Puppy mill, what can I do? We got our little Tina from a woman in Missouri just under two years ago. When my boyfriend went to pick her up, he saw (and took pictures of) about 100 yorkies and other small breeds in small chicken wire cages in a barn. When we had paid for Tina, we kept trying to contact the breeder about when we could pick her up, she avoided us for almost a week! He finally drove out there to pick her up, and she still didn't want to give up our dog! She finally let go, but she was really rude. So, once we brought our little girl home, she disappeared off the face of the 'net! I haven't been able to locate her online for over a year, but today, I tried again and ran across her website. She has over 10 females and five males that she breeds listed on her site, and WHO KNOWS how many more that she doesn't show online. Anyway, our dog has had SEVERAL genetic problems, and hasn't ever been in good health because she was such a runt, but I'd NEVER return her to the conditions she came from! So, what can I do about shutting her down? I never really realized what horrible conditions she was raised in until I saw posts on here of other puppy mills, and I thought, that looks exactly like where she came from!!! I guess my question is, what can someone do about a puppy mill that they know exists? I've got her address, website, and phone number. Would the ASPCA go out there if we reported poor living conditions? I know that in some cities and states it is illegal to own that many dogs. Well, anyway, here is the link to her site. Let me know what y'all think about it! http://www.yorkiesrus.bizland.com/index.html And Cheryl Nims, if you are on YT, I want you to know that what you are doing is WRONG!!! |
Call me crazy but all those pictures looked fake (like photoshop or something). I would call the ASPCA, PETA and any other animal rights organization I could think of, but I don't know if you'll get any help. Getting the word out about her on this forum is a good start though. Its heartbreaking what these so-called "breeders" do to those puppies. Good Luck!! |
Tina is AKC registered, but her Sire isn't pictured on her site. She said she owned both her parents. Makes me wonder??? |
I am so sorry for your awful experience. I went over her site from tip to toeand it seemed legitimmate and the health guarentee was reasurring. If I was not waiting for a pup in the future from a YT member YEAH! I would consider them if i did not read your negative experience! I hope your little girl is comfy. What exactly is she suffering from? |
if you have photos, make sure you send them when you report this. yes...contact the spca, local animal control, and akc if she registers them w akc. send all of them the photos. this should assure a shut down. but don't let her know you are doing this. she could clean up the area before they get there. good luck to you and let us know what is happening with this. |
Those pictures on that website are DEFINITELY photoshopped in. Not true-life pics. What a scam, and what a shame for all those pups in her care. I just don't see how people can treat animals that way, all in the name of the almighty dollar. |
I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. I wish you all the best of luck in exposing this BYB. |
If the pictures represent the true living conditions..please please don't waist anytime reporting this!!!! Every minute that passes could mean the needless suffering of these babies. Notify the ASPCA, the local shelter,Have them check out the situation NOW. As stated above...don't let this breeder know that you are having her investigated before hand.. |
Please report this and help those little Furbabies  :thumbdown |
Concern about puppy mill :aimeeyorkHello: I am looking for a Cairn Terrier as a companion for another Cairn who I already own. I found an adorable one for sale at NextDayPets.com. I contacted the seller, Cheryl Nims in Lamar, Mo., but later thought I should do some Internet research on her to make sure she was not running a puppy mill, as I understand they are pretty common in Missouri and I wanted to make sure I was buying the dog from a reputable source. Anyway, the Net is most revealing, and that is where I found out that Ms. Sims is a breeder of Yorkies, and where I found your message. I suspect she may also breed Cairn Terriers as well and I am very concerned about the entire situation there. I want to know if you ever found out who you could report her to, and if any investigation of her breeding facility was ever done. I am so opposed to puppy mills or any other form of cruel treatment to animals, so please let me know. Thank You! |

