Was I wrong to say no? Ok so here is the deal. I had a lady ask me to breed my Daisy with her male when a friend of mine told her she (Daisy) was in heat again. Now here is where I said no and why: Her male is a BEAUTIFUL SHOW DOG, however he is 12 years old! I talked it over with my vet because I was very uncomfortable with his age. My vet told me my feelings were right on that you should not breed a small breed dog after 7 and your pushing it at 8 years of age. When I told the lady no she got furious at me and told me all she wants is one healthy pup of his off spring out of the litter and she will pay to put the rest down! I could not believe what I was hearing from her! I would not want to put a pups life in danger let alone my Daisy knowing the risk involved in her breeding with my Max, let alone anyone elses dog! So what is y'alls take on the age in breeding? what age do you stop breeding your males, and why? My folks stopped breeding thier males after 7 years old. thanks for letting me talk it out here! |
Did I read that correctly? Did you say she would pay to put the rest of the pups to sleep after she got her one? |

OMG that has no manners at all. how dare she! I think I would have said more than NO to her. GOOD for you:thumbup: |

And I'm not a breeder, but to answer your question, NO I don't think you were wrong at all to tell her know. Your first concern should be the health of your girl, then the health of your girl's pups... and no where in your list of concerns would be her desire to have an offspring of her male. |
wow...the things people say when they're mad :( :( I would stay way away from that woman if I were you. HER wants are taking precedence over common sense and decency ...what a horrible thing for her to say to you - and good for you walking away |

But, the lady's attitude would have been enough to turn me off. So, cold..... She's your girl and you have the right to say no....after all you didn't go to her to useher stud. |
sounds like she needs to be put down i would have told her that seriuosly! who in their right mind would want to breed a dog so old and kill his pups? what a sicko she shouldn't be privilaged enough to even own a yorkie! |
WOW! That lady has problems. You made a good call to say the least. |
Ok I was thinking I did the right thing I just wanted to make sure. THAT IS WHY I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!! |
Yes you did the right thing. But dont lie. Ever. Not even on a bet. :) I mean never. :p :p |
She suggested putting the rest of the litter down to obtain one pup for herself? Wow! IMO someone like that doesn't need to be "in dogs". That's just crazy. |
Unbelievable! |
The Biewer breeders stop breeding males generally around 7 years of age. |
