I'm sure if you just keep looking you can find some in your area that cost less. Good Luck |
I would look for a local breeder. My Husband was strict on how much I could spend for a yorkie. My first one I paid $600 for and he thought that was a great price. The second one was $1200 but I really wanted her and he gave in. Now that he knows so much more about the breed he would let me spend more. |

I would suggest looking for a local breeder. Maybe your husband will fall in love with the breed, too, and you can get a puppy from the breeder out in LA when you get a second yorkie. Yorkies do better in pairs anyway. They are very social animals andn really like to have a little playmate. |
Send him here !! We can talk him into it !:D :D Maybe you all can go see some yorkies and let him hold one for a bit...see how he feels and maybe he'll come around ? |
Honestly I say just do it, my mom bought a shih-tzu about 8 or 9 years ago my dad wanted no part of it but she went by herself bought her with HIS credit card lol took her home within a week that was his little girl to this day she still is. Also my boyfriend wanted nothing to do with a small dog, he saw one at PetSmart and the lady was nice enough to let us hold her and he fell in love and now I have a Yorkie that he paid 1300 for. It will all work out eventually if it was me i would just do it on my own... honestly whats he gonna do leave you because you bought a dog i dont think so...thats just my opinion though. Good Luck with getting your baby once you have one you will be so thrilled! |
puppy Get a job and earn the money yourself. I wanted a new car once..my husband said he would buy it for me in 12 months when his car was paid for..so I got a job made the payments for 12 motnhs and then he took over.. |

I got Stump for $400, he is a mix, but I still love him!! And I bet the puppies are cheaper near you. I've noticed they are a lot more expensive for the bigger cities. Average price for one in TN (well from what I've seen) is $600-$800. But my family thinks $400 was crazy! Lol. |
Take him to the pet shop My hubby would not budge on getting a yorkie or any kind of dog... WELL... I was meeting him at the mall and I went in to to pet shop just to see if they had any Yorkies, and they did and I played with him and my heart melted... I met my husband and told him I wanted him to see the dog. He said "I'll look but I am not buying a dog" Sooooo in we go, and I have the girl bring the puppy out to play, and Mike wasn't even with this puppy for 10 min and he said...OOOOKKKKKK you can get him!!!!!!!!!! Chewy was exspensive. But I jumped at the chance because it was my only chance and I knew nothing of puppy mills. Now... I am not saying go buy a pet store dog, but if you can get your hubby to just play with a yorkie you may be able to hook him. Mike hated little dogs... he swore he would not take care of this dog... well I go to get Chewy to take him out and he is gone. Not only is Mike taking him out, but he is hanging out with Chewy... letting this dog kiss his face!!!!!! I would never have guessed. he calls Chewy his little buddy!!! Just remember that there are vet bills, grooming costs, Plus all the clothes and crates, and pens...TOYS & TOYS & MORE TOYS!!!!! in the begiining it does cost a lot. But worth every penny! I'll say a little prayer for you to get a yorkie... we all should, we all know the power of prayer around here!!!!;) |
you can't put a price on unconditional love tell him that and maybe save up some of your own money! yorkies can like 13-15 years or more so if you divide that bye 1500 you get at least $115 a year now come on tell me that's not a deal!!! |
I also think you should just raise the money yourself and just go buy it. I personally would NEVER let my husband tell me how much I can spend on unconditional love and companionship :D |
I guess I'm a little old fashioned. I think it's best you wait until you and your spouse are in agreement. Don't let a dog cause (possible) friction between you two. You certainly don't want him to resent the dog. I would be patient and look for a local breeder. Be picky, and be patient. You will find a good Yorkie, pet quality (since you don't want to show) for alot less than $1,500, I would think. Good luck! |
Have you tried the shelters and rescues in your area? The adoption fee would be much less and I'm sure there are a few that would love to be carried around and kissed and hugged all day. :) |
Hi i live in va too, and i think you can fine just as precious yorkies here, there actually a lady here by the screen name promispoo that is in va and needs homes for puppies sometime in nov. give her a call at 804-965-5151 ( i think thats right) if not look her up on here. and i think hers are 1000.00. im sorry i wouldnt not pay 1500, plus travel exp to get a yorkie when there are some right here that are more affordable and just as cute. whats the difference b/w va and ca yorkie? just a lot of gas $$ or Ticket money save the extra 800.00 bucks and get the pup a playmate or all the supplies plus vet stuff that alone is 300-400.00 good luck |
my girlfriend bought me my first yorkie and i fell in love with the breed. they are sooooooooooo... smart!!! after that we now have 4 yorkies. (i have 2 in my place my mom kept the first and she has one of her own) we are looking into another little girl for her parents . She wants one for her parents being that they are older and want dog that dont drag tham around when they walk her. look around in your area... im sure that you will find a good breeder. becareful on your search being there are alot of scammers out there. best of luck to your fur baby search. |
I paid for both of my dogs myself...just put a deposit down on number three..which I will also pay for. I bet you will find one in your area with a little patience!! Good luck and let us know if you find one!! Dawn |