I realize this is an old post, but I want to contribute. I bought Bella from Cheryl. Bella is about 6 1/2 years old. She has addisons and has been very ill for the past 3 - 3 1/2 years. I had emailed Cheryl right after Bella got sick to see if her other dogs had any history of addisons (oh, of course not). Anyway, I guess I must have sent her a pic of Bella because I was researching her website today and there is my dogs pic posted under her tails of approval or whatever it is called - which I never gave permission for her to post. Now I know all of her approvals are faked up. Very mad and disappointed. Guess my fault, just wanted to post my experience. http://carmirjacyorkies.com/main/img...od_360_263.jpg |
Man I HATE reading about dogs kept in cages outside ! I just hate it. Chicken wire cages ? That is so painful for their poor feet not to mention - they have absolutely no life outside that freakin cage:( you can do something - don't give up !! Contact your local news media too and keep trying - someone who is a pet lover will listen - I know this from personal experience ....so do whatever you have to do and you can help those poor dogs she still has....... What a lowlife ! |
Good Morning all! Those pics are definitely photo shopped! I wish you the best of luck and please report this lady so that she can stop the inhumane treatment of the lil ones! What kind of a person would keep these cute lil persons b/c thats what they are a lil person with loving personalities in a freakn chicken wire fence! Shut her down now! |
So sad.. I wish the AKC would do more about these people. I have a lady not far from me that all of her dogs are outside in pens. I have been told alot of puppies died this winter because the power was out for a few day. The AKC has been to her home several times and passed her. It makes me lose respect for the AKC when they come to a home with 50+ dogs caged outside and pass. |

Just wanted to make people aware. |
Wow, can't figure out where that came from. I bought a perfect yorkie from Cheryl Nims a few months ago. I have never seen such a spotless kennel. Stainless steel without a trace of soil. Happy playful pups that obviously loved her. You must have confused this breeder with someone else. I was so impressed I recommended someone else purchase their pup from her. They did and are equally as pleased with all the ongoing communication, quick answers to any questions, and a thoroughly healthy pup with one of the best guarantees I found after over 6 months of research. I would buy again from her, and will continue to recommend her for a quality well balanced pup. |
I think someone has made the whole thing up about cheryl nims. I have purchased from her and am delighted with the care and quality of the pups. And I can assure you they are not housed in chicken wire! This breeder has invested heavily in equipment (like incubators etc) to assure each and every pup receives optimum care from the moment they are born. While I fully recognize that any dog can develop a health issue as they mature, the guarantee cheryl provides is a written agreement. If someone was truly dissatisfied, the agreement is a written contract and provides protection for both the purchaser and the seller. If there is validity to the claim, which I doubt, they had recourse. |

I have adopted 3 yorkies from Cheryl Nims. We live a 2 hour drive from her kennel. The trips we made to see her facility have great memories. We first adopted a neutered male named Teddy Bear. He has been such a love that we went back and adopted 2 more baby girls. I assure you, I would NEVER get a dog from a puppy mill. Over many years, I have owned a dozen yorkies. NO, I am not a breeder. ALL have been spayed and neutered. All have been dearly loved. My first yorkie came in to my life in 1970. I have never been without yorkies since. I do not understand your negative comments. I have been there in person. I speak from experience. |
She's listed on page 30 of this USDA breeder's list: http://www.prisonersofgreed.org/lista02.pdf USDA breeder = puppy mill |

Normally i dont get in the middle of these kinds of things, but since i bought my yorkie from cheryl i have to speak about my experience. I own a beautiful and healthy 3 year old yorkie name bandit. Because i live in massachusetts i was not able to visit her home but i can assure you that she has always been very willing to help out with any issues or concerns i have. The picture that she sent to me of bandit when he was born is very accurate and i continue to give her progress reports of bandit and how much joy he has brought to my life. I knew about cheryl when my best friend purchased a beautiful yorkie named bella from her. I had nothing but positive experiences working with cheryl and assure you that when i'm ready to purchase my next yorkie it will be from her. |
