Line Breeding question
 
I'm looking at a pup from my breeder who has the same dad as my male. Different mothers.
Could I breed this female to my male???

I wouldn't simply because they ARE still half siblings....Look at it this way...My parents both divorced, remarried other people, and had more kids. I wouldn't be with my brother even though we have different mom's because we share the same dad.

Mine are half brother and sister same dad different moms and I wouldnt breed them

NO, this is not line breeding, it is inbreeding.

Too close; what you're looking at is inbreeding....the most experienced of breeders would be leary to attempt the breeding. While it could give you quick insight to your good qualities, it also gives you insight to the worst qualities you may have.

Thanks, I'm not doing it...just asking. I do not know anything on inbreeding nor line breeding, and I don't think I would ever want to do that. I already knew the answer but I like to throw it on here to hear others opinions.

Thank you! Yes I would never want to take that risk and even though I know its done...it just doesn't seem right to me. Thanks!!!

There is a website: Dr. Carmen Batagllia (think that's how it's spelled) He's written some great stuff on gentics and breeding. How to breed a better dog for one. He's got some wonderful info on his website. If you haven't already, you might want to take a look.

I read that breeding close lines is acceptable to better your line. I have always called that imbreeding, but I guess it is referred to as line breeding now. Its soyou can try to keep a more predictable look & size. I wouldbt do it. I havent researched alot on it, I think its gross. I sometimes wonder if thats why people have dogs w/strange behavior problem, like rolling in their poo. When I hear things like that I think imbred. It may be a cute dog, but something isnt right. Well I shared my 2cents but I'm not very educated on the subject.

No, line breeding is not the same as inbreeding. yes, some VERY experienced breeders INBREED to better their line but it is a chance they take because there is a huge chance that you will get more of the bad genes coming out than the good. EX. Father to daughter is inbreeding, Father to Grandaughter is called line breeding becausee it skips a generation.

what about this is this imbreeding or line breeding if the grandfather to the sire is the father of the dam? so the sire and dam would be daughter and grandson of this one male?

The term "linebreeding" was invented to justify "acceptable" inbreeding. I like linebreeding myself...
The closest inbreeding is.....
Father/daughter or mother/son..followed closely by full siblings, followed by half sibs and grandparents to grandchild..last are first cousins, uncle/niece aunt/nephew...but we tend to use the term linebreeding to describe other then father/daughter, mother/son, full and half sibs..BUT the genetist does not agree..to them all these breeding are considered inbreeding...

I like the saying..."linebreeding is inbreeding that worked and inbreeding is linebreeding that did not work.."...
