Trouble Mating I have two Yorkshire Terriers that are 10 and 9 months old. My female dog is in heat for the first time and my family wants to breed them. My male is going crazy and is mounting her every chance he gets. The problem is that they aren't "locking" or "tieing". What can I do to get them to lock or tie? |
Your babies are too young!!!! Your not suposed to breed your girl until her 2nd heat at the soonest. Its way too early. Lots could happen with her being so young. Please reconcider. She needs time to grow, she's still a baby. If you have questions, I'd gladly answer anything you may need to know. You can PM me anytime ! Good luck and WELCOME to YT ! |
I would suspect that it may very well have to do with the fact that they are a bit too young to be bred at this point. You should wait until they are both older...especially in the case of your female. Breeding before she is fully matured is only asking for some serious issues. In addition to not being fully matured adults, they are not yet at an age where you can even determine if they SHOULD be bred. My advice would be to wait until the next heat, examine if they represent good breeding stock, and then try again.:) And welcome to YT!:) |

What are you thinking of anyway????????? You trying to kill that female Yorkie??????? Breeding her on her first heat is totally irresponsible!!!!!! I don't know why people don't do their studies on dogs and breeding before undertaking such an expensive and dangerous undertaking. Get her spayed and him neutered. Please read this: http://www.itb.it/canaan/icdca/Breeder./facts.htm |

Mating Well...my family and I are just letting them mate naturally. We aren't forcing them to mate when they're too young because we want to sell the puppies or anything like that. We would keep the puppies as pets. I was just wondering if there was something wrong with the girl or boy because they aren't locking or tieing. If they aren't locking because they are to young, then we'll wait when they get older. Thanks for all your help. :) |

Please keep them seperated....you are going to kill your female.....if you allow this breeding to take place.....remember they do not have to have a tie for her to concieve. |

Look at it this way, there is so much good information you can get from this site and the people here who have been through whelps countless times, when and if you do decide it is the right time for them, you have the opportunity to be so much more prepared.:) You definately won't be sorry you took the time to reasearch first. |
Please listen to Mardelin . She has helped me. You do not want to chance losing your female. It CAN happen. I almost lost one before for other reasons, but it CAN happen. Please keep them seperated!!! |
breeding Just because a bitch comes into season as young as yours, does not mean they should be bred...owning animals is a responsibility..dogs depend on us to do what is best for them. Contact a vet and prepare for a litter, they will probably figure it out at some point, most do. Since you are dterminend to breed your young bitch, please learn all you can to help her and the potential litter to survive. |
