| underbite hey guys, my sis is looking for a playmate for her maltese and she went to look at a baby this morning, he is 6mths old, she called me & asked if a underbite was something that she should be concerned about? i dont know anything about breeding so would this have any bearing on future pups if she was to breed? she said it was just a slight one thanks

| Punkin has an underbite I think it makes her adorable but you are not supposed to breed them with that condition. I was never interested in breeding so it didn't matter.

| Bella has an overbite. She's fine with it and same thing, I think it looks cute. Also, I'm not going to breed her.

| An underbite will not effect the health of the dog unless it is very severe. It's best not to breed a dog with an under bite since the standard calls for a scissor or even bite. If you breed a dog with a bad bite you risk the chance that half the pups will have a bad bite as there are not many dogs around that are homozygous for a good bite. A bad bite is a recessive trait and can still crop up if the dog is carrying the recessive gene. The dog will not do well in the show ring either.

| My girl has a underbite too and to me she is adorable. I never planned on breeding her either so that wasn't a issue for me. |

| If the bite doesn't affect her eating then she will be fine although she should never be bred.
