Do you think you could have been just a little more nastier I just joined and to your amazement replied back. I thought this was a mature forum with people and their yorkies. But it seems as if only one voice needs to be heard and thats yours. It would be a happier world if people would not judge all for a few unreputatable breeders or ASSume that I would be lieing for her sales I posted a few pics see for your self how Beautiful my baby is.

I did not notice a date of this post as I am new here I just wanted to let people know that you can not ASSume you know everything or everyone. And to the amazment I am replying again because as a mature adult I feel it is wrong to talk about people whom you do not know and I wanted to clarify that this particular women is a kind and caring person and if it were you wouldnt you like some one to care enough to let others know of your goodness so as you are not frowned upon??:eyebrow2:

- WELCOME !! I think this is the site you are talking about. She is not far from me, over in Destin, FL. I heard there was a breeder over there breeding tiny yorkies.

She shows on her site that she is breeding at least two females that are less than 4 pounds using sires less than 3 pounds. Some of the pups look adorable but some in the client pics....although still adorable, they are losing the yorkie look (Fritz for instance -- I want to pick him up and hug him, but I can see his proportions are off).

She says some of the right things, like she is a caring breeder, but the substance is not there. One look at her health guarantee tells me it is basically useless. She does not guarantee much after 72 hours. She has a list of illnesses not covered after 72 hours. Some make sense, but others may take over 72 hours to show up. She says she does guarantee slight genetic problems only those that "make the puppy not suitable for the purpose of *family pet* until the puppy reaches one year of age." She does not pay for vet bills. Puppies must be returned to her with papers, then you can get a replacement puppy, or if none is available in 180 days, you can get money back. I like to see guarantees that allow the new owner to keep the puppy and the breeder to guarantee up to a certain amount of vet fees. I don't even mind if they are only willing to split vet fees up to a certain amount. That is still better than making you return the puppy, which most people are not going to do. I bond instantly so I can't think of taking one back!

I am not against selling pups via video if she is really as particular about new parents as she says. I just don't like putting those tiny females through breeding. I also wonder about her being inspected so many times from the AKC. Is that normal for a small breeder? She might want to get some help with the wording on her site too. Poorly worded sites always seem unprofessional to me. Maybe not a good gauge of breeding ethics and quality but it does tell me something about attention to detail.

All a superficial look at the website -- the real test would be to visit in person. Websites can be VERY misleading. A while back one of the worst puppymills around was selling from a well-put-together website that made them look like a small family-type business. Not saying this would be a mill! But you know what I mean -- look and gather information in person or at least from another trusted individual who has been onsite.

That modifier I have bolded makes it a no guarantee at all in my opinion. For example just what would qualify a "slight" genetic defect making a pup unsuitable as a pet? LS pups LP pups still can fulfill the function of a family pet.

The real eye opener is the guarantee, however there are other read flags.

The most important thing is that recommending a breeder is a serious responsibility. I myself only recommend breeders that I am personally aware of the breeding practices. Visitng a breeder as well as contacting other breeders for insight is the best option.

We all someone who 'just joined', you are probably unaware of how many times we see that happen--people who join, praise a breeder who's questionable ethics have been brought to light, and then disappear, never to be heard from again. It happens all the time, which is why many point out posts like your first one when they come along. *Maybe* 1/50 times, the person sticks around the forum and actually becomes an active member. You must be that 1/50 person, eh?

"If it were me?" Nope, impossible. I would never breed dogs that small, with 'short faces and big eyes' and market them as "true tiny." So I don't have to worry about someone "clarifying my goodness" because that will NEVER "be me." ;)

AKC comes and inspects if you breed 7 or more litters a year and they come yearly or every 18 months when you breed that much.
If you breed less litters your name goes in a "hat" and it is a lottery.
So to be inspected that much means she has at least 7 litters a year every year.
Plus to breed girls that small is irresponsible to say the least.
And not cover minor genetic problems?? What is minor and to whom is it minor. A grade 2-3 is minor yet can be painful to the dog and need surgery. So you have to give the dog back after lets say 7 months to get another pup??

Glad the newest member is happy with her pup. Did you come on the general community and say hello? Or did you just go to the breeder site and comment on a 2 year old thread. I could not have done that when I was new..but that is me.

Well hello and welcome. I'm glad that so far you have had a pleasant experience with your breeder. That is welcome news.

But ( oh my isn't there always a but), please consider, that what a breeder posts on the web as their business website, is subject to scruntiny and evaluation by the public, such business practices as they might make clear to said public.

My comments, and others was evaluating the content of what this breeder posted for all to read. Personally I don't know this breeder, other than what she posts for all to read on the internet.

It is certainly not recommended to breed females under 5lbs, health tests are recommended, quality care of the yorkies, informed breeding practices, etc.

Most here are so passionate about this beautiful breed. We love them, want to protect the breed. Many here also have a particular interest, a focus if you will with this breed. Some are really into training, or agility. Some spend countless hours volunteering in rescue, are foster moms. Some are breeders, some are exhibitors, or both:animal36. Some are really interested in all the genetics and the health of the Yorkie. Some love to photograph. The list goes on and on.

My personal hobby horse, is health, testing, educating future buyers of the health concerns of Yorkies. So I look at potential "health" guarantees with the eye to assessing if this is any kind of guarantee at all. In this case, no.

The immediate red flag to me was:

Tiniest Yorkie in the World? There was one clip she did (she has a ton) where her giant hand was petting one of her "micro" yorkies and I just cringed.
