Help? please? Hi, My yorkie is in her second pregnacy and she has double the amount she had last time (she had 2 last time) She did not show any signs of labor or anything the first time and she had them at around 3 in the morning. My mother gave her a bath around noon today and now her milk dropped. I know this is hard to believe but my mom and I think we heard a little squeak from her stomach and it was not her, it sounded like a puppy. But what I am really wanting to know is what are the signs of her going into labor? |
Have you been taking her temperature? It should be around 100-101. When it drops to around 99-98 you have about 24 hrs. before she goes into stage 2 labor. Some of the other signs of impending labor are: nesting, refusal to eat, and loss of mucus plug. The pup would not have cryed as it has yet to take it's first breath. Good luck with your whelping! |
Sending good wishes your way - if you are in doubt, please call your vet!! |

Take her temp often, 4 times a day. Some have their temp fluxuate for a few days....up and down. One thing that I have noticed in my line....in 1st stage labor...they get a stupid look on their face....kind of blank and staring off into space...... |
Thank you all! Thanks for all the responses and your help! I checked her temp again this morning and it is 99.7. I am going to monitor her and all that good stuff. Nail clipping her is not an option, she will not let us near her with the nail clippers lol but that is another story. Her mate is acting strange too. He is cowering away from us when we try to show him attention. Maybe she yelled at him? |
Still no pups yet well her temp is below 101 it keeps jumping from 98.5 to like 99.7 so it should be any day now right? |

Yep!.....How many times was she bred and on what days? Should stay down about 12 - 24 hours....then you know her time is near. |

well the thing is, we never checked her temp on her first pregnancy, I heard about this site not too long ago. She had the pups the first time in the middle of the night while we were sleeping and she did not make a sound when she was having them. I am just worried about her having 4 pups, she is so little |

Now Tami, you know I have my own Ann Seranne a phone call away....Naw just kidding, but remember I do have Lee. Good luck.... |

I panicked with Go-Go & Charmer's last litter....they were only 3 but, gaining so quickly, I got frightened for mom.....she just had a wonderful milk bar....but, I did start supplementing them at 3 weeks of age... |
2 Attachment(s) GizzieChewy - what weight is your pregnant female normally ? Just wondering as mine is day41, and she is small too. This is her first litter, and I think she only has 1 larger and possibly 1 smaller pup. ;) I know how you feel, but thankfully Tammy is not big so far - she is more wide, than balloon-like. (see pics of pregnant Tammy taken last few days.) :animal-pa Debra x x x |

still no little uns yet well checked her temp 4 times yesterday and it was bouncing from 98.7 to 99.7. Today I checked her temp and it was 100.1. I am really anxious for her to have her children before I return to work. I want to be there if she has any difficulties |
Puppy watch :) I bet she'll have them Really soon :) Good luck !!!!!;) |
We will have puppies later on tonight! I took her temp this morning and it was 98.8 and again like 5 minutes ago and it is 98.8. We will have some action tonight I will keep you guys posted! |
:cheer: :cheer: Puppies :cheer: :cheer: Ok, stay calm, and she will be calm too;) it just might be a long night. Hugs to Mom, and best of luck too ;) ;) ;) :hearts-xx (camera ready?) :D |
Camera is ready:) Camera and I are ready for tonight, I also have some pics of her tummy, she looks like she is ready to burst lol She weighs around 10-13 pounds. For some reason the vet did not weigh her when we took her for the sonogram. Is there any suggestions you guys have when the pups are born to tell them apart without having to turn them upside down? |
Oh, hey, someone made a wonderful suggestion after my last litter was a couple of weeks old and it wouldn't have been any use to me. LOL Use a permanent marker on their tummies. Number them or alphabetize them. For myself none of them are ever exactly the same so I just look them over very carefully and write down the differences. The next litter I have I will use the marker cause I think that just makes it so much easier. Sylvia |
How exciting!!! Please keep us posted on the puppies...can't wait to see pictures. :) Tammy |
I have thought I heard little meows before when I have taken in a stray pregnant cat. We all cant be crazy, can we  LOL. I know I have a very strong maternal instint so possibly its telepathy or does that even sound crazier, lol. Good luck |

Maybe what you all are hearing is the mom's making little noises. Sylvia |

Hi. I would like to ask the few of you who said you work, how much time do you take off when you have the puppies normally? When do you go back and how does that work out with little puppies?? If you dont mind sharing with me please. I am planning my first litter soon and am trying to get an idea of how much time to take off. |

I don't work, but maybe I can address this....the first two weeks after the whelping are the most crucial in a puppy's young life and that of the mother...monitoring and taking care of them is pretty much around the clock. Mothers have to be monitored to make sure that they are healthy and eating enough to supply milk. Even at weaning time and and when they're eating you must make sure puppies are getting at least 5 meals a day. In actuality I don't get much sleep the 1st month. |
I would use my vacation time so I can spend time with the little uns |
