Now I'm worried I bought a 9wk old boy from FancyPups.com and have since read all of the reviews, etc about them. I did take my boy to our vet the next day and was told that he looked fine. Our vet opted to give him his shots - even though Jimmie had given me his "shot record" - the vet said that because they didn't use the "stickers" and it just looked like a word document it was better to be safe rather than sorry. But now I'm concerned - he seems fine and he is really coming into his personality. We took him out to my dad's on saturday and he had a great tiem...he ran and ran and played and played outside (my dad has a much bigger place than we do) and then on Sunday we took him over to my mom's so he did quite a bit of traveling this weekend. He went to bed VERY early last night and slept most of the night (totally unusual for him) and today he is playing in small bursts and eating in small bursts, but just doesnt seem like himself...should I be worried or is he still trying to catch up from all of his travels from this weekend? |
In reply to "mocanady"... Well, first off Yorkie pups should be kept with their Mom's at least for 12-14 weeks (in case you didn't know;)) and any pup at 9 weeks should not be out running around (especially outdoors) until they have had all of their puppy shots. Your pup was probably overstimulated and is suffering the consequences. Make sure he is eating, drinking, peeing & pooping...pups this young can easily fade...keep nutrical on hand for low blood sugar! |

IDK if you've got a healthy pup or not, as some problems don't surface immediately, i.e. liver shunt. Hopefully, here in a few months you'll be taking him in to be neutered and can have some blood work done that may be indicative of any health problems like liver shunts. As long as he is acting healthy, eating, drinking, playing, growing, etc., I wouldn't be too worried. If he is not healthy acting, take him in now for further testing. |
I hope this helps potential buyers.....when you get a puppy they should come with a litter registration paperwork with the name of the breeder on them, if the name doesn't match the seller it's a huge red flag that this could be a broker. |
I've been wanting to get a Yorkie for years and now I finally have the chance. My boyfriend wants to buy me one as a Christmas gift. I talked to Jon last night and placed a $200 deposit on one of the puppies and we are going Monday to see him. I don't know why I decided to google the Rascoes but this website came up and now I've read so many horrible stories and feel so disappointed and sad. I really want a Yorkie but not if it's coming from dishonest people who don't even know the history of the puppy. Where else in the Houston area can I buy a Yorkie puppy?? |
I'm not sure where to buy a yorkie in Houston, but you might want to check ads in the paper and make sure you can see the parents and that the puppy is not from a mill. I've spent thousands of dollars on my FancyPups pup due to medical problems. I highly recommend that you do not buy from them and you get your deposit back however, if you must buy from them have a vet set up right after you buy it and have blood work done immediately to make sure it doesn't have liver issues. My dog also had leg issues, so have them check the legs too. I didn't find out that my dog had medical issues until I had blood work done which was too late. I think they only give you a day or so for check ups. Unless you want to spend thousands on medical, have blood work done asap and be prepared to return the pup or find a reputable breeder and make sure you meet the puppies parents and check their medical records. No puppy parents= puppy mill or puppy broker. Good luck! Hope you find a healthy happy pup :) |
Thank you jfaunt! I have never had a dog before so your suggestions help a lot. I am going to check out the puppy on Monday and follow your advice on the blood work if we do decide to buy him. |
You're welcome. I was just like you, with no dog experience so I'm happy I could help! I wish I would have done my research like your doing but luckily my pup is doing well after surgery, special diet and medication. Wish you all the best :) |
Oh, a quick question jfaunt. How early will the blood work be available to find out if the puppy has any problems? Since they only give me 48 business hours to return the puppy if he/she does not check out with the vet I was wondering if the blood work is a fast process? |
IMHO, If you could get your deposit back (what with not seeing the pup yet) that would be my advise- and call the local breed club to ask for referrals to good breeders in your area... many conditions do not show up for years, so even if the initial check goes ok, what about next year? You would have no comeback from a breeder such as this (I imagine) where as any reputable breeder will be there for support for the lifetime of you dog... I cannot remember the prices of these pups, (and am on my phone so can't really check) but I'd imagine that if you did have to lose you deposit, it would likely work out the cheapest option in the long run... As jfaunt has pointed out. Jfaunt- so glad your baby is doing so much better now! I believe we have a fair few members in your area- if you do a member search I'm sure some of them would be more than happy to refer you to their breeders- depending on the outcome of their pups ofcourse! Wish you all the best in your search/purchase! |
Do NOT buy a puppy from these people!!! I bought my Lola from them in 2008 and did not know she had liver problems until she was a year old. I then found out she had LP in both back legs when I flew her from Texas to Tennessee to have her liver shunt surgery done. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars getting Lola "healthy"....she will always have MVP and no telling what is to come. Why buy a puppy form a broker when you know it??? I had no idea when I bought Lola from the Roscoe's. I was led to believe they were the breeders. Please, please, please save yourself the heartache and money by buying from a reputable breeder. It's no more expensive - FancyPups is not cheap...it's just a terrible, terrible way to get a puppy. I would, and have done anything for my sweet Lola, but she also has some socialization issues that my others don't have from being a "mill puppy" and not being properly socialized while a tiny baby. I just can not stress upon you enough that it is a huge mistake to buy from these people. I tried to contact them when I found out about Lola's problems and they would not call me back. Please take just a little more time to find a puppy that has been properly socialized and whose parents you know something about! Good luck! |

