to this mess. Thank you for telling us about this breeder. Hopefully no one else will have a run in with her. Please keep us updated on what happens. |
I had a terrible experience with a breeder before and Ms. Ledbetter knew this and the breeder. We talked several times and she gave me the impression she had the the philosophies about breeding as I did and really made me free secure. She has convinced me now she is nothing but the "used car saleman of yorkies!!" and your are right there are alot of them out there. |

She does have an attorney, her husband (no he doesn't drive a bread truck!!). So I don't think she is bluffing however I was told the guilty need an attorney. I am really hurt by all of this mostly because I fell for all her crap and felt sorry for her. |
Dixie mom know as southerncharm yorkies WOW IS ALL I CAN SAY. First and far most my dogs do not just live in a garage. I have built a $60.000.00 Yorkie palace for them and that is exactly what it is. Yes it does have a garge door on it for the fact we live in a very nice neighbor hood and ourcovenants requires this for later resale. It has a brick structure, large porch with swing, fan and white pillars, heat and air, a air purifier, and humidifier, ceiling fans three of them inside, a large grooming room, washer and drying for i use washable potty pads, very clean, all of my dogs are in long coat and not shaved down, yes i do have runs but they are mopped twice a day anddisinfected, all my moms and puppies are raised in my home (moms) when pregant right after a witnessed breeding, the yorkie palace is 2400sq ft and i have right now 12 yorkies, so it is a very nice facility, and they are not on concreat either, i have tile floor for them. My yorkies are very cared for and loved. Any one is more than welcome to visit my yorkies and see the care and love they do get, if she thought for one minute that my yorkies were not in a top notch place why would she even proceed and leave a reveiw on my web site. With this said Yes i had a litter and the mother died when the puppies were six weeks of age and yes they was a autopsy done and no cause found, i was exstremely devasted and the buyers of my puppies were notified imediatly with the choice to change there mind whaich no one did even Kathryn, cjs owner, AND YES i did have one of the puppies had a bad patella which the buyer of this pup was notified and offered a refund and she was buying him as a pet and she still wanted him, My vet felt that this patella was a cause of injury from birth or injury caused from the mom which is only a guess considering there is no history of bad patella from the brred of the sire and dam, he was very small as also cj was, AND YES CJ had a heart mumor which i was unaware of but Kathryn wanted to pick them up early to fit her own schedule and it was her choice to drive and get him and a younger age for she felt she could do the same care for him as I. She also signed a contract stating she was taking full responsiblity for any medical issue because of him leaving before he was old enough and also big enough. I kept in contact with Kathryn as far as the mumor and the weight and progress of CJ. I also found out after she purchased Lindy and CJ she had a bout of cocedia with one of her dogs while traveling back to Sout Carolina. Could of been caused by stress but who knows. She also claims she only sells to pet homes but yet she has listed on her website different and one who says this why would you buy breeders and want to breed but in the same breath brag about only selling to pet homes when you are a breeder your self. Last but least Lindy, YES I DID PROVIDE THE WRONG PAPER WORK to Kathryn but YES SHE DID BUY THE RIGHT DOG FOR SALE, i admit my mistake and also notified AKC when she brought this to my attention, she inreturn tried to bully me asking for a full refund of cj when she has a healthy male and sent me a email stateing he was all good to go with his mumor closed, I offer her to refund her money and she can send Liny back, or I would Send Tiffany to her and she could send Lindy back to me. This was a honest mistake due to I had got 4 yorkies from Of New Daeal a month apart and put the wrong paper work with the wrong yorkie. I admit what I did was iresponsible and a true honest mistake but All Kathryn wanted was money and more money and keep both yorkies. I tried to work with her, after consulting AKC and telling them the truth from a-z they informed me to send her the right papers and that is all I owe her which i do have the right papers and am sending them to her certified mail. I feel they are always to side to every story and I work very hard and take alot of pride in my program and my puppies I sell and it takes one person to try and tear you down for a honest mistake. Thank you for taking the time to read this and letting me voice my side and any one is more than welcome to call me. And yes I have turned this over to my attorney because of all the threats, her bulling me andthe talk and posting on everything she can find to post. Hope everyone has a good week and once again thakyou for reading. I will be happy to answer any questions toni from TJSYORKIES. |
Dixie mom Also wanted to add I am keeping Tiffany myself, did I have her for sale yes I did, did I have someone who wanted to buy her Yes I did, but she is staying with me. Her price had no reflextion of the issue between Kathryn and my self!! |
