i think we are all sick of the arguing. there has got to be a better way if only we all can put our heads together and find a solution that admin will accept.

I think the some of the breeders on here seem to think that just because agree and make up a majority they can make the rules and play yt gods. And i think they need to take feelings into consideration and not only that but consider the fact that people and breeders have different views and opinions and should not be judged for their opinions no matter how differnt from yours they may be. i posted this in another thread to about the lady who runs priceless yorkies and was breeding the teacups i also dont see the problem with the term teacup their are alot of people who want the smaller yorkies and their should be a term to describe them. I have head these puppies have more health problems and they should be taught about those instead of chased away. But i dont think all these smaller yorkies have problems mine is smaller and she is fine. and i know that just one out of how many but people dont seem to mind the extra care for these little ones if thats what they want.

YorkieShadow 05-02-2007 04:36 PM

Shaking my head. I agree with most of these post, a few I dont. If we cant even agree on this thread then I dont see much help for the others.
And I still think staying on topic on each thread will help most of the problems. but others dont see that so they are going to keep bring trouble to these threads. I know I wouldnt want to start a thread on My Yorkies say eye problem only to see people bring up some thing other then my Question about my dogs eye. Its just noones bussiness. There are enough threads on YT saying what people should and shouldnt do. so why keep bashing their other threads about it. come on people. Think.

I have only been on YT for a few months and do not post very often and am very selective about what I post b/c I have been chewed out a few times for stating my oppinion (not on the breeding but other parts). Also I originally signed on here to learn from experienced breeders right after I bought my pup. I have considered getting into breeding in a few yrs if my girl is big enough and a few other things work out right. I have not asked very many questions b/c I don't want to be chewd out for asking questions. I read the posts daily and have seen how people get attacked. I just don't want to be one of them. So thank you admin for this post. For the beginners like me I am hoping it helps.

You are 100% right, I was new here once and got offended at a response at a question I had posted as a new breeder...How do we learn if we don't ask...It's not that we're bad or anything we honestly don't know...Some now might get upset @ me for posting this and not being here in a while but U know things happen in life that we might not always be able to be here but let me tell U I COME back I LOVE this board and the answers here and questions have helped me so very very much!! Hugs and Keep up the good work U guys!! Lee, Tiffanie, Teddy and Sir. Galahad :aimeeyork

I am so appalled at the responses given in this section I actually feel like I need to hover over the new members who are asking LEGITIMATE questions so they don't get trampled onby some of the members here. I really hate feeling this way and I feel really sorry for the new members who have to read some of the comments here.

This forum is an educational community but how can people learn if they don't ask questions? And how can those questions be answered if most of the responses are full of sarcasm, rudeness, and attitude?

If you are not planning on responding to the poster's questions/comments then move on to another section. If you have the knowledge to reply please do. Even those of us who are not breeders enjoy the opportunity to learn.

I was attacked on this board. And, I was shocked.

Someone posted a pic of a pup, I viewed the pic WITH MY EYES (um, not hers) and she posted in the thread that I WAS WRONG.

I then PMd her and it turned into the nastiest experience I have ever had on a forum. She simply just refused the fact that I could have an opinion about WHAT I SAW. No matter what I said about "having an opinion", she just came back with "you're wrong".

I hope people read their posts before they hit submit. Opinions are fine, mine is my own. You can respectfully disagree.

When you disrespectfully disagree, you alienate and instigate. The potential for an educational experience disintegrates.

I wonder what that particular breeder thread (w/ all the attacks) could've turned into had she not been crucified? I wonder if she'd been more gently treated if it could've resulted in an informative, reflective exchange of ideas for all - isn't that the intent of this board?

(attacking a breeder essentially sends them into defend mode, not learn mode; this doesn't achieve the original intent - which was to protect the pups and the breeding females)

Bah! It should have read:

If this is about the long forgotten spat you and I had and then apologized to each other about. I am not a moderator. I wouldn't wish that job on my worst enemy. Kind of sounds like our little tiff in a way and in another not.

:bravo: EXCELLENT post Kim and thank you!   Sometimes I think the members here forget that some people really just DO NOT know some things...and how else are they supposed to learn IF THEY DON'T ASK? A question that may seem silly to those who know alot about Yorkies may seem like a perfectly reasonable question to someone who knows hardly anything at all. Not EVERYONE is completely "educated" on everything. People DO have to learn.

