If in fact people would read the posts thorougly before posting it would eliminate people jumping in at chastising someone for an accident Knowing how to differeniate from those that are hell bent on breeding without doing the research. Accidents happens.

You've got time and I know you're kicking yourself in the butt, nobody else has to do it for you.

Yes it can happen just that fast. Mine were especially frisky after a bath also. people who have not experienced this, have no clue how quickly it can happen.

When it happened to mine, I was advised to let them together for more breedings to hopefully prevent having a single pup that would get to large. I was lucky, it was too late in her cycle and she did not take.

I think we can all learn from this.

Don't let one person get to you. Accidents do happen. As hard as it is, please don't be too scared. Just follow the advice these wonderful people have given you and all will be fine. I can't wait for the wonderful birth announcement. Best wishes to you and Peaches!!

I am so very sorry for the unplanned pregnancy and the stress you are under. You have had tons of positive input from some of our very experienced and competent breeders and encouragement and hugs from many who are either beginning breeders and/or just well wishers, me included. I will keep you and Peaches in my thoughts and prayers.

I would definately start looking for a new vet. I can't imagine a vet that doesn't do c-sections.

Okay, I am wondering....I had two different advices.. Some said do a Scheduled C-section.. Others said I should let her go in Labor. Leaving me confused on what one to do.

MY dogs only tied "Once" now I wish I had let them tie again like some breeders had said.. but other told me not to as well as my Vet... Sooooooooo I didnt let them tie again. Wish now that I had because just like the Breeders that told me to let them tie again... They said that if I didnt she could end up with ONE BIG puppy... and that is what happend.
So, Do I schedule the C section or let her go in Labor and then take her? :confused:
She tied on May 27. I am POSTIVE about that cause I marked it that Very day so that there would be NO question.

You can worry and ponder over the advice given to you. Each of us breeders will go by our experiences. The best advice I can give you is find a vet that you're comfortable with, one that is familiar with small breeds and make a decision together.

Since you are probably going to have to find another vet to do the c-section, why dont you get a second opinion from him and see what he says. He might think she will be ok or he might be on call to do the section when she goes in to labor if she has trouble. I had an accidental breeding once and I did not let them tie again and she ended up having a very large singleton. She didnt have any trouble delivering her but she was about 5 1/2 lbs too I think. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I am sure you are very scared.

Im sure that everything will go well with your baby. I also will be looking for the thread were we can all welcome your new addition into the world.

First you are in our thoughts and prayers. I want to tell you that our Davie's first litter was with one "big" boy that the vet said would need to be taken by c-section. Davie went into labor, and I waited till the vet was open, about 2 hours and called to get her in. No big hurry. We left the house and went the .8 of a mile to the vet...I was sitting in the waiting room with Davie on my lap, and she made one big push and I had her and a puppy on my lap. Davie broke the sack and a vet tech tied and cut the cord, the next contraction the after birth was delivered, and after the dr. saw we were all OK, we went home..all three of us!! Moral of this story....Peaches may need a c-section, but she may not either. Get another vets opinion.
We have an accident litter right now at our house and it has been the best opps ever. Lexie and Harley only tied once, with a wire crate betweem them, and 61 days later we have the most beautiful litter of 7 healthy puppies. Now would I have liked to have Lexie skip that heat...yes, but will I send this precious bundles of joy "packing" no...I am going to enjoy every minute of the time I have with them, and find wonderful forever home when they are lots older. Things happen for reasons and sometimes the reason is not apparent to us or the people around us right away.

Thank you so much! I did take the advice today....Thats what I was doing .. I got a Second opinion from another Vet and they said they Say Def. a C-section. I have her scheduled on day 61 ... that is on July 27th. I will keep you updated and thank you for all that you have helped me with and all your support. Thank you! Thank You! Thank You!

Please don't take everyones opinions personally as an attack against you or breeding in general. I think you should be able to receive both sides of an opinion when posting in an open forum.
Accidents can and do happen quite abit, but understand there are very reputable and knowledgable people here who are tired of hearing how it accidently happened and now the female is at risk.
I wish you the best with this and personally would offer any help I can to anyone who is interested. I will say that I am not a breeder who has nearly the experience that alot of others here do, but my door and phone is always open.

Now as far a a secheduled c-section IMO - I recommend getting a second vet to use, because all of the ones near me would wait till she shows signs of needing one first. The risks are there yes, but she might be able to have this pup on her own. Jumping in and doing a c-section isn't the answer hun. You put her at risk unintentionally with an accidental pregnancy now don't put her at more risk jumping the gun. Use this time wisely and research more and get another vet's opinion with your time.

Oh, "wow" I'm SO sorry hun I just PM'd you, how weird is that. I knew you should know by now if she was pregnant or not. Then I told myself check and see if she started a thread and sure enough I found this one.

