Tomorrow is "D" Day for Twinkles At the suggestion of some "seasoned" YT's, I am starting a new thread. Background: Twinkles is my 2 year old (9/4) grand-Yorkie (granddaughter) who is expecting her first litter of five puppies due 8/16/07. The daddy is my one yr. old (9/27) Ollie, who did a sneak attack - in other words, this was totally unplanned! But they are coming and I love them all already. After a false start last night, Twinkles spent the day resting, although she still is having diarrhea. She spent most of the day in her whelping box but this afternoon, she jumped OVER her x-pen (no kidding) free-style. Scared me to death because I was afraid she would hurt herself or one of the pups! I called the vet to ask about what to feed her because her appetite is off and everything goes right through her. The vet put her on meat baby food and boiled chicken and I am giving her Nutracal to keep up her strength so she has energy when she goes into labor. Her nipples began leaking colostrum today. I keep thinking she will go into labor soon because she is very restless, panting and can't seem to stay in one place for very long. Last night we ended up in the ER because we thought she was in trouble... thank goodness she was OK! It it weren't for the YT forum, I would have really panicked! This group is great! I will be going online the first sign of labor.... beware! I have read everything I can get my hands on and short of kidnapping someone from this group, I am as ready as I can be, I guess. Thanks in advance for all the help, advice, encouragement and Yorkie love everyone has given so far. Off to try to get some sleep :snore: - just in case tonight really is the night! When they whelp, it's a long night. Bless your heart, you had a pre-whelping long night. Better rest up. I've got a maltese that was due on the 14th (first due date) and I'm probably going to have to cancel a weekend getaway to be here for the whelping. I'm just dying, and it seems she's determined for me to cancel. Her temp is not low enough so it wont be too awful soon. We'll be checking back to see how you're doing. |

Poor thing is lying on the couch next to me blown up like a balloon, tongue hanging out, panting away. She looks like a helium balloon that is about 2 weeks old...... Temp is still about 100. Pups look like they are re-arranging the furniture in her belly. Every so often she will lift her head and look at me with those soulful eyes as if to say "How much longer?" For some reason I just can't sleep. :coffee_n_ |

I can understand you not being able to sleep. All the excitement gets your adrenaline going! I've been following your posts since you started posting in the August Babies thread and am filled with anticipation and ready to help in anyway I can if need be. Go Twinkles!! |
I just found this thread and I am more excited than when I posted on the August Babies thread. Any news?????????? I really don't think I will be getting any rest today, or work... for that matter either. I will be spending my time here.:dogwalk: </IMG> |
Good luck!! |
if she is panting a lot, it looks like the first signs of labor. have you taken her temp? |
I wish you the best of luck. Whelping is a nerve-racking experience for me, although very exciting as well. Fortunately I've got a couple of very nice friends who always help me out when Rubi is on labour. Will be taking care of the whelping or is somebody helping you. Can't get to here more news from you and see pics of the lil ones. |

I have been taking her temp since day 57. It has been 99.4 during the day and goes up to 100 to 100.6 at night. Yesterday it was 99.4 during the day went to 99.8 at night then this morning it went up to 100.2, which is different than any other day, if that means anything. No other signs of anything. Active puppies, still producing colostrum, and clear mucous from vulva. Any ideas? If she were human, I'd take her for a bumpy ride in a jeep or walk through the mall. How do you get labor to start in dogs? Lynn:confused:  Twinkles:sleep:   Ollie:woof: :yay_jump: |

Don't worry, at least you know that she eventually will have to deliver those puppies. |

I keep checking back at this thread hoping to hear some news. Hope all is well .....:) |

No sign of the stork..... 4 Attachment(s) Sorry guys, nothing yet. Twinks is sleeping peacefully on the floor next to my chair (so is Ollie). Her temp was 100.4 this morning. No discharge from vulva, no panting, nothing! I called my Vet's office and no one is really worried, so I am giving her until Sunday evening (when Twink's Dr. is on call at 6pm) and if no pups by then, we will go in for a check up. I have attached some picture of my little pot-bellied pig. :camera: Enjoy! Sleeping Peacefully 8/15/07 Today's the day! 8/16/07 A kiss goodnight 8/16/07 Ollie trying to comfort(?) Twinkles 8/16/07 When it happens, you guys will be the first to know - minute by minute! Lynn:love:   Twinkles :asleep: :asleep: :asleep: & Ollie :snore: :snore: |

Is there any puppies yet??? I looove puppies breath.. :D |
Thinking of you and hoping for some news on Twinkles and puppies..... |
i hope everything went well last night. i will be watching for updates. |
Ho Hum Time passes so slowly when you are waiting for yorkie puppies...... Temp was 99.4 last night and again this morning. Twinks had another bour of loose stools last night - this time is was dark brown... just seemed to ooze out of her with no control on her part. Poor thing was so embarrassed. I finally gave her a bottom wash in the sink out of desparation and cut a hole in one of my grandson's diapers for her tail and put that on her when we went to bed. She kept in one most of the night. I felt like I was sleeping on a giant pee pad........ lol 2:15 pm Didn't get this sent off this morning.... Twinkles has been digging in her bed in the living room he has also been hiding under the ottaman today, which she has never done before. She is eating small amounts of scrambled egg. She was on her way to the pee pad and couldn't make it... pee'd on the rug. Poor thing was so embarrased. I am afraid to think she may be going into labor, as we have had so many false starts.... so I will just watch and wait. The funny thing is, Ollie is digging everywhere, too. He digs in the whelping box, digs in her bed and in his bed too. Does the daddy know what's going on? He seems to be very gentle with her the past two days, where he is usually very rough and tumble. More later... Hopeful Grammy....:xfingers: |
looks like it is going to be today or tonight. good luck |

OT but we use to have a little Pekinese that never had a heat. when our cat had kittens she wanted those babys so bad to be her own, she would go lay with them all the time and clean them, Then she would let them nurse off her, The thing is after that she didnt want the momma cat to come around her babys, so we had to keep the babys from her until they was older, She loved those babys. |

I am attaching the two photos of right before Lexie gave birth to 7 puppies in July. We have another female, Davie, and a male, Harley, the father of the litter. While Lexie was laboring, she wanted to be near Harley and Davie, so I finally put a towel on the sofa and Harley first took her two of his toys, then Davie jumped up and layed right next to her. They were together until I saw that the first puppy was in the birth canal and I put Lex in the Whelping pen. Davie and Harley stayed up on the sofa that was in the same room for the entire birth. For the first 3 weeks Lex didn't like the two in the pen with her new babies, but now that they are 4+ weeks, and being weaned, all three seem to be training and playing with the puppies. We just love watching the interaction of the 10 of them together. I am going to miss these little stinkers!!! |
