questions, questions... Wow, it's been since 10:30am or earlier...and now I still can't sleep...Tea's had her six pups, I guess there aren't going to be more, perhaps the pup I thought I felt was just her uterus contracting..but she still had the green discharge and maybe once an hour has contractions like she wants to get a (or more) placentas out. You can see like a small sac of them come out an inch or so but then they don't expel...I am calling the vet first thing in the a.m., maybe she needs a shot of oxytocin? She is eating alright, giving her things with calcium and mixed with a bit of her food (per the vet's recommendation)...but she still doesn't seem to be sleeping much (ok, how does one sleep well with 6 pups nursing and wiggling:) but I don't like that she is panting so much...any ideas????? Hoping someone can't sleep like me and will have an answer or help. Thx. Signed, Overworriedovertirednewyorkiebabymom!! (Debbie) |
Sorry, no advice from me. But wanted to says congrats! This thread has been so interesting to read!!! Good luck with all those babies! I'm jealous!! |
TINO and TEA have 6 PUPS!!!! WOW!!!!! 6 PUPS!! Tino is so excited to have become a daddy but no way had he anticipated having 6 his first try!!! LOL I am definately going to make a trip out this weekend to see our "grandchildren" hahaha. I am so excited and I hope you got some sleep last night~ Tino says hi and hope everything is well with Tea:we're #1: :good job: |
Hi Tino!! Hi to proud daddy Tino! Finally got three hours sleep, not in succession mind you..:) Tea' still has the placenta(s) in there, and the maybe mild contractions that I thought would expell them hasn't worked, it was like she would go outside to pee and hunch over and it would start to come out..and then 'darn it' nothing. The discharge is still dark green/black too. So, I knew the vet's office opened at 8:45 and I am their first call. They are first having me try a homeopathic called "pulsatilla". If that doesn't work, I will call back by noon. Here's keeping my fingers, toes and everything else crossed. Six pups are doing great, she is nursing them well... Write more when I have more news.. zzzzzzzzzzzzz... Debbie and Tea' +6 |

omg They are so sweet and look at momma what a doll! |
maybe over..have to wait and see OK..as far as the retained placentas..the vet told me to give her more of the homeopathic med and then when she started a contraction to pull fairly stead and hard on the part of the cord hanging out of her (it is, was, about an inch long). So, had my worries, like would she bleed or something, so had my crew on hand to head to the vet. So, started pulling on this mushy cord thingy and kept it steady and as I was doing that it started a contraction and about 15 seconds of steady pulling, finally this big blob let loose. (sorry not for the feint at heart). I saw another blobby beginning and grabbed that, sure enough, number 2 placenta and then a third. She had six pups so maybe she ate a few, they're pretty quick, but I am keeping a verrrrrry close eye on her for any more. Tea' seemed fairly relieved by all this, they had to weigh close to 1/2 lb. Wanted to keep anyone who is going to have first time pups up to date juuuuuuuuussssst in case, as I have been searching the site for anyone else with this scenario. Again, will keep updating for anyone who is curious:) Thx to all again! Debbie |
Glad to hear Tea can finally rest! I am still in shock over 6 pups! As I am sure the same with you. I printed that picture already and it is hanging in my office as I write. They are all absolutely beautiful!!! I knew Tea and Tino's pups would be cute but I believe now that was an understatement~ their PERFECT! lol Well definately keep the pictures coming as things settle and let me know how everyone is doing...Yeah puppies puppies puppies~ |
Good job getting the placentas out! I hope that this is it for her and she can rest now. Beautiful litter! |
OMG CONGRatulations!!! I was sitting here sweating right along with you...now it is our turn!! |
this is like a SAGA...story has it's twists and turns Well, three placentas did finally come out but Tea's temp jumped to 104 this afternoon... took her and the pups to the vet and they gave her a shot of calcium, an antibiotic, fluids and another drug that was supposed to bring on more contractions to expell the remaining placentas. One of the vets thought they felt another head inside Tea' and was afraid that there was a dead pup and that she should get x-rays. They were mentioning a C-section at this point and my gosh, here she's got 6 nursing pups to care for. Well, half an hour later the vet comes back and says NO more pups just a huge contracting uterus probably trying to push out the rest of the mess...whew...lord I think I let go a sigh heard from here to the west coast...that whole thing was darn scarey!!! Well, she's home with her pups now, kinda lethargic from the whole ordeal and she has antibiotics to take in the morning. Going to bring her back in to check on her tomorrow as well as dock the puppies tails and remove the dew claws. Nobody said this was going to be easy..and for those of you still reading this thread, please say a little prayer that Tea' feels better, I would be very grateful:) Thank you everyone. Debbie |
