Chocolate Yorkies? I have been hearing a lot about chocolate yorkies and was wondering if they are a certain breed or just a different kind of coloring? Can someone please tell me what makes them a chocolate yorkie? Thanks everyone. |
Here is a site that explains: http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/Genet...Chocolate.html |
Just a different, off standard coloring...a fluke if you will for simplicity's sake.:) |

No real regulation, no. People cannot be members of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America if they do not adhere to their Code of Ethics but I doubt that weighs heavily on their minds. It is one of those pendulum subjects for me... on one hand I don't think anyone should tell another what they can or cannot do with their dogs but on the other I would like to see better care in the selection of those dogs that are bred. Bottom line is everyone just has to make their own decisions. |

There are no known health problem in chocolates, other then what is seen in the standards ones. You just can't show a chocolate in AKC dog shows. Maybe some day they will be in a class of there own along with the Parti's and the Biewer. I don't think anyone in there right mind would breed for blues. Since blues they have so many health problems. |

Blue puppies After reading the information posted on the link above explaining chocolate and blue born yorkies and the problems a blue born puppy might encounter as they age, it sickened me when I saw one being offered for $5000.00 on Puppyfind from this breeder http://www.phippyspuppies.com. I wonder if he gives a health guarantee for this $5000.00 rare blue puppy and if he informs his buyers on all of the potential health problems this poor baby may have in its future. Very sad to see these unethical breeders advertising chocolate and blue born yorkies like they are some rare and wonderful thing to be sought after and continue to breed knowing that is what they are going to produce. |
Chocolate Yorkies I think chocolate yorkies are beautiful. I have one that is 3 years old now and I'm glad I didn't have him put to sleep like some so called expert advised. I didn't know much about them 3 years ago, but have learned much about them since then. They are not some rare breed and should not be sold as such. Mine came from two blue and gold yorkies and he was the only one. He was as healthy as the other four in the litter, but he had hazel eyes and red nose and pads. Now he has blond crest and he is chocolate or brown. He's taller than my other yorkies and is very high spirited. He likes to jump into your arms. To register them...all you need is the registration from both parents and a picture of the puppy....front and side view...different people have different opinions. We always want to ostrisize something that's different. What if we killed our kids that come out darker or different from a previous one, but you know who the daddy is? They don't have health problems outside of your regular problems that you may encounter with any yorkie. Mine has never had any serious health problems, thank god. He's really much prettier and friendlier than the rest of my yorkies and about twice the size of his father and mother. Nonetheless, I love him as much as I love the others...standard of the breed has to start somewhere...and actually before the standard of any breed....they are all mixed with something to even get a standard...People need to know what they are doing and should be careful with what they say, but you have no control over what color a puppy will be...you can come close with genetics..yy/xx..yx/xy..xx/yy..Anyway, I hope this information is helpful. If anyone has any other questions....please feel free to respond....I enjoy reading some of these posts and I frown on some of them. I don't post on a regular basis, but this chocolate yorkie thing is getting crazy. By the way...the chocolate yorkie is not that rare...but, a good reputable person, breeder, what have you is a rare find...someone who sticks behind what they breed and what they say and what they sell....someone who doesn't charge you outrageous prices because they can...someone who won't sell you a puppy regardless of how much money you have...if you're not the right person for the puppy or your home situation is not conducent to raising a puppy...you don't get one. Someone who screens a buyer or new owner as much as possible. Antyway...enough of that...talk to you guys later...do the right things...listen more...and talk a little less...it's hard to talk and listen at the same time. |
Mr. Dexter, I dont think anyone was ostrasizing chocolate yorkies at all or suggesting that they should be put down when they are born. That would be crazy to even think such a thing. The thing I dont understand is when you see these breeders selling blue ones and chocolates also for outrageous prices (4000.00-5000.00) because they say they are rare. There are those times when you do get these puppies, not because you intentionally breed for them, but because it was a fluke as another person stated. It is the times when you continue to breed them knowing that is what you are going to get or try to sell the ones you do get for $5000.00 to some unknowing person that thinks they are getting something special and rare. All puppies are special but if you are selling blue born ones knowing what kind of a painful awlful life they may have like the article mentioned just to stick $5000.00 in your greedy pocket, then that is a sad sad thing. |
