Oh What a NIght!!!
 
Remi wasn't due to whelp until the 24th but she decided last night during a storm and power outage was a good time. I through my whelping kit together quickly and set up the whelping pen and box. She delivered a gal (4.8 oz.) at 1:30 this morning and a boy (4.4 oz.) at 4:40. The boy was a tough one. He was a dry birth and just as stuck as can be. I kept lubing her up and milking him down the canal. It took over an hour to get him out and by that time she was walking around the pen with his little bottom half hanging. Oh how I appreciate electricity! He's a bit slow to latch on this morning but I'll give him some sugar water and hope for the best. Mom is doing great but I'm sure glad she only had 2 for her first litter. The drama is never ending!

Congrats! Figures she would go when there wasn't power!!! :rolleyes: They tend to pick the time we'd rather they NOT pick! Glad to hear everything ended up ok !!!!!!!

Isn't it amazing the times they choose to start having those puppies,lol. I want to know why they cant have they in the middle of the afternoon.

The birth weights are great, it is probably a good thing she came a few days early. I hope they are doing well.

Congrats on the new ones Tami and during a power outage is amazing. It seems like they like to pick the most inconvient times to give birth. I am glad the boy is fine and they are pretty good sized so I hope they continue to thrive.

That sounds like a nightmare I have had recently. My Lily came early too and she had a bit of a hard time birthing her one puppy.
I am so happy that all went well. CONGRATULATIONS!

The power came on around 9:30 this morning and I'm still cleaning up between little naps. Between Teddi being in heat and Connor acting like a madman (he peed on my husband's shoe this morning, in the dark) it's a bit like an insane asylum around here! Remi seems to be taking it all in stride. If I wouldn't have to give up sleep I'd whelp pups every night but not without electricity. Thanks for all of your good wishes,you're a great support team.

Congrats !. Our power went out the other night and I couldn't even find a darn flashlight. I couldn't imagine having pups in the dark. I had a dry birth pup too once, and he was so big I couldn't get any lube into her. I think my face was purple and my heart was pounding. I kept praying and pulling and trying to ky and finally he came out ok and was alive. I had lights and was frantic:p Can't wait to see pictures.:)

We tell them, they come when they're ready. We can count all we want but mother nature knows when it's time. They were ready, they have coat, good respirtory and healthy sucking reflex. So far they are both doing great. Tif named them Romeo and Juliette. Remi has herself so cleaned up you'd never know she's given birth 12 hours ago. She is the cleanest little dog I"ve ever seen. Who else is due in August?

we were out of power as well. why do they like to deliver in the middle of the night and especially when the power is out??? i am glad everything is well. i cannot wait to see the photos

I was actually able to get some pics through it all. First is Remi pregnant, she wasn't very big but she acted like she was huge! Second Remi laboring before the lights went out. Third, First puppy nursing (can't believe this came out, good camera!)

Congratulations on your new additions. I don't know how you did it. I am still an emotional wreck from Twinkles first and LAST litter. My hats off to you veterans out there. If whelping Yorkies was my responsibility, it would be the end of the breed. It was a beautiful sight, but my heart could'nt take it.

Thanks, If I could make a living whelping pups I'd do it in a heart beat! When I was a youngun I wanted to be a vet but didn't have the stomach for it. Now having 2 kids has toughened me up but I'm too old to go to vet school. Oh well that's the way it goes! I'm sure Twinkles will enjoy her life of leasure as a pet.

I am so sorry but I just now ran across this thread about your ordeal!
I am so glad everything worked out ok!! You did a fine job to not have any electricity. Congrats. :hearts33:
