| ????'s I have a lot of ?'s 1) Mom is 6lbs and Dad 4lbs. is this an OK size to breed once? 2) Does the mother have to have an e-ray and an ultra sound, and about how much is it? 3) about how much is tail cropping and dew claw removel? 4) About how many pups are usually in a first and in my case only litter? 5) is there anything special I need to know about mom while preg? I have never done this (oviously) and not sure I'm going to. I am considering breeding Lexi just once and not for a profit but to keep ALL of her pups. My mom has a friend who shows 3 yorkies and her male that would be Daddy is akc and a champ of many comps(not sure which ones but I do know he has been on TV for a couple of his shows). Anyway she also has no desire to breed but is letting him hook up with Lexi once just as a favor to me. Now, before I would even atemp this I need lots of info. Like how to breed, when to breed, what to expect, about how much, (and money is not an issue, but I would like to know what I'm getting meself into) how often does she need to see the vet while pregnant, what kind of diet does she need to be on, when the time comes for the pups how will I know if she needs a c-section,how much do I assist when the pups are being born, or do I let mom do it all and only help if she can't?

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I have a lot of ?'s 1) Mom is 6lbs and Dad 4lbs. is this an OK size to breed once? I see nothing wrong with it as long as both are healthy and are good examples with the breed standard. 2) Does the mother have to have an e-ray and an ultra sound, and about how much is it?Ultrasounds are usually done no earlier than 25 days. I had one done with mine. It cost me $45 but I know that they missed at least 1 puppy and possibly 2. They aren't 100% accurate. An X-ray is more accurate but that much later on in the pregnancy when the pups bones are actually developed. 3) about how much is tail cropping and dew claw removel?Again, this is something that every vet charges a different amount for. I'm going to a different vet this time and he charges $17 for the first pup and $3 for each additional pup. Our normal vet charges $28 for the first pup and $6 for each additional. Call around in your area. 4) About how many pups are usually in a first and in my case only litter? You're first litter is usually your smallest. Average pups for a yorkie are 2-4. My friend's yorkie had 5 in her first litter and I know a lady who's dog came from a litter of 9. 5) is there anything special I need to know about mom while preg? There are lots of books you can purchase or even information that you can get on line. Our vet gave me about 20 pages of information at our last visit. Now, before I would even atemp this I need lots of info. Like how to breed, bitches will normally accept a male between 9-14 days into their heat cycle. My gracie didn't accept until the 17 day. when to breed, A lot of people say that you should not breed their first heat cycle. Give them a chance to mature more. what to expect, their pregnancies are a lot like people's pregnancies. But I suggest buying a book and get as much information and education about this before you start. how often does she need to see the vet while pregnant, I know that they don't need to go every month like us, but I took my Gracie 2 during her heat cycle to get a swab/smear so that I would have a "good idea" when she would be ready to accept a male. You should take them around 55 days to get checked. what kind of diet does she need to be on, puppy food should suffice. It has all of the extra protein and calcium she needs. Start her on calcium supplements after the pups are born (I'm just finding this out after 58 days of giving it to her daily) when the time comes for the pups how will I know if she needs a c-section,If she is in hard labor and has been pushing for no more than 1 hour, chances are, she'll need intervention. how much do I assist when the pups are being born, or do I let mom do it all and only help if she can't?[B]help her if she looks like she needs it. GOOD LUCK!! |

| txshopper73, you are awesome. Thank you for all the info. I'm going to be doing alot of reading before I make my decision. Lexi is only 4 months old right now so I have a long tome to learn what needs to be done but I do need to decide before mid May, because if I'm not going to breed her then I want to have her spade before her fist heat.... Again thanks so much for taking the time to answer my ???'s...
