Millionaire Mutts, Las Vegas We bought a puppy from this store last summer. We immediately made him a part of our family, a big brother to our 4 year old yorkie. Within 2 weeks he died of Renal Failure (University of Colorado necropsy). Please be aware of this store, they treated me horribly through the ordeal. I paid $7,000 on vet bills to save him, they accused me of negligence. The manager (daughter of owner) actually told me, "I know if I kept him, he'd still be alive" No one should have to go through that kind of verbal abuse. We paid $3,000 for the puppy, $7,000 for vet bills |
I'm very sorry for your loss and heartache but you have learned a big lesson that can help others. DO NOT buy animals from pet stores!! They are from puppy mills and generally are not in good health. Until we all resist the urge to buy that cute puppy in the window, there will continue to be breeder animals suffering in tiny cages and puppies dying unnecessarily. I hope you find a new baby to love from a reputable breeder and have a long happy life together. |
Yeah, I put that in my first post....but it didn't show up, so I shortened my story. Since I was little my Mom told me to NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store, but I went against my better judgement because I fell in love with the little guy. My two other yorkies are from breeders. |

So sorry for the loss of your poor Baby !!! :( |
Thanks for the kind words! My avatar is the picture of our baby from a reputable breeder. We waited as long as possible, but I was in 'mommy mode' and never really healed until we got "Baron". He's been a little angel and helped us heal. :animal-pa |

I don't know what to say to make you feel better right now .... again I am so sorry about the :aimeeyork Your Avatar pic is really cute ..... ;) .... Baron sure is a STUD !!! |
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my 7 month old Dixie to congenital renal failure after having her 5 short weeks. I know how fast they go down hill. Fortunately I got her from a reputible breeder and she gave me Roxie my now 9 month old. So while no one can gurantee 100% the health of a puppy, how they deal with it is what makes the difference. |

Sorry about your loss and all the money you spent and happy that you learned your lesson and are spreading the word! Your new puppy is just adorable!! |
So sorry for your loss. Did you sign a contract? I would report them to as many places possibly and spread the word. |
Did you make the payment for the dog on a credit card?? If so, please notify the credit card company to have this charge reversed. I am sorry for your loss. This is the ultimate explanation of why no one should buy a puppy from a store. |
Wow, you are SO wrong! I can't believe you are slandering that wonderful store, Millionaire Mutts!!! The whole point of that store's opening was to NOT buy from puppy mills, and to try to put the other sub-standard pet stores out of business!! I have bought my 3 adorable puppies from them, and they have been wonderful---even when one had some medical issues. (Which is SO normal with toy-size puppies like ours!) I'm sorry you lost your little guy, but the store DOES insure all their puppies, and if you have real proof that they were at fault, they would totally take care of you! |
Look I'm not here to fight. I had a horrible experience, racked up $7,000 in vet bills and was treated horribly through the ordeal. And from what all the vets explained, they never should have sold me that puppy (being force fed because he refused to eat) I'm just not going hire a lawyer to fight for $3,000 (all that Nevada law requires) when I'll spend that on lawyers fees and I spent $10,000 total. And for some people (like me) it's not about getting the money back, it's about not wanting any other puppies or people to go through this type of ordeal. It was an emotionally draining experience; I gained 15 lbs. and had to drop that semester of college because this all happened the beginning of my semester and I missed the first couple weeks of classes. I'm really glad that your little guys are healthy and I hope that they continue to grow into happy, healthy, yorkies. |
I just think it's wrong... Posting your opinions here is one thing, but creating a whole website to try to "close them down"???? I mean, it sounds like you just didn't have a strong enough legal case, truthfully. Again, I have found the store to be knowledgeable and great---and VERY different from how you are portraying them. There was even a positive article about them in a local magazine: 04/10/2007 - Passion for puppies prompts partners - VIEW NEWS: A Neighborhood Newspaper |
Thanks for warning everyone about this store. Your experience sounds heartbreaking! I'm so sorry for what your family went through. I'm sure if this store really is what it says it is (as a poster from Las Vegas says) - then they'll be happy to send a check your way in short order for their "insured" puppy. Glad you found YT. :) |
I am a very fair person, but I have been waiting around a long time. I have decided to mail them the necropsy results again and give them another chance to try to do the right thing. I think that's fair, I will also post on here if they do the right thing. Funny when people bring up "legal case", I'm not wasting all that time and money because even if I won I'd end up with nothing if I had to take it to court. |
Puppy Report I haven't heard anything yet, (just more of her friends on myspace telling me I killed Bennigan.) I just got this puppy report done and it looks like Bennigan's mom had another sick puppy (sold out of a pet shop in Boca Raton, FL) Here's a link to the report. (My story is the one on top) http://www.petshoppuppies.com/report.asp?ID=73A1893 |
Good for you.I've never heard of this place, but your right they should have never sold you this pup. It's all about money $$$$$$$$:( |
I'm sorry but no reputable breeder would ever sell their pups through a petstore. No person who loves dogs would sell a defensless puppy to anyone of the street with a checkbook or credit card. They would interview the person first. Most pet stores claim that they don't get their puppies from mills and it's a flat out lie. They only time they don't get them from a mill is when a backyard breeder is too lazy to sell a litter themselves. I believe you did all you could for this pup. If she honestly believes you killed the pup, then she is partially responsible b/c she sold it too you. How much time did she spend educating you about puppy care? None, I bet. I'm so sorry you lost your baby and I'm sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way. Hopefully someone else will read this and realize that you should never buy a pup from a petstore. |
I have sent them the necropsy, it looks like they are back here to stir up trouble. Here is a link of Bennigan's puppy report; there were complaints about his mother's health before he was even born! http://www.petshoppuppies.com/report.asp?ID=73A1893 |
Sorry for your loss! Having a puppy die after being with you for two weeks must be heart-breaking!!!! Just a question, how long would a disease like the one your puppy had take to cause such a horrible outcome if left untreated? Sorry if my question seems cold and mean, but maybe an answer to a question like that could help explain it a bit more. |

