Is one better then the other.... What is the difference?

AKC is the most strick of all the registries and the most prestigious. ckc and aca (which most large puppy farms use) are not as accurate or strick to who you register.

for an example...my kirby was akc and he was studding a girl who was ckc. i registered him with ckc. they asked no questions nor to see any photos. he could have been any breed of dog.

aca is just a registry that is less expensive to register a puppy. who knows what is the heritage behind these dogs????

now akc will NEVER NEVER NEVER let you register a puppy with them unless both of their parents were akc and the litter has been registered with them.

i could be wrong but i am pretty sure i am right

I also think CKC has 2 meanings:

Canadian Kennel Club
and
Continental Kennel Club

I like AKC because they are so strict. They can do checks on breeders at any time and make sure that all of their paperwork is all in order. All of our yorkshires are AKC registered and I really like it a lot. You can get some very nice looking dogs out of other registeries and you can get some not so nice looking dogs from AKC. So no way can I say that AKC dogs look better than others, but as far as purebred - they are the best (I think anyway). They will not except photos as proof of that dog as a purebred and some registries do.

Any registry can do this, not just AKC. I turned in a CKC breeder for infractions that would curl your hair and CKC wasted NO time in checking into it. She can't register with them anymore and a local shelter took most of her dogs.:) :thumbup:

Beings that AKC will not take a dog from CKC, ACA ... How did they start regestering Yorkshire Terriers to begin with. I mean at one time they did not reconize them as a Breed, correct? :confused: Sooooooo if that would be the case they started somewhere and registered that first one. Cant you prove through any other testing that your Yorkie is purebred to them or no?

UKC is the United Kennel Club. It's been around since 1898 and is a pure breed registry. They host shows confirmation, weightpull, agility, etc. as well as junior showmanship. They don't allow professional handlers so it's not as political as showing AKC, is very family oriented and rather laid back at shows. I've really enjoyed showing UKC, it's a wonderful practise arena for showing AKC. I had to show proof of AKC registration in order to register Connor UKC so they're pretty strict with their regustration proof.

nope...i was amazed. i had a photo, his pedigree, akc registration paper work all ready to send to them. they stated they did not need this. all i had to do was to fill out one form, sent in 20.00 and they sent me ckc reg paper work. now....to think about it, i think i had to give his akc number on the form. maybe they have a way to cross ck it???

OK, that's what I was wondering...that would probably be why. That just struck me as odd because from all my dealings with them, "not having to have anything" went against everything I've ever been told by them.

Just to add...

3 of our 5 dogs were aquired w/ AKC reg only. We had them dual reg w/ CKC and were asked for their AKC reg number at minimum each time.
(And for the record, they were aquired w/ full AKC reg and were cross reg w/ the breeders' knowledge and consent.:) )

I am all for AKC registeration. I looked at a Yorkie that was CKC registered. I asked the lady what the difference between them were ( I already knew but wanted her to tell me) She said " I use to have AKC dogs but they are too strict with the dogs that you register, so I went with CKC and I can register any of these puppies without quiestion." I looked at her Yorkies? I would give any amount of money that the puppy I was looking at was bred with the chiwawa that she had in the house. It was definetly NOT a Purebred Yorkie. I like the strictness of AKC it shows Prestige and that they are keeping the breed pure. JMO

Sounds to me like you met a very bad, dishonest breeder. I've met some that fit the description you have that were breeding AKC dogs as well. I think blame should be placed on the breeder, not just the registry--it's not CKC fault that their name should be tarnished because this lady isn't doing the right thing. Did you do anything to inform CKC of your findings or experience there? Any breeder can lie and give inaccuate information, regardless of what registry they are using.:)
