Diva is finally in labor....Day 61...she's been contracting and is already started pushing....When I got home this evening she was under my bed...I took her out for our normal walk around the neighborhood and she didn't want to go..she only ran to the side of the house, used the bathroom, then ran right back to the door, in the house she ran and back under my bed...I then took her and put her in her whelping box where I noticed her stomach looked really tight and felt really tight..that's when I realized...it was a contraction....FINALLY IT"S TIME!!:D...she then just curled up in a little ball...minutes later I saw her straining(pushing)..she did that a couple of times...she that a couple of times...then rests...she shakes sometimes so I'm hoping that's normal...anyway, gave her some ice cream(I hope that's okay)...WE'RE OFFICIALLY ON BABY WATCH!! :eek: I will keep you posted!!!

Thanks for the well wishes and support...she keeps making a squealing sound when she's pushing....the xrays last week only showed 1 baby....how long should it take?? She keeps pushing but I see nothing...I feel bad for her...trying to stay calm..I've been taking a wet paper towel and rubbing her head with it..is that okay??? okay...she threw up a little of the ice cream so I'd better not do that anymore...I got her some water instead....uh oh...she's pushing again..I'll be back....

She still hasn't broken the umbilical cord yet....what do I do?? how long do I give her to do it herself?? Please help!!

Congratulations Yolanda and Diva. I just got off the phone with her (Yolanda), I know what sex the puppy is, but I'll let Yolanda tell you herself.
I am so happy that it's finally here and all went well. Good job Yolanda and Diva!

GIRL!!!!!!!!!!! :aimeeyork Phew...what an experience!!! Diva finally got the cord severed..I thought that rubbery thing would never cut through....Placenta's all accounted for..Puppy latched on with no problem...eating well, made noise & has had a poo(i'm sure a pee too but I can't tell with all the wetness on the sheets!!! I am soooo happy & proud of Diva...she was a wonderful 1st time mom!!! She is still trying to eat at the puppy's remaining umbilical cord ....should I let her do that?

Thanks to Rose for being a wonderful partner in this journey of being 1st timers...and Susan..thanks so much for your quick response via PM..I appreciate you being there to help.... YT is a wonderful place to be a part of!!!

Dont let her eat any of the cord that is still attached..or at least I wouldnt think so..but it is normal for her to eat the placenta!!

Eating at the cord that left on the baby? If she's just licking around it then I'd say she's just still grooming the baby and/or making her pee or poo. Just be sure that she does NOT bite or chew at that area. We don't want her to chew it too close to the belly.

Be sure it is tied and cut neatly (not too short). If you have some iodine, you should apply that to it to help it to dry quicker. Coming home after baby, I use to use alcohol to help my boys dry up so in a pinch I'm sure that would work. As long as it as fleshy they may bother it. If she continues to, she may open the puppy open up.

Okay. I think she's just licking at the umbilical cord..anyway...she's 5 1/2 healthy ozs!! I could only get a quick pic of her because Diva was going crazy so I'm going to let them finish bonding. I will get a better pic of her later or tomorrow!! I'm so happy! :D
