Question about pricing I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this thread but here it goes........ I am new to this and need help on pricing puppies. I know a lot different circumstances go into this and I'm not sure if I'm pricing fair, too high, or too low. I live in Indiana, Mom is 5.25lbs, Dad is 3.5lbs, Both are Blue and Gold, I have had both tested for health and both are clear, I didn't breed for a "miro teenie tiny tcup" puppy BUT my puppies will be small 3-4lb range (according to the growth chart). So therefore the females will be sold with limited registration and males will be negotiable. This is my first time so I'm not trying to get "top dollar" or trying to decieve people into thinking I'v been doing this for years. My female is 3 and a half years old, and I did a lot of research before I got her and before I bred her. My dogs do not have Champion blood lines. I am not going to ship but, I am willing to transport. My father-in-law lives in Sarasota, FL and we travel there quite often and I am willing to bring them to the buyer anywhere between here and there. With that being said, my pricing is as follows: If you come to pick them up, Females $1000.00 Males $850......If I transport them Females $1200-$1500 and Males $1050-$1300 depending on how close you are. I'm not looking to be "bashed" just want honest oppinions. If you think that's fair, too much, or not enough. I'm just afraid of not being enough and some scum bag, buying one and selling for much higher price to "make a quick buck" Thanks for your help! |

Write up a contract that they are not to be bought for resell or for sale in a pet shop etc. I think for pet quality your prices are fair. You do need a contract and hold your papers until the spay/neuter report from the vet has been sent back to you. Best of Luck Juzme:aimeeyork |
Just a couple more questions... :) Are they AKC? Are you giving a 1 yr congenital guarantee? |
Yes, they are AKC and yes I am going to give a 1 year guarantee |
I am not a breeder but do think your pricing is fair. Definitely draw up a good contract. Good luck!!!! |
Pricing seems to be fair to me, given AKC, guarantee, etc. Hope you find them great homes! |
I try to set a price that will offset my out of pocket costs as much as possible--vaccinations, medical care (including pre-natal for the mother) time, food, supplies...geez the list goes on and on. I also try to stay with what prices in the area are. I don't want to be the bottom because my opinion is the millers and people out to get hte cheapest Yorkie they can find will be calling.:) You're prices are just that YOU'RE prices....and NO, they do not seem unreasonable to me. |
Did I miss something? Who are the Millers? I live in Illinois, right next to you. Should I be worried about them knocking on my door for my puppies too? |
We do things different here. It is our blessing. We select . |
New Pricing What Do You Think....Still fair??? Ok, I had this brought to my attention and I wanted to know what you think?? The males and females sold with limited registration should be the same price because neither can reproduce (which makes since). And the males with open registration should be higher since they can and propably will be studed. Also I think you are right about the millers and "cheep yorkie" people I don't want the lowest prices just to sell them "quick" to unreliable and irresponsable people. Thus, Here are the prices...what do you think? If they come and get them $1000. m/f limited registration $1500. male open registration If I transport them $1200-$1500 m/f limited registration $1700-$1900 male open registration Still Fair??? |
Where do you live in Indiana ? I live there too ! Lot more than I sell them for ! 800 Female- 500-700 male. That,s limited.100 more for full depending on who it is'. good luck. lily |
I'm not a breeder, but I wouldn't pay $1000 for limited registration. I payed $700 for my boy with open registration and he has champ bloodlines (his gp's). I also did a lot of looking around for the best possible price w/ the list of things i was looking for. I'm not the millers, and i don't think i'll ever breed him, but I just like knowing that i can if i want to (also because I don't believe in neutering). But also, I do have to say that in comparison to what I've seen, your prices are on average w/ everyone elses. It's all up to the people on what they're willing to pay, whether they buy the dog for showing, breeding, or just for a pet. BTW your babies are gorgeous! |

Thanks for all of your help! |
price $850 to $1000 sounds fair for a healthy, guaranteed puppy. |
Here's the dreaded size question...Do you charge less, more, the same for smaller/bigger guesstimated adult size??? |
Quote:
I wasn't charging more for smaller ones, I was pricing less for an bigger, off standard one. Few seemed to grasp that concept though. They cost the same to raise... You're really screwed and going to be cast in a bad light no matter which way you go here--especially since you can never really estimate the weight. |
prices If someone asks me for a tiny, breed/show quality then it is more..but they can take it to the bank that it will be exactly what I say it is, so no money is wasted. A pup who is 2 pounds at 8 weeks is not going to be a tiny...even though its litter mates are 4 pound at the same age..and selling a show pup under 6 months is a real dicy game. |
Tweek Ok I just want to get this right before I place an ad. How's this sound? $1000. m/f limited reg $1200. male open reg Transport $1200-$1500 m/f limited reg. $1400-$1600 male open reg. I think this sounds good and meets a fair middle. I think anyway:) Just trying to "practice" on you all before I do the real thing! lol Who knows, I may just end up keeping all of them!:p J/K husband would kill me. |
In my personal opinion I think 950 or 900 seems better than 1000... but with that said they're YOUR babies and really you should price them at whatever you feel comfortable with. Just because you're not as experienced doesn't mean you won't have quality pups and that's worth the money :) Good luck w/it! :) |

Oh no, that's not my ad layout! I was just asking how to set my prices and if you all thought they were fair, too low, or too high. I've just been adjusting them throughout the thread according to the advice I've been getting, you just must have caught a later post?? |

I am not a breeder but, if I can be honest. I feel the prices of your males is a little high This is JMO though. |
In my opinion there should not be a difference in price between a male and a female. The price should be set according to the quality of an animal ( show quality or pet quality). What do U guys think about that?:) |
