Whoa! Sorry for the welcoming committee, Kid. The second I saw the word TEACUP, I knew they were going to "Whup Up" on you. There are a lot of very nice people on here, They're all just a little "over " protective. Many, if not most, of them believe they are experts on yorkies and apparently they were born experts, because they don't remember ever "NOT" knowing all about them. I think you kind hearted, informative people are being a little harsh. She asked a question and how is she supposed to learn if she doesn't ask. You can educate without belittling, and it's really not nice to talk about her as if she can't read. Don't run off ruskeerm. they're really nice people, just a bit overzealous. My first post was about breeding too, and by the time they got through beating me up, I was sure that was the only person on the forum who wan't qualified to breed yorkies, because I was dumb enough to ask a question about it. But I'm still here, because I had a genuine desire to learn about breeding and about the breed. Hope to see more posts from you |
Oh and BTW, Welcome to YT. The friendliest yorkie forum on the net. LOL |

I was always told there are no stupid questions, if you don't know then ask. Many of you posters told her she should search the net and read books to educate herself. That was good advice, but you did it after you belittled her. Peanut, if you noticed, most of the ones that attacked her were relatively new themselves, and when I said I had been attacked, those that attacked me were also relatively new to the forum. So to be fair, we also have to give them the same curtesy and not bash them for their mistake of attacking a newbie with a quiestion. So to all of you, just to let you know, that was not a proper response. Some breeders on this forum give the impression that they themselves are the only ones intelligent enough to know what a quality yorkie looks like and therefore the only ones that are fit to breed. If you don't believe that, go back and look at some of the threads on breeding and showing. Some people believe that you should only breed if you show, others beleive that if you are breeding only for show then you are not a good yorkie owner, although you may be an excellent breeder. Some believe that you should breed only for the standards as set forth by the YTCA. Others believe that if they have a blonde or chocolate or a parti and someone elses wants one, why not breed them as long as they do not carry any health defects like the blue yorkies do. On this forum there are people at every end of the spectrum, we can try to educate others but we need to respect their beliefs also, and keep in mind that there is a slim possibility that their belief might be valid. We all agree the unhealthy yorkies should not be bred, but not every yorkie with a genetic defect is unhealthy. There is a whole lot greater demand for pet yorkies than there fis for show yorkies. Sorry that got so long. I'm, a wtriter, that's what I do, I write. |
Welcome to YT! I hope you stick around!!! I can't wait to see pics of your furbabies:) |
Sorry that got so long. I'm, a wtriter, that's what I do, I write.[/QUOTE] And very well writen it was!!! Thanks, Jeannie. As with anything in life, the minute you think you know it all is when you miss SOOOO much. Behind every door you open are ten more, and ten more behind each of them and on and on. Isn't it great? ;) |
Oh please...what a joke, honestly. I never claimed to be an expert, nor have I ever claimed to "know-it-all" (even though I seem to be gaining that reputation, if you know what I mean...hi;) ) Yes, I am still green in the breeding game and never claimed to be otherwise. I look back and don't really see where I normally go around giving "bad" advice...if I have, please point it out. If there is a rule that says, "Only contribute and give answers if you have been breeding XXX number of years.." please, I must have missed it. Again, this seems to be a case where no one can find anything wrong with WHAT I said, just HOW I said it.:( I am so sorry if I don't sugar coat answers and try to keep from hurting people's feelings. I guess if someone asks about breeding their tiny or some of the stuff seen on here that I honestly thinkMUST be baiting half the time, anyone w/ the guts to say, "hey, maybe THIS isn't the best idea..." should just step back because God forbid we should come across as rude and discourage it... Honestly, I'd laugh if the morals I see displayed here weren't so jacked up. :D |

The pet yorkie/show yorkie comment is the reason people feel validated breeding the poor quality specimens we see abounding everywhere to the point that there are oodles of threads with the question "does this look like a yorkie"....and usually done without the slightest clue of the health history of the pedigree. These comments do a huge disservice to the breed and are a disappointment to see. jmo |
What many on this forum do not understand is that yes there is a great demand for pet Yorkies. As any show breeder will tell you, not every pup in every litter is what we want for the show rings. These are healthy lovely representatives of the breed and are sold for pet. A reputable breeder will be sure to determine the prospective home is the right place for the puppy and will give you all the help etc you will require. No we don't have a whole swack of puppies to sell for pet, that's where patience and finding the right breeder comes into play to buy your pet from. Breeding to fill a pet market and breeding a pet is not the right reason to breed. You end up with Yorkies that look less and less like a Yorkie when pets are bred to pet quality. |
Ok so let me get this straight, you want to breed for a companion for your dog because you think she WANTS a litter?? OMG now I've heard it all. Misty I'm with you all the way, and if someone is only wanting to hear what they want to hear, they should ask their groomer for advice perhaps instead a public forum. By the way everyone, why not we ALLLLLL breed our yorkies huh? So no yorkie feels left out of the "baby having" part of their lives  |
I kinda hate to even reply to this post, since I've only been here about 2 months. I love this forum, but everytime I come to the breeding section, I see nothing but black eyes from someone who wants to learn more. Then of course instead of "learning enough to know they don't want to breed their bitch" they leave mad, and don't learn a thing, and probably breed Anyway, breeding the wrong dogs, which isn't in the standards, or didn't have the right tests done before hand and breed dogs who could later be sick. Most don't know the danger of breeding, but if they are brave enough to stay after they got black eyes, and their a$$es kicked, from some of you all, they decide to have them spayed instead. Its sad some jump on new people like this immediately, before really giving them the time to change their minds. Every one of you breeders started somewhere. Why not help educate folks, instead of beating the krap out of them. They may finally decide breeding isn't for them after all. I know it takes someone special to be a damn good breeder! I know they weren't "born" with this ability. You all learned from someone, somewhere. No sense in replying to this post to throw a punch at me, cause I won't be back in this section to read it.....seen too many people beat up and run off, before they can even decide if they want to breed after looking at the "pro's and cons" of breeding. Then they breed anyway, not knowing chit, and sell pups that "aren't standard". |
Bnot I couldnt have said it better myself, each and every breeder here did all start out not knowing completely all the correct do'sand don'ts of breeding,it is a learning process.even an experienced breeder does not know the outcome of each birth, anything can go wrong. But things go right too and if none of us bred our dogs where would all you yorkie lovers get your puppies from?I am a small breeder,I do it because I enjoy it ,I only have 2 bitches and 1 stud .I hope you dont mind me adding here that I cannot believe how much some of you pay for your yorkies.here in Ireland the average price is 300-500 euro, |