I hope that answered your question, some of these things progress really quickly. |
My Dixie had congenital renal failure so her kidney's never developed normally. I got her at 6 months and she was fine, she was very thin and not a big eater but I first noticed about 2 weeks after I got her that her urine had no odor and no color. It started to bother me so I took her in for a urine test and it came back bad so they did bloodwork and called me an hour later saying her kidney's were failing and there was nothing they could do. I took her to a nephrologist and he said he could help her. After 1 week and 1900.00 she had to be out to sleep. Dixie went from normal to terminal in one week. She stopped eating, had terrible breath, which was uremic posioning and couldn't stay awake. The specialist said that when the kidney's fail they can go from normal to terrible in a very short time. So Dixie was with me 5 weeks and even though she had the disease from birth she was ok for 7 months and then had to be put to sleep. I know how devastating it is to loose such a young puppy and see them so sick and nothing you can do. |

I got my Yorkie at a pet store too. They were very nice, knowledgeable about care, and I have a healthy, wonderful pup. BUT...I've since learned about pet stores, and would never recommend the one I got my pup from. Nor would I recommend any other one. Not to mention they are way over priced! I could have gotten a show prospect from a reputable breeder for what I paid for Baby. I even remember they had a sign that says they don't get their pups from mills. Well, they twisted the truth. They got my Baby from Lambriar Kennels. Technically, they are not a breeding mill, but a place to house pups. But where did Lambriar get my Baby? At a freaking mill! I researched her "greeder" and they were sited for some nasty crap and too many dogs at their place. I hate to think what Baby's mom, dad, siblings, and family have to live in. |

Too bad to hear, but you not right. They sell EARLIER that 8 weeks... At 8 weeks they in pet stores for sale already. Brokers pick them up from puppy mills at age 6 weeks sometimes. Add delivery time to a pet store. Track comes from MW (Missoury, etc) to a local pet stores in two weeks or so. This is why some pups are dead in the end. Just imagine....:(:(:( Too sad..... |

There is a pet store in FL Wizard of Claws that has a very scandal reputation. There is a site stopWizardofClaws, but for some reason is not working right now. When I saw that web last time, they have GREAT DETAIL information how pet stores get their puppies. Including wholesale prices, etc.... Just keep eye on that web, or try to do google search re this name/subject, you will find a lot very interesting information.... |
