Why is Chachi not interested. A lady has been bringing her girl over to mate with Chachi, for over a week now, and he shows interest, a lot of sniffing, some mounting and a few thrusts, but then nothing. Have any of you other breeders encountered this? She is ready and eager, about 14 days into her cycle now. What would be some reason as to why he won't mate with her? she claims her neutered male is after her constantly. When Ollie was in heat, Chachi was after her the entire time. I'm puzzled. Is there anything we can do to encourage him. You can PM me if the details are too graphic. |

Yes I've had that happened. Very frustrating. The time that I've had her all over him, I ended up having to put a towel down, he was too short and he was wearing himself out and giving up. I found this out when I asked someone to come in and see what in the heck was going on. Then they had the first tie of the season. I was afraid she had missed because she was ready for several days prior but she didn't. I actually already had a towel down, but it needed to be doubled up, I think they sank right down as soon as he stood on them. |

Has he tied before? Some males just take longer getting it down. The only thing that I can suggest is to A-I her. If you don't know how to do that, then you'll have to get a vet. |

I have one that will jump on the blanket and dance around waiting on me to hold the female for him.. I have heard some say to give the female a bath. I guess it washes other smells off her. I also know some males are just not into certain females for some reason. AI maybe your only way. |

not interested If I have a stud that is not interested, I "fly" the girl around over his head and around the room.(I carry her where he cant reach her) Usually this drives them mad and performance is not a problem after that. Ever here this: a man only wants what he cant get? Its basically true.(in people too!!LOL) Also, all of my studs are taught to be handled at breeding time. That way they dont shy off if I have a girl that is not co-operating or may bite. They are never left to "free breed". A girl can really hurt a male that is tied. Oh boy sounds like doggie porn in here. Any luck getting him interested as yet. I know I heard another breeder a while back say that once they bathed the female that their male wouldn't tie with later that day he was rearing to go. She said she now makes it a practice to wash a female that comes to the house to be bred. Maybe she smells as though she doesn't belong there..know what I mean. |

I have had the same problem with Petey and my Lilly. But Petey has fathered 3 liters and 1 more on the way. Lilly nothing??!!?? I think the problem is Lilly , not Petey. I think she goes into a false heat. Anyway, I hold the girls and then Petey feels safe enough and goes about his busy. When the girls growl at him he backs away, but since I hold them he is a great little stud. and I also found the use of a nice thick book under his hind legs helps a lot. Keep us posted on how he does.;) |
