But, getting a companion yorkie from me is not that difficult. And not that difficult from the show breeders I know. Yes, potential families must be prescreened, just to insure that my puppies are going to the best possible homes. |
Don't mean to be grumpy but I wish those of you that are aware of things would just tell us. You don't have to defame anyone just a simple "I wasn't happy with my dealings with XYZYorkies" would let us know you aren't recommending that breeder. It really isn't a lot of help to know there are unreliable show breeders if we don't know who they are. :( Also, if there are some you are happy with, that would also be nice to know. It doesn't really help the rest of us if you pm one member with the name of one of the best in the country that lives here in TX. I'd like to know who they are too. I don't think I'm in the market right now but it would sure be nice to know whose dogs to keep my eye on "just in case".:) |

You aren't hijacking the thread, just providing education, based on what happened to you.....which is wonderful, it helps others. |
Oh its ok :) I have enjoyed reading everyones responses. I just need to find a good breeder for my baby :) |

I meant prefer not to see their kennel or their names on Open Forums |
I agree with Mary. You have to be so careful about mentioning names on a public forum. Sometimes things aren't what they seem or are not quite resolved yet. A reputation is a priceless thing and should not be bandied about wrecklessly. I think the lesson that Barb and I would both stress through our experience is to always get a written contract no matter whether you are purchasing from a show breeder or hobby breeder. The spoken word sounds nice to the ear at the moment but the written word will let you sleep at night. |
Tammy, I do understand that so many of us are in a hurry to get started and can be swayed by someone talking the talk, but don't walk the walk.......all we want is that baby in the ring or that baby to take home. Some breeders are counting on the fact that you've fallen in love and aren't really listening. Sad, but true....especially with these yorkies that so readily work into our hearts. And let me add contracts are great, but they are only as good as the 2 that are signing it......trust your breeder, build a bond. Remember when you've found a breeder you aren't just buying a dog you're buying a relationship. |

I would also like to add just because a dog is registered with AKC does not mean it meets the YTCA standard.. |

The nice thing about getting everything in writing is that if it becomes necessary one can go to court to enforce the contract. Without that peice of paper it's just hearsay and very hard to enforce. With some people integrity seems to come and go and the internet has made everyone more vulnerable. It's so very convenient to purchase a dog on line and have it shipped to you, especially if you live somewhere that is rather isolated. It also makes it easier to be taken. When buying a dog sight unseen you must beware. You are right in that AKC registration only says that the evidence indicates that the dog is purebred. It does not indicate that it even looks like the breed that it is supposed to be or is healthy or of good temperment. The breeder that you purchase your dog from should be considered your breeder for that dogs life but not everyone does business that way. |

The word Integrity is bantered around so much......but, Integrity, Etics and Honesty is not something that can be taught. You either have it or you don't. |

Ok..... I have a boxer that came from registered parents but I did not register him. I had no plans to breed him therefore it wasnt necessary. However he has had some pups and they were just as healthy as they would have been had they had been able to be registered. Great purebred boxers. IMO... if you are happy with the breeder and everything meets your standards then I think you should go for it....JMO Good luck, Jennifer |

both my yorkies dont have papers, and I really dont care, I dont love them any less! I say if you truly want a yorkie and this yorkie is going to be part of your loving family, more than just your DOG than as long as you see the parents and where the yorkie lives, had all the shots that they need before they go home, and was no less than the 12 weeks I say its o.k. But thats what I feel, you love your furbabies no what they have or dont have. :) Remember they show you love no matter what kind of day your having, the love is always in their eyes!:aimeeyork |

Ok, I got a reply from the breeder telling me why it isn't papered. Apparently she was called to rescue this pup that was wandering the streets and got hit by a car. She took her in as her own. Any more thoughts??? :) |
:aimeeyork I would first question why she just was not up front w/this information. If I was you I would just hold out and wait it is not worth the risk of what it would cost you. I found a reputable breeder by calling a bunch of local vets and dog groomers and asking if they knew of any. A lot of them did. Good luck w/what ever you decide. |
My thoughts are how much risk do you want to take buying a puppy that you dont know what the background on the parents is. If you are getting it for a steal then maybe I would think about it, but if she is charging the same as a good puppy that you know comes from good breeding stock, then I think I would pass if it were me. There are just too many things that can go wrong with a yorkie. |