Hungarian dogs,Toni Ledbetter,AKC In my honest opinion, I think that before people come in here to Bash in the form of a "review" of the folks they are having problems with, they should wait to "bash" er "review" untill after they have finished their entire dealings with this person/place/business/etc.. Then after everything is finished and you know how things are gonna be,or "played out", then come in here and "give a great review,or bash," etc. Toni has been "bashed/reviewed" in here before for nearly the same thing just last year. The gal giving the bash/reveiw, ended up appologizing to her! I would talk to Susan Dodge of Clover Hill Yorkies, magicgenie on here about how her situation went. While not exactly like yours, her situation may help you learn more about Toni Ledbetter and mixed up papers, dogs. I too almost purchased a Hungarian dog, but, from a person in Va not AR. I belong to another dog group that is on yahoo and was advised to seek AKC information on purchasing a dog from a foreign registry. Also I was warned,(by a person in the dog group who does not own Yorkies) that many of the Hungarian dogs do have medical problems.( I have no personal knowledge of this info, just that a person in a dog group had heard something, so that is just hear say) The AKC person that I emailed was absolutely helpful to me in telling me what to do and where to have a copy of the Hungarian papers sent so that he could research them for me. He said to do this FIRST BEFORE BUYING THE DOG!!! The seller is supposed to pay for this not the buyer! Without going into my story,I am glad I contacted the AKC about this kind of thing, so that I would have some knowledge before hand and not end up with buyers remorse or tricked as I am easily fooled, especially by myself! ;) The little dog was absolutely gorgeous, but I ended up not buying even though he was a great looking little Yorky. I hope that your situation ends up well with you! |
Thank you for stating most of my facts however, C.J was 9 weeks old when I picked him up. The reason you never heard the Murmur was the only time he was at the vet was when he was 3 days old and had his tail and dewclaws done that is from your own vet records! As far as the Coccida, per my own vet records of all the litters I have had I have NEVER had a puppy with as much as a parasite let alone coccida, when this happened I was ask by my vet if I had visited a kennel and I informed him that I had been to your kennel and he advise it was transfered from mine and my husbands shoes. I have on my web-site that I would take into consideration any one who would want to breed my babies all to date have been turn down. There is so much more Toni that you are not saying. My contract states I purchased a dog with the sire of Rock and Gold Turbo of New Deal" did you personally hand me that dog?? No and if you really know your dogs a mistake like that could have never been made. I don't care how much money you spend on your kennel when time with these babies is so much more importatant also you have high school kids taking care of them NOT YOU that information came from YOU. I take great pride in my dogs and the fact that I sell happy healthy babies. My babies do eat and sleep with me because that is what they deserve. What you have done is wrong an you need to take responsibilty for it. |
Thank you for your in put. I have contacted and spoke to others with a similar situation I also tries to resolve this with Ms. Ledbetter and as I stated in other threads she refused. I purchased these babies in April I have no papers on either one. Ms. Ledbetter is not willing to resolve this between the two of us as I stated earlier she advised me she had turned everything over to her lawyer. |
One again i write in my behalf reference Southerncharm yorkies Kathryn Roberts, you knew when you pick CJ up for your own concience that he was not checked before you picked him up, as far as any cocedia, you stayed in a trailer camp grounds that allowws dogs and you your self let your dogs out there where other dogs have been, i have never had do not have any type of parasites with any of my yorkies, yes i do have a high scholl girl for the summer with me helping me but she does not clean nor does she care for my dogs she helps me with brushing and bathing only, I feel it is ok to have help when needed, I have never had one complaint about any of my litters now any one buying from me about my puppies. You your self took another puppie back to Celia Miller of Northbrook yorkies and charged her $175.00 to bring her puppy one hundred miles out of your way and she supposbly is your friend and you say its not about money, why would you charge a friend when you are so close. Any one is more than welcome to call Celia Miller for she has the litter mate to CJ and also another male from a different breeding and she was also totally aware of the risk getting her puppy early and kept informed the whole time since birth. Feel free to contact her reference the care and the the loving healthy puppies she has recieved at northbrookyorkies@charter.net per celia Miller CJ was picked up at nine weeks and you took full medical responsibility for him and it was not cj nor lindy that had the parasite it was one of your own you owned, I spend my days and evenings with my yorkies loving them and playing, and caring for them and it is like i said I have had many people visit my home and my so called kennel and it is exstremely clean, my yorkies are very loved and cared for. Once again I have tried to make it right with her and nothing seems to please her, she wants refund and keep the both yorkies. |
