Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I Have A Serious Question About Breeding Please! Ok i'm not really sure what i want to do so please don't rip me a new one!! I wanted to ask here because i know you are all very experienced and honest. First i am considering breeding Peeka he is 8 1/2 months old now i really want to have another Yorkie as calm and sweet as he is. Now i'm not sure how old they have to be for AKC to recognize the litter do you all know? Also he has no genetic defects that he would pass on. I want to learn everything i can before i make this decision, i know that he may start to mark and be aggressive and those are some of the cons i am considering. I will attach a pic if someone wants to see him and tell me what they think he is 4 lbs 4 ozs and i think he is beautiful but again i am byast lol. Please will someone give me some info on what you think?

| You really need to find a good breeder to help you, and thats not me, but he is gorgeous and maybe if you find someone that has a good genetic bitch and doesn't have any problems you could stud him out for pick of the litter...

| do you know of any girls that are near you, if so I would talk to the owner and see if they want to breed to him...but if you don't and you find someone that you really don't know check them out really good and get her pedigree and so on, because you don't want to breed that cutie pie to just anyone...

| my best advice I could give you, and I am not a breeder, though Lexie is in heat and I don't know what I want to do there, but really check them out and their pedigrees if you don't know them, cause of liver shunts and anything bad they can pass on...If you were closer we could breed Lexie and peeka and have little lexpeeks....

| I don't remember what thread I read were they advised to first get a good breeder as a mentor to guide you. Since you don't have a female yet I would get her from a breeder that you know trust and you must be very honest with them about wanting to breed her and needing a well experience breeder to guild you. This is what I would do.

| Actually Peeka is still a bit young to stud anyway. They do best if you wait until they are a year old and have reached full maturity. Breeding early can really mess with his head. As for looking for a reputable breeder, go to the Yorkshire terrier club website and they'll have a listing under breeders. Only thing is few breeders will give you pick of the litter, especially for an untried male. It's also rare to get a pup just like it's parents, things tend to skip a generation.