Thanks for such a great post Kim!

I personally don't post in "certain" threads because I can tell from the O.P.'s "?" that it may get ugly...I like the different responses the poster gets from people who have "been there-done that"...it's great that there is this varied wealth of knowledge available on here....I like the fact that there is no "cookie cutter" answers at times...every one has their own value system & their own comfort level... what works for one won't work for another...it's for that very reason that some of these threads get heated, how ironic is that...sometimes in a post the tone sounds accusatory, that just sets up the defenses & nothing productive is accomplished... too bad for that...I don't have a problem w/ a poster asking something that deviates from the original "?", if it's an important point & is asked w/ out the attitude.....Assumptions are another large reason for nasty threads, a "?" should be asked first if there's some concern about an issue, it might avoid some unnecessary hurt feeling & anger.....

I don't see how starting a new thread about something that we see wrong is going to ever help because what's the difference in posting in the original vs a new one ??

with regards to certain red flags regarding breeding practices.... When the day comes that no one speaks out for those poor tiny girls who are far too small or old to be bred, then there is no point of even reading anymore. Someone has to speak for them, or those that don't know any better will think it's ok to do this kind of thing.

I think if it's worded well, people can offer help and advise and in some cases maybe someone will actually listen to them... but the sad reality is - people are going to do exactly what they want to do whether it be wrong or not. If no one ever says a word - how will the next person know what constitutes good vs bad breeding practices ???

I agree no one should be rude but I also think people will start keeping their feelings to themselves for fear of being attacked and that may not be good for the yorkies in the bigger picture.

I agree.

I wasn't sure if I should post my opinion or not since it varies from most here but here goes.

I see a lot of so called breeders come on here and mention that they engage in the most horrible breeding practices. I have seen them talk about breeding their female every cycle, breeding older females, breeding 3 lb females, and the list goes on. I would expect nothing less than for the reputable breeders on here to question these practices. Part of being a reputable breeder is a love for the breed and no one could read these posts without saying something.

A lot of people read these threads, not just breeders but those who are thinking of breeding and those who are looking to buy. They learn from the responses to these posts. What would they learn if a breeder posted that they let their pups go home at 6 weeks (for example) and no one said anything? They would learn that this is a safe and acceptable practice.

To use a recent example, a breeder recently came on here and mentioned that she was going to breed an 8 yr old female who was around 3 lbs. Some of the others on here questioned that and rightly so. I hope that anyone thinking of buying a pup from her reads those posts and thinks twice. Granted some of those posts did get a bit rude but as for those breeders that questioned her methods, I applaud them for it. I hope that the breeder in question will now chose to research her decisions and change her practices because she obviously loves her females very much.

That being said, I do not think that anyone should respond to a post in a rude manner or engage in name calling and I have seen it get out of hand and the OP of a thread becoming defensive. However, I think that the only reason this happens is from the passion that everyone feels about these dogs and the strong emotions that are involved. What I would really hate to see, is this board becoming nothing but a love fest for anyone who just wants to get a male and female together instead of being an educational tool.

Sorry for the long post. I am not a breeder but I did grow up in a breeder home and I have done over 79 rescues. Many of my rescues are the result of an irreputable breeder or one that didn't do their research and I just feel really strongly about the issue of education for the breeder and the buyer.

This is an excellent post. Yes, opinions vary on many issues...but there are basic principles of right and wrong. If experienced, reputable breeders cannot point out issues that should be addressed, the educational aspects of this site will diminish. Pm's only benefit the recipient. Many people read here without posting and hopefully learn about things they would not be aware of otherwise. I did not learn what I know from someone patting me on the head and telling me only what I wanted to hear...thank goodness.

There is a big difference between educating and trying to ruin someone's reputation. Sometimes the mean spiritedness goes a bit too far and people really get hurt. Anyone can get on here and say anything about someone and they are not held accountable for it. No proof is required to back up the accusations that are made and no moderation is available to resolve issues. Because of one spiteful person a lifelong dream can be shattered. Please be careful before you hit that submit button, real lives with real feelings are behind every post. Because someone I respect has been deeply hurt by the lies that have been posted about her on this forum I no longer wish to be a member. Thank you to those who have taught me and supported me such as Mardelin and others, I hope to someday meet you in the showring. There are many roses among the thorns and I shall miss you.
