pregnant gal lost appetite my little gal is 54 days today. She stopped eating her dry puppy food about a week and half ago. All she has been eating is wet food mixed with chicken. now, she is down to eating only boiled chicken. Will not even eat that if anything else is mixed at all. i have tried everything. drove an hour almost to the vet today to pick up some supposedly great wet food, she wouldn't have it. Went to tracter supply and got more cans of supposedly great wet. went to krogers, bought more. bought several premium chicken breast and cooked her a huge one. She ate about two tablespoons of that. But, according to the vet, that is only okay for a couple of days and she needs dog food. i am at my wits end. Any suggestions other than mixing something with the chicken? That just will not work. i don't mind cooking her breasts everyday but she needs more. She isn't acting sick or anything. Just doesn't want anything but chicken breasts and her pet tab.. Thanks. |
When my Emilee quit eating for a few days, I put her kibble in the food processor and made crumbs and then mixed it with cottage cheese. I then started adding a few kibbles to the crumbs. Slowly her eating got back to normal and she was fine. |
You have to be careful, you don't want to upset her tummy. I have found that some Nutri-Cal fed for a day usually has them a little more willing the next day to eat. It is a touchy time. Make sure she is drinking. A scrambled egg won't hurt her either. (no butter or seasonings). You'll make through and so will she. Try not to be too nervous around her or paniky about her not eating. She'll pick up on it for sure. Please keep us updated:) |

Try the scrambled egg. Trust me, she won't starve herself to death. It is normal, totally normal that she doesn't want to eat a lot right now. They sure can make you a nervous wreck:confuse2: |

Dee will she eat some nutri-cal at all or nutri-stat even??? Sometimes this makes them get abit more hungry to eat. If she will atleast eat this with the chicken then she will get some more nutrician then plain chicken. Oh and maybe get that stuff I told you about on the phone for her food too. |

Solid Gold makes a powdered bone meal. You can sprinkle a little of that on her chicken to get some calcium in there. Will she even eat Cesars or anything. I feel your pain. Chloe frequently will go on eating strikes that last a few days at a time. I have had to learn to just wait it out. Of course, she's never been pregnant, and that adds another dimension to it. Have you tried another kibble? Lots of picky yorkies love Royal Canin. I feed Chloe puppy 33, but they have another puppy one called baby dog that is supposed to be softer kibbles. |
I have used the Flint River Ranch and Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul. The Chicken Soup is what I have used recently. I have squished a scrambled egg in it with my hand and she wasn't sure which one she decided she wanted and didn't want (because I am quite sure they have YOU in training at this time) and therefore gobbled it all down. If she isn't running a fever and is acting normal in all other areas (running, playing, drinking, requesting attention, etc), you shouldn't have anything to worry about. The pups are probably moving around quite a bit and getting ready to get into position. I will keep checking in and hope you find something that makes you both happy. |

i guess a better question, since I have tried all your suggestions and more, would have been: Do you think it is okay that chicken is all she eats. At least she is eating something |

Have you tried giving her Esbilac? It's good for pregnant and nursing moms. |
I know what you are talking about,Like Julz said some nutrical usually helps I will give some right away in the am for the one who is not eating or not eating much,it is not unusual for your mom to have a loss of appetite at this stage and we worry so much that they are not eating at all or enough. Mine love Salmon right out of the can or you can fry and make pattys out of it add a little egg and some cracker and fry.My husband laughs for when my moms are not eating I make a buffet. My mom just had 6 pups we were expecting 5 and I was worried the last week she hardly ate at all, well no wonder her tummy was so packed full she had no room for much food. She kinda went on a veggie diet the last week carrots ,apples fresh green beans, asparagus, salmon and that is about all she would eat and I tried everything and I mean everything,my vet laughed and said she was grazing he was not concerned about it for she was getting vitamins and nutrical also.Mine do not like cottage cheese or yogurt so she was put on calcium tablets here after the pups came.Mine would not touch eggs either. It is not uncommon for them to have upset tummys the last weeks also,a friend of mine raisies boxers and shows them her females have morning sickness the last week or so off and on.(vomits and will eat hardly nothing) She is feeling okay besides not eating much? How many pups are you expecting? You can always make up that pudding recipe and see if that will tempt her also, mine will not touch it until they have deliverd. |

I was chuckling reading you r post about driving for good food etc,For I have drove an hour also for some supposidly good food she would eat and have spent alot of money on foods to make then went through a flurry of making it all to have her turn her nose up at me .With almost a disgusted look on her face like yuck you want me to eat that! Two in the oven that is cute. Our x-ray showed 5 and we had 6 to our suprise which is way way to many pups fo her I have been supplementing them and all are doing good.If she only has a couple maybe she dosent need to much right now.Mine went on a grazing here a few days before she whelped only wanted veggies and fruit, watermelon green beans asparagus etc,she would not eat it out of the can it had to be fresh, she was getting puppy food and vitamins etc,but she needed something for that is all she would eat or maybe it sat better on a upset tummy also. I do know a lady whos females (boxers)have morning sickness kinda the last few weeks they do not wawt much and puke off and on? Maybe try the pudding after she whelps. They really have to be coaxed sometimes to eat, our pups are over a week old and mom still wants me to hand feed her. |
Glad to hear your girl is eating again. Is this the 4+ pounder? 2 puppies is great, sounds like everything's going well. Boy time flies I can't believe she's almost ready. Best Wishes on her whelping. I'll be out town, me and my sister won a contest and are being flown to the CMA's on Monday. But I'm bringing my laptop and knowing me, I'll be checking in on her. |