At least you know she needs a C-section so you can at least be prepared, relax because if you stress Peaches can feel your stress and she will stress. Hang in there it will be okay :) ..

I don't think the upset on this thread was because of an accidental breeding because we all know those can happen, these lil guys are determined when nature calls. What concerns me is the fact that there was ever a consideration as far as breeding this little gal. At 3.5 pounds most bitches are too small to free whelp and should be spayed before their first heat. If they are spayed in a timely manner than they will never be put at risk of an accidental breeding. I think this is a good example of why we should stay on top of things and spay them when they are too small to breed.

Ummm sorry, but she is a little over 4 and half pounds. I never said she was 3 and half pounds. I was doing research b4 I made a final choice.
By what the Vets says is that she is small for this ONE pup.. because it got so big. That she has plenty of room inside and normaly would be fine... But neither here or there.. I am going to have her Spayed at the same time of her C-section because I just dont want to chance anything.... I am NOT a breeder ... Its just not in my make up.

I think you sound like a very good mommy to me. My gosh I have a 29 year old "accident" living right next door to me....and I love him to death.:D Accidents are just that....accidents. You are doing all the right things and I will keep your babies in my prayers. Patty

I don't understand, earlier in this thread you posted that she is 4.14 lbs. at 53 days pregnant. I assumed that she had gained some weight during this pregnancy and would therefore be under 4 pounds prepregnant weight. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed but the point still holds that it is dangerous for a lot of these tiny females to become pregnant and they should therefore be spayed before their first heat to make sure that they are protected against accidents because they can and do happen.

:) You are right, but just as Mardelin said, who is on here and a very respected well known Breeder on here. Being she is only having 1 puppy. She didnt gain alot of weight. If you or someone else saw her you would not be able to tell she was PG. I can only because I know my baby. Also, Normally I think before ppl know about Breeding they do research and then make a choice. If everyone got their Baby spayed then made the choice.. I would think the choice was already made. I was Keeping Peaches Downstairs and Rascal Upstairs during her season. This was not her first heat. It worked fine before. But as you read from my other post on how it happend I would think you can see that it was a Human mistake. But No, I would not even consider breeding my Baby is she were that small. I also was having Peaches Xrayed before her 3rd heat to see if she was able to carry. I had talked to my vet a month prior in doing so. Matter of fact, someone I know was considering mating her baby and she was 3 pounds and I told her why she could not and she didnt realize that a dog could be to small and it had that much involved. This didnt make this person a Bad person. It just made her ignorant. Which explains why I was researching and trying to make a proper choice before I went and got her spayed. and MY vet said she is not To tiny to have whelped a normal litter. He said it was because she has just ONE puppy who is taking everything for just him/her. Making it bigger then normal. However, there are some Breeders that feel U should not under 5 pounds.. and others that say 4 1/2 is fine. I have read that a 5 pound or even 6 pound + can be built not being able to breed because of a small make up inside. But then a 4 and half pound dog be built just fine for it. Neither here or there. Mine is going to be spayed after her C-section. Because, Flat out... from this and all my research. I am just not cut out to be a Breeder and I give all Breeders Props... Some just are not cut out for it and some are.

No one said any one was bad only that it is hard to keep nature from having it's way. I have a stud and 3 brood bitches living in my home and I know what a battle it is to control breeding. I spent years researching before I started my breeding program and I appreciate the effort that you are putting into research. The point is if you have an intact male in your home and an intact female in your home most likely you will have a pregnancy.

Well, not for long. Peaches will be spayed. :) Then we will have 2 females in this house hold spayed. Sorry, if it seemed as if I were implying that you were saying that someone or I was bad. I was just saying hypothetically. But I can see where you would have received that after rereading my post. :)

I will pray that all goes well with the birth for Peaches....I am sure with a good Vet it'll turn out fine and you will soon have a lovely little bundle to coo over - lucky you !

I was in the same predicament a few months ago whether or not to breed my four year old female whom I bought last year, before I spayed her.
I tried, as I have a four year old male, and they eventually tied, after a lot of practice.....but no pups !
So I think your wee one was meant to be !
If it is there after such a quick one off tie, then it is a gift from God !
I have one last chance this August, as I don't want her to have puppies any older, but I have surgery scheduled for myself at the end of August with a long recovery afterwards, so I think things are against me ! It will be my last chance to have puppies, as my first female was neutered at 1 yr, and I didn't expect to have the opportunity with another female ever. They are very collectable though - I now have my two girlies and one wee boy !
If all goes well - you should keep this puppy !

It has always been my understanding that it was very dangerous for a bitch to be bred her first time if she was over 3 years old.

If the Puppy is a boy you should call him Chance.
