I'm so glad to hear he is doing better..and it sounds like he is a little fighter. Maybe you should call him Rambo..lol keep up the good work and keep us posted on how he is doing..:) |
If he is finally sucking better, have you tried to get him to nurse from him mother? It really would be best for him to have her milk and the interaction with her and his littermate. I wonder if when he was ready to eat you sat with him and the mother if he would be able to nurse from her. Sounds like you have done a wonderful job of nursing him along. Sometimes they just need a jumpstart. Are you positive he has a cleft palate or was he just premature? As for the name, Scooter, I love it. We had a wonderful blond cocker for 16 years that we named Scooter because when we brought him home he just scooted all over!!! Love the name! Keep up the good work and God Bless you and Scooter! |
Yes I have been putting him on mom. He is still having trouble latching on to her though. She has been cleaning and licking him and helping him potty so I am glad for that. Autumn delivered right on her due date, so I don't think he was premature and I am pretty sure that he has a cleft in the soft pallet...back of the mouth? The front part of the roof of his mouth is fused shut. He just has a small whole in the back. |

That is exactly the same as mine. Her's is in her soft palate. Her front is together. Let me know if I can be of any help. |

As long as I don't see the milk coming out his nose, and his belly is looking fuller, is it safe to assume he is not aspirating it? |
i am so sorry to hear about this. i quess all vets differ regarding med and flea medicine. my vet advised me to use it and it is NOT harmful to the puppies. all of mine were fine. but this scares me b/c if i should decide to have babies again, i would be torn between given the flea medicine or not. the vet also advised me the fleas can give them tape worms while they are inside the body and the masquitoes(spelling..my spell ck is not working) can give them (geee i am having a brain fart) i can't remember what. so what to do?????? i hope everything works out for you. i can't wait to see the photos |

I just wanted to say that I didn't treat Zoey for fleas while she was pregnant. Everything I read told me not to. So I don't know what caused my special Tia. (but I love her to death!) |
How is your little baby doing????????? |

It has been a bad day. Our little Scooter passed over the bridge this morning at 7 am. I have been trying to decide how to post it, and it has been hard. I wrapped him in his little "blankie" which was actually a washclothe and we laid him to rest under my lilac bush out front. I had already loved him so much! :( |
Oh I'm sooo sorry!!!! Thats so terrible. I'm soooo very much sorry to hear that. I wasn't expecting to hear that at all. Please, please accept my condolences. I know its got to be hard to talk about. Its so hard not to get attached to these little ones. Do you know what happened? Was he eating for you? Gosh, I feel so bad and shocked. I'm so sorry. |
We aren't sure what happened. He was still eating for me, but I think he may have aspirated some and I didn't catch it soon enough. We were going to the vet today to get tube feeding supplies. He was doing so well to. He will always be in my heart and I will never stop loving him. I just feel like I must have let him down somehow. |

No you did all you could do. And then some. I look at it this way.....if they pas then it wasn't meant to be, but I know I've done everything I could to help. Every time I go check on my Tia I hold my breath, hoping she's ok. You just never know. Also what we don't know is there could have been more wrong with him other than the cleft. It could be a possibility. I'm here for you. Take care and please remember you did all you could, and more. He was lucky to have you :) |

My husband said something along the same. He said I should take comfort in the fact that Scooter was more loved in four days than some dogs are in their lifetime. |