I also took my hubby to the petstore, though I wasn't intending to buy anything there, but just to put him in the mood! :) |
:yelrotflm Here's a different situation .... I said no, no, no for weeks/months!!! ME ... who fairly worships at the itty bitty paws of Toto?!? I am at her beck & call 24/7! Nope! Didn't want a dog of any breed .... nothing with any sort of "need". Wasn't gonna have it, end of discussion! Patrick is relentless ... if I ever kill him, his being so relentless will be my excuse! :p He finally sucked me into at least looking at pictures of them online and that's all he needed ..... the search was on! Really long story short .... several months later I found myself looking into a tiny little face that still brings tears to my eyes, she was soooo beautiful and had the most curious, intelligent look in those little black button eyes I really thought I was having a vision. Nothing could be that sweet and certainly nothing could make me feel like I would absolutely die if I couldn't have it! :) Next thing I knew .... we're driving along in my convertible and I'm laughing and telling Patrick .... "look, she pee peed on my lap and the seat is just soaked, isn't that the cutest thing?" Yep! She trapped us both and she is our absolute joy! ;) So .... my advice would be .... be relentless and hold out for what you want!! It worked on me!! :sidesplt: And, most importantly, we were in total agreement when we bought Toto. ;) |
When I got Indy I was going thru one of those lonely stages, my only child was at college and enaged, and also obligated to the Army for 4 years. I really had this urge to get something little that I could hold and snuggle with. Hubby said "NO MORE DOGS!" , not that i could blame him, we had 3 already! But none of the ones I had were truly "mine". The German Shep is DEFINITELY hubby's dog, the Golden Ret is 14 and lovable, but not a lap dog, and the Jack Russel doesn't belong to anyone but herself! She is not a cuddle dog! So, I just saved my money and bought Indy anyway. Figured it wasn't any skin off his nose since I am the one who takes care of ALL of them. Hubby was mad for a couple days, but even he couldn't resist that little furry face. So, now 1 year and a half down the road, with 2 liver shunt surgeries costing well over $3500, I am still happily married with hubby just as concerned about Indy as I am, although Indy is definitely "mama's boy". |

well he is giving me money 1800 as a gift from income tax check but he said i can buy any thing but a pet no dog or cat so i have the money just cant get him to budge  |
2 Attachment(s) then it seems that it's not about the $$$ if he gave you 1800. you need to work him in to the breed.( like what my girlfriend did to me) I love dogs and then we went around looking and she kept looking at yorkies and it just grew on me. take him around to dog parks to look and pet stores(just to look not buy!!!)they will let you handle the pups and im sure it will grow on him too. you can also spend some time together on YT and show him the pics from "MY YORKIE" section. best of luck! >>> Here are some pcs to help ..LOL! |

Same thing with my husband. For about 5 years, my kids asked us to get a puppy and my husband always found some excuse to crush their hopes. Well, I finally decided I was ready to get a puppy and take on that commitment. My youngest child was turning 10 in September so I went searching for a breeder in my area on breeders.net and found a puppy that would be ready to come home on her birthday, which was September 29th. I slowly dropped subtle hints that I wanted to get my daughter a puppy for her 10th birthday and with a few weeks of persuasion, I got my way. Hubby wasn\'t very thrilled at first, but I stood firm in my decision to get one. "Bella\'s" been with us for two weeks now and what a little cutie!! The look on my daughter\'s face when she saw her was priceless!!! Hubby\'s even warming up to her a little bit. Hang in there, stick to your guns and use your power of persuasion!!! |