Bashing vs Reveiwing This is a "REVIEW Forum" not a place to argue. This is all you are doing, bringing more accusations, which may or may not be true. I think you both should resolve this in the Real world and not this forum. It is a waist of time in here for a she said she said kind of thing. When you two have resolved your problems, then come in here and have your say. I personally am not going to read anymore of these kind of threads. Only a true review. |
Toni, the only thing I am going to say to all of this is, as a retired law enforcement officer I have know what it take to prove a case and I will provide all documentation to anyone asking and as a person who lives with cancer, I WILL NOT LIE. C.J.s condition has nothing to do with how young he was, it is GENETIC!! As far as Lindy, You gave me the wrong DOG not the wrong paperwork!! I came on here to tell of my experience with you. You have NOT come up with ANY solutions to this I came up with 3 and you have shot them all down. You are NOT the breeder you say you are and others need to know this! If anyone would lie to know the REAL truth PM me I am done. You are as I say unethical and as I told you on the phone you need to have integrity. |

I am sorry for coming on here and talking personnel business for I do not do this, but i felt the need to also defend myself againt the accuations this person is putting on a public forum which is suppose to be used to help one another with problems with there yorkies and share wonderful experience with there yorkies, i apologize for any discomfort on yorkie talk. As I have stated previous I would be more than happy to answer question in a personel email or your welcome to call me not on this. Kind Regards Toni |
yes this is a review forum BUT the breeder being reviewed has a right to answer any chares as per rules. |
Admin, please close thread so we can move on--- The breeders are at an impasse and need to hammer this out in private. As someone who previously posted things about Toni that I wish I hadn't, I hope people coming across this thread as part of their due diligence checking out a breeder will want to ask more questions of the parties, privately. Sorry to intrude, but I feel silly apologizing a year later for getting all jumpy about paperwork. Best wishes to all. Susan cloverhillpups.com |
You can not believe someone who sends you the wrong dog!! I wasnt going to post what I know about this certain person but I think others have the right to know who doesnt tell the truth and isnt as honest and reputable breeder as someone makes you believe they are.. well I was one of those believers once ago but soon learned quit fast about Tony, Tony told me that all her puppies from Charmer were only placed with contracts and were only placed in pet homes...she swore up and down to me that this was the truth...I knew better deep down she was not telling me the truth as I had seen other puppies from her with other breeders... plus hear Iam seeing the truth right here in front of my eyes....well since her and I know longer have any more buisness dealings between us I have since found out that most of all her puppies are placed with open Registration and she does not place with spay/nueter aggrements like she had promised me........she will tell you what you want to hear but behind your back she is doing what ever she can to make a extra doller and doesnt care what others do with these Puppies or what homes they go into. |
Someone has to let others know There have been many out there who have had negative experiences with Ms. Ledbetter I am finding, but are not willing to be bashed by others by posting. I did not come here to be bashed I came here to let people know what has happen to me in regards to this breeder so she can't do it to them. Toni gave me the wrong dog NOT the wrong papers, the Tattoo number in the ear of the little girl in my pocession does NOT match the certified pedigree I have from Hungary. I signed Toni's contract for a certain breeding I did NOT get that and the fact she says it's the dog she intended to sell just goes to prove she is not hands on and does NOT know her dogs and as far as the little male C.J. she sold him to be for breeding as her contract states due to his health I can not breed him. Ms. Ledbetter led me to believe he had been to the vet and he had not since having tails and dew claws removed, with the passing of this little guys mother and her insistance that she is a hands on, ethical breeder I believed her just as many of you have and she has proven to be a liar. I'm sure some of you have had ok experiences with Toni but understand there are alot of us that haven't. |
I'm sorry but this just irks me to no end. I hate it when I hear of breeders that say they love their dogs yet they live in a kennel. But then they say "oh but I bring them in when they have puppies" course they do..don't want to lose their bread and butter.. Show me a breeder that really does keep their dogs inside at all times and that to me is a breeder that trully does care and love their dogs.. |