I agree 100% with Lolasmom! We've both had the same problems and we don't want you to endure what we have. Our blood test was done in TN and it cost $250 which would be a lot of money for you to spend to find out if you were lucky enough to get a healthy dog. Don't do it, get a refund and find a reputable breeder. Way too risky. |
Thank you! I took your advice and got my deposit back. I actually did find a great breeder Yorkie Puppies for Sale | Teacup Yorkies | Yorkie Puppies I have already spoken to her over the phone and we are setting up so I can get my puppy after he's 12 weeks in January :) |

RUN, don't walk from Fancy Pups. Buster now has $10,000 legs, give or take, and still does not walk properly and he has many socialization issues. Maggie came from Facy Pups as well, she also has some issues. One of my neighbors was given a Yorkie that came from Fancy Pups, he is very tiny. I worry about all of the puppies the Rascoes sell. What they are doing should be illegal. |
They have puppies on their site now...most are only 9 weeks old. I just can't imagine wanting to make "Christmas money" so badly that you would take these babies away from their mamas and litter mates just to make a Christmas sale. I think it's disgusting and I agree, should be illegal! |

FOR CLAUDIA!!!!!! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...son-smith.html Hi, my name is Gina and as a journalist/writer am researching teacup puppy brokers, but we're taking it a little further than just research, we is Let's Adopt! Global, an international internet community of animal rescue workers, advocates for animal welfare and such. I have posted a couple of times in here and every time I'm looking into a broker or breeder, I end up in here because they're discussed or talked about :D which often provides either new information or a new angle to explore. We also work with Deborah Howard from C.A.P.S. From various sources, I have learned there is no teacup "breed". So it can't be an AKC Teacup breed either! If you check the Pedigree page of that breeder, there isn't any relevant info. This is exactly the thing C.A.P.S. and other concerned animal friends worry about. Uneducated an unexperienced customers go shopping for a companion animal and have no idea what they are doing. This forum had many knowledgeable people in it who can tell whether a breeder is a breeder, or a broker. I noticed, Claudia, you buy on impulse because you want one for Christmas..... we're complete strangers, but this is precisely how you should NOT buy a pet, because you're going to buy a living being who will Truffles Female TEACUP Yorkie For sale From Ajjls Yorkies November 24th, 2010.mp4 | Teacup Yorkshires why another website ....... and she also sells Maltese........... now it's Massachusetts? Wasn't she in Delaware, Ohio? AJJLS Yorkies and another one.............. and here are the Maltese Maltese Puppies Ohio Sale Maltese Breeder Ohio AKC Maltese Puppies TeaCup puppies Yorkie Puppies For Sale Am not saying this isn't a legitimate breeder (she also runs a boutique) About Us | Audacious Pet Boutique and i am moving this one up: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...son-smith.html Before you buy a dog, do some thorough research first, you're not buying a dress, or a tv set, or a new bicycle.. you're buying a LIVING BEING, not a living doll either ... They have more websites. Personally, if you're a breeder in it to preserve and enhance the breed, why is it necessary to have so many websites??? If you're a reputable breeder, people will find you if you have only 1. Anyway, it's up to you, Claudia, I am a newbie in this forum, but by now an experienced researcher into these matters... You can maybe keep us posted, you can send me an email at friendsforlife2020@gmail.com Good luck with finding a Yorkie... But please wait some and ask the more experienced Yorkie people in here? They know all or a lot about the breed and whether you're buying a healthy pup for a normal price. And also, please educate yourself properly about everything there is to learn when becoming a pet owner... |
WOW! Interesting .... brings this song to mind: I would say run, don't walk, away from that breeder. |

Thank goodness for this site. I am looking for a Yorkie. I have been reading this web site and have learned a lot. I was considering Fancypups, as they are here in Houston. But after what has been said I am running for the hills. I have located two other breeders, and are wondering if anyone has come across them. The first one is Kimberliskuties.com and the other is lloversyorkies.com. If any of you have any experience with either could you maybe pass it along. Thank you again for all of the info that you have posted. |
My suggestion is to go to the YTCA website and start there in looking for a breeder. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America |

Holy Crap Buster came from Fancy Pups  when we called we wanted a girl at $600.00 and they agreed to hold her but by the time we went to pick her up she was gone. we were told the other couple that showed up before us they thought we were them  hubby was pretty pissed for the drive out there and then for that to happen, anyway Buster came running out from the other room they said we could have him at $1000.00 normally 1200.00 I thought my husband would have broke the door as he slammed it on the way out the door long story short we left with Buster. |
