the babies are doing fine... getting bigger and gaining weight.. They are gorgeous |
We're having our babies soon too! We have been reading & re-reading this post as we pretty much have the same story - timing wise. My Sam n Samantha first got together on Dec 15th and it lasted a week. Needless to say, she got pregnant & we are expecting 3 babies, according to the xray we had on Feb 3rd. We do have a lot of questions and it seems that most of them were answered already by similar questions from other YT members, so we will not ask them again. We do have some concerns though as we somehow broke the big no-no on breeding. We did not intend it to happen this soon, but it already happened. So for now, we just have to follow the flow. Samantha is now a 14 month old9 lbs healthy girl (according to the vet) while Sam is a 5 lb boy who will turn 2 in April (also healthy). We understand they are still too young to breed. We are not breeding for business purposes, all our babies will be staying within our family. Needless to say, our family members are fighting over the unborned puppies right now. So anyway, we took a half day off work today as it seems like Samantha is ready to whelp. We may need help & support, thus this long & winded post is here. We called our vet for heads up, she said we should be fine on our own but we insisted on getting an emergency # as their hospital is closed at 6pm today. But. considering that it's valentines today, she might have a date or something, and may not want to answer if we call. We are ready wth the supplies, thank you for all those who contributed to the list. Thank you also for the enormous amount of information we have gathered here. Wish us luck! |
Ohhh more babies!! Good luck and let us know how it goes..I am not very knowledgeable but will answers any questions I can..good luck!! Dawn |
How long does it take between puppies? I seem to have forgotten what I have read as everything happened so quickly. At 4am today, we took her temp and the reading was 98.6, then at 7am & 10am, it remained at 98.2. She started really getting restless at noon and screamed one loud at 2:40p and was all done at 2:45, all by herself. Opps, never mind, another one is coming out right now.... no scream anymore.... brb |
Oh... tell me what happen last... Did she have all three? Are they ok? I hope so... send us pictures... I'm glad all my information helped you!!!! Enjoy your babies.... |
Congratualtions on your litter. Sorry to hear you lost your little boy, though!:( Have fun with them, they will grow so fast!!! |

We ended up with 3 puppies, 2 boys and a girl. The smallest one is 4.55 oz boy, followed by a 5.75 oz girl, and a 5.45 oz boy. Today, we weighed them again and it looks like the first born gained a little weight (he's gotta be, he's been nursng since he came out of her) as he is now a 4.6 oz, while the other two looks like they lost a little bit, which we figured is acceptable accordng to other posts I've read here, the girl is now 5.4 oz while the youngest is 5.2 oz. We are concerned as Samantha hasn't pooped yet, but she did pee a lot and her appetite is back to normal, meaning she eats when we feed her. She is a very good mother and I'd say very doting and protective, but she doesn't get mad at us f we touch them for weighing, she just wants to make sure that we don't hold them long and she watches closely when we weigh them. She keeps on licking them, we guess to stimulate ther little bodies so they can pee & poo, which they have done quite a bit already. We called our vet and she said if Samantha does not do her deeds yet (poopie deeds) until tomorrow then we should take her to the vet. We were wonderng if there is something we can administer to her so she goes naturally. We figured she is probably still tired from all those pushng and what not. We are worried sick as she ate all that came out of her (except the puppies of course) but the vet said that was fine. The puppies are super active, we feel sorry for Samantha as she can't seem to get enough rest. We thought they should be 90% resting, but they're not, they're 90% nursing :) |
Congratulations on all the babies!!! |
Wow more babies:) Thanks for joining in on this post, I love to make suggestions thru the research I have done but sometimes its the same thing over & over so you will see people posting "search other threads" like my fingers are falling off, lol. Glad she had them all easy & yes animals will eat the after birth, It is a natural instict & has alot of vitamins. They really dont need it & its gross but wont hurt them at all. I'm glad they came out ok & seemed fairly close between births, so less worry about complications. Keep us posted & hopefully this thread will help other new moms. Wonder if I'll ever stop being such a chicken & get a girl to breed. I get to attached & just cant-I've already decided I will have to use a stud service because I dont want any oopsies w/having a stud pet at home. Well I'm so happy for both families, Keep us posted:) |