Chocolate, blonde and parti yorkies all are genetically defective. And Yes I would breed any of them as long as they displayed no signs of health defects. What is wrong with that? |

I just believe there are nicer ways to educatre a person than to belittle them for asking a question, using a term they have heard and read over and over again. I had no idea that the word "teacup" was a NO NO I took it the same as the terms baby face or doll face. I assumed it was just a term used to indicate it's small size. |

I agree with what you say. People should try to help or to answer in a positive way. I do not know anything about breeding but anyway, here there are some web sites of Yorkie breeders in Southern California. I do not know if they have small studs you may want to check with them. Good Luck :) www.dolcesinfonia.com www.solodivo.com Quote:

You gotta be tough to post in this forum. Don't throw in the towel yet, it's only the end of round one. I can usually stay till administrations calls the fight cause someone throws a dirty punch. |

Yes I understand that. But the original poster did not know that, nor did they know that those tiny ones should not be bred. We all see them advertised like it's perfectly OK to breed them, so how was she to know. So now instead of learning, she has left and is just as confused as she was when she posted her questions. |

IMO It's like belittleing someone for no knowing how to play a musical instrument. |
I am sure that all breeders (famous and not famous) started with lots of questions and perhaps some mistake too. I am not a breeder but I would feel very offended by some of the posts that I have been reading. We are all here to learn and also to share our love and passion for this beautiful breed. Quote:

some of the people on here will be rude and turn around and breed their dog.....and I wonder where they got their small Yorkies? ..makes you think. Good luck in waht ever you decide to do. People Grow up gees.............The lol this and LOL that is so childish on a thread where someone is asking a question. If they dont ask how are they going to learn?:thumbdown |

Umm... How about they are genetically defective. How do you not know if you are going to produce a dog with even more genetic defects. And people wonder why some of their pet yorkies look nothing like a yorkie... |

Unless you have information on that subject that I am not aware of. If you do, I'd be happy to listen to it. The AKC accepts Parti coloreds, that is good enough for me. |

I'm willing to listen to any argument that can be backed up with concrete evidence. If you can't back up what you are saying then you are just posting useless information. |

Once again I have to agree with Deb. I don't promote the use of the word teacup...never have, because I have yorkshire terriers or yorkies for short. But un-ethical breeders have pushed the word so strongly all over the internet that the new people sometimes REALLY don't know any better. There are alot of un-educated new people in EVERY breed. The "breeders" on the forum should have a little more compassion for the new folks...because our breed's preservence lies in their hands if they are determined to become a breeder whether we like it or not. Why not lend a hand instead of ridiculing all the time. I for one try my best to help out new people all the time on the education of this breed. But in all honesty I do it in PM's and emails rather than have them put through the ringer over and over publicly. I'm all for education...and have a strong understanding that if I want to continue on in the world of yorkies to the best of my ability I MUST help those when I see a true need, if not it's doing NOTHING to help the breed in the end. Being a smart elic to a new person really gets no where and does nothing for our breed when all is said and done. |
      To ALL who posted and took the time to educate on this thread....I'm not commenting but HOPE the person who wants that 'teacup' :thumbdown will continue to read and learn. Sometimes the direct approach is great - Bama had a Very good point - and thanks to everyone else for elaborating there is no such thing as a teacup. It's getting so people get bashed for speaking up when we see the word 'teacup' (not this thread - just in general):) - but it's NOT A Yorkie size - and people need to hear that. I remember when I was looking for my FIRST yorkie & reading up on them - within one day I knew there was no such thing as a Teacup yorkie - |

Yorkieshadow called it right the chuckling lol this and LOL that, is humiliating. I'm sure you've all noticed, the originasl poster has never been back. and the only thing she took away with her is that YT is filled with a bunch of snobs. |
I have spent manymany hours on the computer and on the telephone trying to help new people that doesn't know much. In general, my experience has been, most of the time they want to breed on their terms, don't want to learn the reputable way of getting into YOrkies, don't want to have contracts or be mentored. they'll argue with me telling me I don't know squat and they aren't about to do anything I suggest to help them. Many just want to breed, don't care about the quality of what they have they want to breed. It is getting so far worse right now with these types trying to get their hands on champion lines for no other reason than they are going to ask more money for any resulting pups. Then they get miffed when a reputable show breeder is not about to let them do that with their line. There are many many posts on this forum about breeding and why you shouldn't breed your pet. Many places to find information about what a good YOrkie should look like and how to determine if it should be bred. All that is ignored for the most part. So do excuse me if I get impatient and sometimes get nasty as I get to the point where I know there are so few I am going to get through to anyway. Sure I had to start somewhere but at least I was smart enough to listen to what I was told by long time reputable breeders and was smart enough to look at their dogs, see quality and strive for it myself. |
