I've never done it but watched many videos and I can see how scary and nerve racking it could be! |
Bless her heart, she'd doing her best. I hope Precious pulls through. I agree tubing would be best. And probably some fluids through subqing at home or IV at the vets. She may need to take her to the emergency vet. If she doesn't eat, and she isn't being given fluids, it's not going to get any better. |
I know, I'm pulling for her too, so bad. I'm ready for bed, but afraid to sign off in case she posts! I just hope she off cuz she's feeding her right now. The vets told her they got her to latch on there...so hopefully. She also has a good suction on the bottle, (when she ate some earlier) so that was a good sign too. |

Prayers for Peaches and Precious! Sounds like your doing everything you can for her. Glad the baby seems to be sucking and taking in some nurishment! You may be in for a long nite, but it sounds like your up for it. Keep us updated!!! Hang in there!! |
I rubbed just a little nutro cal on her lips then on Peaches Nipple and she has been nursing now for the past 10 minutes on Peaches... it started at 12:14 and now its 12:25 and she is still nursing on Peaches... That makes me soooooooooo Happy!!! |
Peaches is now licking her puppy now and being attentive to it. However, the lil one, (Precious) seems to need help getting a hold of the nipple to nurse. I had noticed prior to today that Peaches nipples didnt seem prominent like other yorkies pictures on here when they were showing their bellies. Do you think there is something wrong with her nipples.. I mean inverted like sometimes happends to us humans.. making it harder for the pup? |
How was your night Joy? It sounds like Peaches is beginning to catch on to things. |
Hi Joy, how are the little ones doing? I think, it's normal the lil one finds it hard to latch on. She's so tiny. But don't worry. The most important thing is that she's healthy and keeps on suching. Hold on to her while she's sucking so she does not slide down the mummy's nipple. Is Peaches a first time mother? If she is, then it's normal her teats are smaller. I think the lower teats are the easiest for the little ones to suckle. Don't worry about the size of Peaches' teats. Make sure the tummy of the lil one gets bigger each time she feeds. That's the safest way to know she's sucking. You're doing a great job. Keep it up. Wish you and your lil ones the best.:) |
Half a sleep Its been an all nighter for me. Making sure that Precious latches on and holding her there while she is latched. I have not looked at her belly after words. I just assumed Precious was satisfied because when she was finally done nursing she would not be whimperig. Precious likes to sleep between the two back legs with her head facing her rump. I guess its warmer there... is that normal. I was asked if Peaches is a first time Mom... Yes she is.. and last.. I had her spayed while the c-section was done. She just has the one puppy. She will nurse around 30 mintues at a time .. anywhere from 1 and half hours to 2 hours. Is that about normal? Oh yea, Peaches will not lay in her whelping box I had for her.. She wants to be in my bed with Precious. So I just let her.. I hope thats okay... She wants right next to me. and I mean right next to me. |
That's wonderful Joy. It sounds like she's doing great. At least with them in bed, you can get some shuteye, however small it is right now. I imagine everyone is pretty happy over there. Many breeders (almost all) have scales to watch the little ones with. Walmart has them in the appliance department. That would be very useful to you to monitor her. To assure you that she's gaining and to alert you if there is a problem. Weighing 2 ounces, you need one that weighs in grams the electric ones are best IMO Just a thought to be helpful, not that you have to do it :) |
