Doing my own vaccines OKay - I'm doing my own because my vet only uses the Lepto sooooo my groomer and breeding mentor did one of my pups to show me how. So now I've been searching the web to purchase some and have two questions: 1) Where do you all by yours? 2) Whats up with the $25 shipping costs??? I checked my local Tractor Supply store and they only sell the Lepto as well. Oh I lied! I have 3 questions: 3) How long will the vaccine last? (stored) I see that they sell them in single doeses and then in lots of 25. I don't need 25 right now, but possibly in the future. Seems that if I'm going to spend $25 in shipping I may as well spendit one time instead of buying them individually, ya know? Any advise is much appreciated! Thank you! |
I buy mine from drfostersmith.com they are actually located here in Wisconsin. The shipping was somewhere around $15. The reason for the high shipping cost is because of the requirement of refridgeration. The expiration dates that were on the ones I recently received were six months out. They have various different types of vaccines and the various needles as well. You can also order a free catalog that you will receive in the mail (free). :) Jan |
Thank you K9cuties, I'll check it out! :D Anyone else????????????????? |
Oh! And I'm making this extra post becasue its putting me at 500 posts and I think when that happens money falls from the sky or something??????????????? LOL :D |
Here's a link where shipping is offered free with $25 or more order - And, they sell single dose vaccines without Lepto and quite a bit other canine stuff as well. Good luck! http://www.petcarerx.com/PCareRx/Pro...oducts;Vaccine |
HMMM My Tractor supply sells them BOTH ways. Some places will only charge the extra shipping in the warmer months for icepacks and such. Check around with a google search. |
wow you guys are so helpful! im new to the whole taking care of a dog...and yorkie thing too...and im so lost. I've been spending lots on him...Yeah he's worth it...but im sure there are other ways of spending less money for the same treatment! i love this forum!!! |
vaccine at Jeffers Pet Go online to JeffersPet.com and you can order - I get the 25 at a time- look carefully so you get the right one for our babies or call them at their 800 # which is 800-533-3377 and they will help- The vaccine will have a exp date on it - usually 8 to 12 months out and if you keep the package ( it must be refrigerated) with the vials in the fridge it will keep. Don't forget to order syringes also- I use the fine puppy ones. Oh - I use the "VANGUARD PLUS 5 "- I am using out of a package I got several months ago and I see the exp date on these is March 07- You can also get Bordatella there which I do even though some of my dogs go nowhere cause some do go places with me. I have 4 that love to ride in the car and beat me to the door when they hear car keys- why don't they train that well for other things ? LOL |
We also get our from Drs. Foster/Smith. We buy in the 25 package becausee we have a lot of beaglee puppies. but our local feed store sells the individual ones which we have bought in the past but they are more eexpenssive likee that. |

So here is my dilema.... I have two pups to vacinnate right now. Tia needs to start hers and then the pup I'm selling needs his second soon. After I'm done vaccinating them......I won't have pups again until 2007 (hopefully!!) Will they last if I buy the 25? |
Maybe you could teem up with somebody??? PLUS.... the new pup will need 4 the one now 3 more so thats 7. Figure out what 7 vet visits will cost and I think you will see you will be ahead only using 7. Hopefully somebody near you or you know can use some. |

Wow, you guys are way more daring than I am to vaccinate your own pups! |
I can buy mine here individually or in bulks of 25 for a big savings. The ones I bought this week locally don't expire until October of 2007. They definitely need refrigeration and quick shipping or they will not be any good. I even take an ice chest when I buy them locally. Look in your yellow pages under livestock and farm supply and veterinary supply, someone should have them local. I pay about 5.25 for the Schering Galaxy with no lepto or corona with the syringe, but I can buy the same thing in a bulk of 25 for about $70.00. |

It's not nearly as hard as it sounds!:p And other than well check ups and blood work it saves enormously on vet bills! It is still VERY important to have them seen by a vet but I figure if I can at least do the shots myself safely why not, plus it saves the argument about whether to use or not use lepto!!:D |
I usually do take the puppies to the vet for the first shots just to let him check out their hearts, knees, ears, teeth, etc., but right now we are having a severe parvo outbreak so I felt safer avoiding the vet's office and just doing it myself. |
Thanks everyone for all your input!!!! I appreciate it so much! I called my local TSC store (Tractor Supply) today and they only carry the Lepto. How crazy is that???!!! So I guess its off to the Web for a long search.................. |
When you order the 25 supply do the needles come with them? Do they come with the single doses? |
NO... Everyplace I know that sells the batches.... makes you buy the needles seperate. They are usually between 15-20 cents each. Did you check the site I sent you with the cheap shipping and lowered prices????? |
I did thanks! I was actually looking at PBS Animal health and couldn't find the needles on there, just the syringes. And I actually don't know what size needle to get. Can you help with that? Thanks again! |
Another Question! So I now need to know what size needle I need to order???? What size does everyone use??? I'd guess it would be small???? Help??? |
I'm bumping this cuz I'd like to try and get my order in today :D |
I'm sure if you call the 800 number they can help you get the right things:thumbup: |
JeffersPet told me they recommend the 22 gauge. Does this sound correct? I just want to get the smallest possible. (smaller equals less pain, right?) |
My syringes are marked L-F, 3CC, 22, 3/4, 429616 - |
