If the head gets down that far the puppy is probably going to follow, but if she is having a very hard time and the puppy isn't moving out, you can help her , by gently pulling with the contractions. Placing a bit of KY around the area will help it slide out too. I am sure everything is going to be just fine, but it never hurts to be prepared

Temp is back to 99.5, which is what its been the last couple of days. She's just sleeping.

if you pull that baby by the head you be very careful. it is possible to pull the pup apart. You only pull as she has contractionss and only gently.

my husband is here today so if you have any problems jump back on here. i am going to pm you my phone number and you can talk directly with him if you have problems.

Sugar you are very correct, grasp the pup with a warm wet was cloth apply preassure (don't pull) to encourage her to push out the rest of the pup, push her legs with each contraction, this should help. If that doesn't work, then it is ok to use some KY on your gloved finger and work it around the vaginal opening while applying pressure in the direction of natural birthing. Sometimes you are able to hook a finger on the shoulders and carefully work the pup out. If the pup is presented head first and she stops pushing after the head is out, you should break the sac, dry out the mouth, and syringe the nose, apply pressure to the head without pulling and dry to work your fingers around the shoulders to help her pass that part of the pup. Don't pull on the head. Just apply pressure until you can hook the shoulder, and then you can pull when the dam is pushing.

My husband has bred and trained beagles for over thirty five years so he is a great help to me. There are times he just doesn't realize there are some differences in the breed tho. All the basic stuff is the same. he had to "pull" one of kandy's puppies. The little boy was all folded in a ball with all four feet first. he was so huge she could have never got him out and we thought he was dead but i clearedd his airways and did a few resuce breaths and now we have a real little porker of a guy. he is huge!!

Thanks everyone so much. So far nothing is happening. She's sleeping :) I will for sure jump on when the action starts. Thanks for the advice on what to do if there are problems getting this one pup out. I'm hoping I won't need to, but I like to be prepared for everything. I even re-watched all 3 whelping videos I have today for the um-teenth time.

I was watching Teri Shamnsky video and one whelp they showed they said the water sak presented and the bitch napped for two hours before anything started. Is that ok? How long can the water sak present before anything happens?
