Water breaking time frame!!!!! Anyone up- need answer ASAP Hi, Is there a time frame after the water breaks that you shouldn't go past???? Hoping there is someone up!!!1 |
Do you know how to feather her? How long has it been? we are whelping a litter now too she presented 2 sacs at once but we now have 2 pups one girl one boy so far Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
its been a little over an hour, the sak presented and she broke it. She's having contraction every 5 minutes and resting inbetween. With each contraction time she has about 15 short pushes then she rests for about 5 minutes and they start again. She went out side to potty and went both. Feathering, insert finger and move finger correct? Will this work even though she's having contrations? THANKS!!!!!! |
Bump! I'm not near my computer so I'm running down inbetweeen contractions to see if anyone replied. |
Sorry we just had another girl and just got a chance to check back. My girl was presenting two sacs and had went over an hour then she started to rest and then push I put on a glove and some KY and checked to see what we had going on and she started giving stronger contractions immeadiately with the lil bit of feathering I did. I haven't had to use Calsorb this time. Do you have any calsorb on hand? Have you checked her to see if you can feel the pup ? Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
I just found a website that said it can take up to two hours after the water breaks? True? |
I was going to order some and didn't but she's had a tiny bit of nutrical and some vanilla icecream through out. I'll head up to feather now. |
I have had them take that long before without any problems And I was freaking out..of course. But everything was fine, now I just chill out a bit and let time be on our side and just not panic. :) Just watch her for the obvious signs of problems. I was hoping my girl would go earlier today. I knew she was going to go into labor today and of course she took her good sweet time waiting for the graveyard shift..lol I am thrilled to have two good size girls and one smaller boy Hugs Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
Sending Prayers your way! Cant wait to hear what you have ;) |
I just checked her and I don't feel anything. I don't think the pups are in the canal yet. She started around 10:13pm tonight with small short pushes every 15 minutes apart and now we are at 5 minutes. her last one she started at 11am and ended up having one pup around 6pm after a shot of oxy from the vet. How much longer do you think is ok to wait. She not in any distress and she's resting inbetween or trying to get close to me Congrats on your litter!!!! yes, I freak out during this time - big time |
You are in our thoughts and prayers. I have never had a Mom break the bag before the puppy was out so I am going to be no help. This will be a learning opportunity for me too!! Keep Us posted!! |
I have always been told after water breaks it should be 15 minutes - 30 minutes but no longer than 2 hours But you have to watch for signs and if you feel like you need to go to ER, you do that. All dogs are different and you know your girl best. If you feel she needs help by all means better safe than sorry. Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
its been 2 hours since the water broke. I don't feel a pup in the canal either. My vet has a pager. I guess I'm waking him up. |
Does she seem to be tiring out? Have you still not found a puppy? If it started an hour ago and no puppy is presenting, she may have trouble. I believe that it is correct that it can take up to 2 hours as long as your girl is not wearing herself out. I'm going to check on a couple of things. |
Thats great that you can speak to your vet Here we have ER and we don't get the pleasure of having our vets on call. My son works as a vet tech here at a clinic and I can get directly into their vets thru my son for emergencies which is nice to have that advantage now. But I do prefer my vet first! :) Let us know what your vet says. My concern is someone could be blocking the birth canal:( Hugs, Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
You had me so nervous that I couldn't remember anything! Notify the vet if there is strong, persistent labor for 30 minutes up to 2 hours without delivery of a pup. You may need to contact your vet. |
I just saw where you are going to contact your vet. Good move! I agree with Deana, I too am concerned about someone blocking the birth canal. Let us know what the vet says. |

Must be the night for Yorkie pups to be born :) Good lick with Stormys whelping/litter Hugs Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
Vet's not answering his page  I'm going to call an emergeny clinc which is real far from me though. She's showing no distress, drinking, going out and pottying and labor isn't that hard  |
I just read some info I have on whelping. You need to get her to a vet. Good Luck! Sending prayers for a safe delivery. |

If your vet wont answer and its been this long, I would take her to another ER vet. if the placenta broke or she broke it before the puppy completed his journey outwards, it can lead to death by asphyxia, or do the fact that the fetus is extremely big and can not pass by the vagina or that the pelvis is too small. I hope you get her in and all is well. |
