Worried about Amber
 

Should I be concerned? Amber has been constantly panting. Is this normal? She is drinking alot. Also her chest is rising up and down faster than normal.

Oh no! In my experience that is not normal after having puppies. I'd call the vet asap! I sure hope nothing is wrong with her. PLEASE let us know. Please please call the vet.

I'm serious, I feel all panicky. Please call the vet. I'd hate to see anything happen to your little girl, especially with all her new pups.

It could be eclampsya.....I'd get her to the vets.

Sheesh, I keep checking back here as though I am selling something on Ebay. I feel as though every minute is crucial right now...

Yes, I feel the same way. Good thing she posted about it and is getting her to the vet right away. I know I don't know her, but I actually feel scared for her. I sure hope she has good news for us when she gets back.

For those who plan to breed here's a receipe that helps mommies after delivery. It helps give her engergy, helps with calcium and bring in her milk. It can also be given to tinies when weaning.

Post Whelping Pudding

16 oz. water
1 pkg. Knox Gelatin
(micro. to disolve)
15 oz. can evap. milk
2 tabls. vanilla yogurt
2 egg yolks
2 tabls. white corn syrup
mix all ingred. in bowl let set in fridge
until thickens. Spoon out as needed.

Oh I hope Amber is going to be okay. I was so happy for you when I heard of all your little pups. I hate to hear something is wrong with the momma. i will keep watching this thread and hoping for good news

Is this something that can be given to older puppies? Like 6 mos. It sounds delicious.;)

I never have. Usually only fed while weaning or a tiny one till about 16 weeks, but only as a supplement.

How is Amber? I know these things take time, but I am so concerned about her. It has been just about 2 hours. Will keep checking back for an update.

Well I am back from the vet. Everyone at the vet thought she felt really worm. So they took her temp twice and she was normal. He took an x-ray of her and did not see anything but some pockets of air. He did not really give me a diagnosis. He is just gonna treat her for everything it could be is what he said. He gave me an anti-biotic, she got a shot of pain releaver, gave me 4days worth of pain meds and told me to give her a tum a day. I got back a while ago. But when I got back the pups were really cold. We almost lost the littlest one. She was pretty much lifeless. She was barley moving, not crying and very very cold. I think she is gonna be fine now. It took me a long time before I could get her to latch on. I think she was just to weak to even eat. I eventually forced it in her mouth. So between mothers warm milk and mother body heat brought her back. How long is it for this critical stage? When can I relax and know the puppies will be alive the next morning? I am just so stressed. I am trying my hardest to keep them all healthy. Thank you everyone for responding and caring about Amber. I am sooo glad I went to the vet hopefully my little girl will feel better soon.

I also have a very simple recipee and it sure worked on Silk. Or maybe it was the two teaspoons of beer I gave her. Anyway, another breeder gave this to me the other day when Silk didn't have any milk.

Large pkg. of vanilla pudding (the cook kind)

1/2 cup sugar

4 cups milk

4 egg yolks.
Cook on low heat to pudding consistency (takes awhile). Give to your new mommy as much as wants to eat it two or three times a day. it does not give diarreha. If mom does not like it the first time, use a syringe and give about 20-30 cc's

Silk loved it. I mixxeed it up in her regular dog food at a separate time from her cottage cheese meal/

I have that one too , but I did have diarrea with it.

The first 72 hours are the most critical.

It's good to hear that her Calcium levels were ok. Did he give her a POP shot? Do the pudding thing at least once a day for the next week. I actually gave it to my Go-Go till she weaned the puppies. Amber whelped a large litter, so, I'm sure you're going to be watching her like a hawk. If you see her legs start to stiffen as she walks and get wobbly, along with the panting, fever, etc. These are things you watch for. Next time take the puppies with you.

I was afraid to bring the puppies with me. With them being only 24 hours old when I think vets office I think sick animals. I thought they were safer home. I guess that was definetly wrong!

Good luck, do you have any Nutri Drops.....great for reviving puppies.

You're right, things don't slow down until they go to their forever families. But, the worrying doesn't stop there.

So glad to hear she is doing better and you were able to save the little one. You must be so exhausted, mentally and physically. God Bless you, your little Mommy and all her tiny babes.:)
