Can anyone tell me what ROM means behind names of Champions on a pedigree?

What does register of merit mean? Sorry, I am just curious, I have a dog that has several ROM and dont know what it means.

Dont be sorry for asking :)

This is a title granted by the YTCA to dogs that have sired 10 or more Champions and to bitches that have produced 5 or more Champions.

Chrissy,

It's 6 Champions for Dogs and 3 for Bitches.

Don't feel bad Monday, I thought it was a kennel name until I noticed a few of the dogs from different breeders had it also so that is why I asked.

Hi Barb,
I, obviously, did not read the whole sentence .... saw ROM and said to myself, "I can help," and zoomed in to answer but then saw the rest of the answers .... (I had never even heard of that ...)

Not to worry ladies.....it's not well known, since it's a YTCA title and not AKC, unless you've been around for awhile or a member of YTCA you wouldn't know what it stands for. However, it is a title that is sought after. Pastoral Johnny Handsome sired over 60 Champions in the United States alone.

wow, My Louie has 23 ROMs in his pedigree but some of those are the same dog so it isnt really 23, but it looks good on paper.

You only submit paper work when the offspring has completed their Championship. And the original dog or bitch must be owned by a YTCA member

Johnny passed away a year or so ago. But, his legacy lives on.

All you have to do is provide copies of Championship Status of the get or produce and their sire and dam. Now again the Sire or Dam must be owned by a YTCA member. There are Merit awards in conformation and OB, TR, AG and Versatile

ROM is a YTCA award. In Our YTCA directory-all code of ethics and code of conduct and all other pertinent information is published there possession.

As stated in the book Only Dogs or Bitches owned and bred by YTCa members will be awarded ROM titles.

I went to the YTCA site couldnt find it can you post the link that states this please?

It's not on the YTCA site. Since this is a YTCA award, the information pertaining to the award is only available to YTCA members. We as members receive a packet of information when we are accepted into YTCA. It is also published in our directory that we receive annually.

It states
Only Dogs or Bitches owned and/or bred by YTCA members will be awarded ROM titles Dogs must have sired six or more AKC Champions. Bitches must have produced three or more AKC Champions.

Now this does not mean that the Dog of the get or Bitch of the produce must be Champions.

I know they dont have to be a champion to receive the ROM I am just curious why its exclusive to YTCA members only when there are several serious accomplished exhibitors that have bred a multitude of champions that choose not to be a member of the parent club. What makes their dogs/bitches less worthy of the title? I think the accomplishment should be celebrated for breed excellence not exclusive to the parent club members...JMHO
