#7 is so weak He just isn't strong. its 1:40 in the am and I just tried to give him some formula...he seems so weak to me. I hope we make it through the night! |
we lost our little #7 We lost #7 around 4:30 in the am. He tried to hold on. We all feel so sad today! Momma is eat well and is focused on the remaining 6. The vet called me today to check on everyone! Aside from our loss he said everyone else sounds like they are doing great. Molly is doing everything just as she should. Thanks again for all of your input! |

puppy update I wanted to give you all a puppy update! I have been very busy with these little guys as you can imagine. This is day 10 for us and everyone seems to be doing well. I have been supplementing this one little boy that we call Little Bit. He went from 4 oz down to 3 1/2 oz. I just couldn't stand the thought of loosing another little guy. I weighed him today and he is back up to his original 4 oz. His brother, however, went from 5 oz at birth to 12 oz. Is that normal? The only little girl we have went from 4 oz to 7 1/2 0z. Then our other 3 boys went from an average of 4 oz to 9 oz. I'm not sure if this is normal weight gain or not but when they all are nestled up to mom, Little bit really stands out. I had their dew claws and tails done on the 17th and the vet said that all the puppies looked great and Little Bit had good energy he just needed to be supplemented because the others push him off. I can't believe how attached my husband has become to these little guys. I knew I would but he suprises me. Anyway when you supplement your little guys what have you had the best luck using? what type of milk replacer? and do you use a bottle, syringe or tube feed? and at what temp. do you serve it? All the advice you guys can give is greatly appreciated! |
Their weight gain sounds good, should double in a week. I supplemented my little maltese (2 oz.) with Esbilac, 1 cc per oz. of body weight. I warmed it and let him suck it out of an eyedropper. The bottles flooded him. If you have the time I would recommend putting him on mom alone every hour. Their weight gain is so much faster with moms milk. Aspiration of the supplement is dangerous for these little guys. If mine had been able to nurse I definitely would have put him on her very often. Good luck. |
