Day 63, still no puppies..advice?
 
Hi, my female is now on day 63. This is her 2nd litter of pups. Her first litter she went on day 60 and had 4 and everything went okay (except one pup died at 2 weeks old due to leaky heart valve).

What should i do if anything? Is it okay for her to go much longer?

She has until midnight....contact your vet, you may want to take her in just to check. But, she can go a couple of days beyond as sperm lives 48 hours and it depends when she ovulated and when she concieved.

So then its okay if they go past the 63 day mark? She stopped eating last night and has had diarrhea today.. not too bad, probably more like loose stool. I just called my vet and left a message but i wanted to know if this is normal to go over 63 days.:)

my last one was at day 65....i was just getting ready to call the vets when she finally delivered.

She will likely go today then, loose stool is first indicator take her temp watch for fever as something could be going wrong if she runs a fever. Temp should drop then come up to normal then whelping will occur. You may not catch the temp drop depends on when you take the temp.

Sounds like she's ready. Check her temp, keep her in a confined area and watch her like a hawk.

It's not real normal but, it happens.

thanks ladies, my vet just called me back and said not to worry as long as she isnt contracting or acting like she is in pain. She has even played a little today but now she is sleeping... hopefully resting up to have those babies.

If she's ready 99-98...and it should hold at that for about 12 hours.


If it spikes above 102.....then there's a problem

Did you take her temp? What was it? Is there any other signs? Nesting? You are in our thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted.

Okay so we have 2 pups... but there is at least one more in there and its been 2 hours now.. Is this okay for her to not be trying to have the last? She has had a few contractions but then she just lays down and lets the babies nurse.. Should I be concerned?

Do you know how to feather? Put a surgical glove on, cover 1 finger with KY Jelly and insert finger lightly and move gently...this can start up the contractions. You may want to contact your vet too. If the feathering doesn't work, you might want to try some NutriDrops...she may be tired. If that doesn't work. She may need a POP shot....

I have never had any shots given after the last litter... what is a POP shot?

I hope all goes well for her! How are the first two puppies doing? Hopefully, she will have the third one very soon!

A POP shot is Oxcytocin. It should be given after whelping to clean her out and prevent infection. It can also be given to bring on contractions, also helps with bringing in the milk

Are you sure there is a 3rd one.....You know contractions can continue after whelping

Is she still contracting? Showing signs of labor? I would have to agree with Mardelin at this point. If she isn't showing signs of progress soon, I would take her in. Good luck!

My girl had six pups and it took her from 10:00am to 7:30pm to have them all..the last took three hours..Tea' was tired, but like you state, I could feel that pup moving. I called the vet and he told me maybe it was just her uterus I felt contracting into a ball..but I knew it wasn't because it was kicking:) Hoping the pup is out by the time I post this!:p
