We Are Having Puppies Right Now Lily just gave birth to 3 of the pups. She was in full on labor today and she has handled it like a champ! So far, so good. We have 2 more to go. Question: She is taking care of the umbilical cord on her own. What do we do with the little stumps left behind? Leave them or cut them? Keep your fingers crossed all keeps going smoothly for her. |
Congratulations and good luck with the 2 left to come! Glad everything's going well. |
OOOOOHHHHH babieeeeeesssss. Congradulations |

Question: She is taking care of the umbilical cord on her own. What do we do with the little stumps left behind? Leave them or cut them? If mom is taking care of them, you leave the "little stumps' alone. do not cut them. Don't bother them at all. they will dry up and fall off in a couple of days. mom knows what she is doing. congratulations. |
She has 2 more to go, but nothing yet. I have read different things and need this clarified: She is going on almost an hour since having the 3rd pup. How long between pups before I call the vet? 1 hour or 2 hours? |
Oh my goodness, that is so exciting!! Keep us posted and can't wait to see pics!! :D |

Just curious - If mother does not take care of umbilical cord then what? |
ok, here comes number 4. |

you cut tie/clamp and cut. I prefer this as it gives you better control on where to cut. Less chance for umbilical hernias, mother chewing down to far...etc. |

Oh I see - Thanks |
congratulations:) |
congrats on the babies. i hope mommy is doing well |
All 5 have been born okay. YAY!!! How can you tell if they're a boy or girl? They all look the same. And, how can we weight them and be able to tell them apart from each other??? I mean, i know how to weight them but again, they all look alike! |
Ok, we are figuring out which one are boys and girls right now. I *think* we have 4 boys and one girl. That would xplain why we couldn't tell the difference! haha :) When are we able to touch the pups with our bare hands? |

The boys will have a little lump on their tummy just below their umbilical cord, where as the girls will be closer to their rear. Hope that makes sense. I know yorkies are much more tiny that labs when born. I've seen a litter of labs but never a litter of yorkies. Congratulations!! |

3 Attachment(s) It's Puppy Mania over here! Man, they poop a LOT! hahaha Anyway, we weighed them just now and this is what we got: 2 boys = 4 oz. 1 boy = 5 oz. 1 big boy = 6 oz. 1 girl = 5 oz. Now, they all look so much alike I have no idea how we are to tell them apart when we weigh them tomorrow so.........anyone have some ideas to help us tell them apart??? here's a few pics for now.... will try to get better ones later when things die down some. |
