Breeding Question My question is has anyone run into the problem where the male is "ready" and wants " to breed and the female isnt interested and seems to just reject him .... or could it be she just isnt ready yet ?? any advice or thoughts would be great :) Thank you so much :) Have a good night :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
maybe she's playing hard to get? |
breeding Some bitches are easy to breed, will stand any time..others refuse the male even when they are in full heat...not all co-operate, some must be held and reassured..a few never allow a male near them...that is just the way it is...LOL It could be too early, too late...she could be scared, confused..pick one. |
If she isn't acting like she will accept him, then she probably isn't ready. Trying the next day can make all the difference. She will "flag"...put her tail way off to the side if she is ready. The heavy bleeding should have stopped. |
What day is she on in her cycle? |
if she is not flagging him, she is not ready. like the post before, what day is she on the cycle? she needs to be at least 10 days into it. it maybe a week too early. i have never known a bitch not to flag when she is ready (i am sure there are but i have never seen one) |
Is it possiable for a male to want to breed a female that's not even in heat? Kitty isn't in heat but Ace wants her so bad! He crys for her and yelps and paws the kennel to get to her. What should I do? |
Hmmmm, does he actually try and mount her when she is out of the crate?? |
Yes he mounts her and does his thing but Kitty growls at him the whole time. She keeps her tail tucked too. I just don't know what to think. I know she's not in heat. She's not swollen or have any discharge and she was in heat about 2 mos ago. |
Thank you so much for all your responses, I really apprecaite it . I dont see that she has flagged him yet, she has been in heat the last 11 days or so and i dont see that she is bleeding anymore . |
I am sure you will see a change in her attitude in the next day or two. I have never had a female that didn't mate when she was ready. |

yes....especially if he is a stud dog like my kirby. kirby is always trying to get my muffy. i can't tell you what to do b/c my muffie handles the situation and i dont have to interfere |
He's never been used as a stud dog he just turned 11 mos. old. |

Totally agree. Some females are even just plain picky with whom they will breed with. She may get nasty and mean toward one male, and then she may get flirty and cozy with another. |

Aubrey, if she's on day 12 now, she's probably going to ovulate within the next couple of days. She should start flagging, it would be ideal to have a tie every other day. Hopefully today will be the day. Once it's too late, you'll have to wait another 6 months. You could try holding her gently (she may just be hardheaded not flag at all) and see how that goes. Debbie Jensens site has alot of helpful information regarding mating. |
thank you so much, i appreciate all the advice :) I will just have to wait and see what happens in the next few days :) I will let you know, thank you so much again . |
ok well she is still rejecting him, she gets really mad him, and when we try and help them, they dont seem to lock .......he seems all ready and willing and she just wont have it |

When and If they do lock, make sure she is completely controlled. You don't want her turning on the male and attacking his face/head or trying to get away and injuring one or both of them. |
ok thank you so much again, is it normal to try and help them ? I feel like im invading them , or her i should say ... ?? |
If the female is growling I wouldn't force the issue. Have never had to before, but maybe my females are just easy. I really think the females know when the timing is right and if they are not ovulating the mating doesn't do any good anyway. The only part I play in it is keeping her calm and still after the tie. |
yeah i dont think i would ever force the issue, i think whatever happens at this point happens, i dont want to push anything on her, thank you so much everyone for all your advice and help, if anything comes to happen i will let you all know :) thanks again |
When did the red bleeding stop? Typically, ovulation occurs 3 to 5 days after that, but, of course, nothing is ever as easy as typical. |
she stopped bleeding 3 days ago, she just wont let him near her, she gets nasty toward him |
Most likely the first mating wasn't good then, but the second one could have been since sperm can live for about 48 hours. Hopefully, she'll change her attitude in the next two days. |
Typical is never typical but.. Typical breeding for all my Vets and Breeder friends as well, start breeding at day 13 after the 1st day of blood. But if there is one thing I know about Yorkie Breeding, is they are NEVER typical! ;) But honestly, you will probably be fine in a couple of days. |
thank you so much, i apprecaite everyones advice .. it seemed to be the same thing this morning- he is 100 % interested and "ready" and She just wont have it ....she gets very nasty toward him .... I just dont know:confused: |

Here's a site that explains just how hands on it can get. http://debbiejensen.com/mating.html |
thank you for the site i will be reading all of that : it seems that my male is a little shorter then she is, but not by much ..... and they dont seem to ever lock .....i try and hold her down and she doesnt get AS nasty .. but i dont see them hanging on long enough to lock even with us holding her down . |
