More than one litter and ID Hi. I was wondering .. what do you all use for ID tags .. When you have more than one Litter . I have 2 litters right now. One just born and the other born on the 29th. I have never had more than one litter at a time. AKC rules say I have to have a ID on them. They are so small.. I dont know what to use! Thanks for any info

The most common method I've heard and seen is tying various colored yarn around the tail.

i have heard people putting the colored yarn around the neck. I tried it with this litter and in a few hours time, Kandyy had removed them all but one and was in the process of choking the baby to death trying to get the last one off. I fretted and fretted then took a real good look at them. They all have different markings. Easy to tell apart.

A more "permanent" and safer method is to paint toenails like one would have a red back right toenail, one would have a back left toenail, one would have a front toenail painted, etc. and then you could expand to a different color for the other litter or I also have heard of clipping an area of hair on the back right hip, left back hip, etc.

I think it would be really neat to use food coloring and dye the right front foot of each pup a different color. In the process you could also get a "paw-print" for the pup's baby book.

I tried to do the painting a toe nail thing...great idea...but more power to ya if you can do it and then easily see them I resorted to a drop of nail polish on the back of their heads...my vet loved this idea.
