Lucy is having her babies now! She gave birth to 1 sofar baby girl 5 oz at 10pm. It has been a half an hr and no second baby yet. I am a little worried that she is rolling all over her girl and digging and etc...if I try to take the baby closer to a safer spot Lucy goes right back to her and again rolls over her etc.. I hope she is not going to hurt the baby, I am sure it is normal and she does have calm moments... any feedback anyone? |
I have no advice as I am not a breeder...but WAY TO GO LUCY!! Congrats on baby number 1!! I hope you are take lots of pics!! Dawn |
wow good luck. Hopefully you are almost there. I would be really careful that Lucy doesn't smother or hurt the pup by laying on her. I'm not a breeder so I wouldn't know for sure if that's normal but never heard of that before. GOODLUCK!!! |
Ok baby #2 out but.. Placenta is still in her and cord is still attatched....The pup is like gasping but that is ok right since it is still atached to placenta?? |

he seems better but worried about him making He seems to be making some noise when he breathes. Kinda mucousy ..I bulbed him many times already..the other girl seems totally alert and noisy if you rub her etc. Maybe he is just a sleepy baby. I just don't want him to get pneumonia or anything. |
Here are some links that might help you. http://www.hilltopanimalhospital.com/whelping1.htm http://marimaykennels.bizland.com/4.htm This one has a ton of whelping site info http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/bre...ng2.htm#wharea http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/medical/whelping.htm http://www.debbiejensen.com |
I know with real babies...they can sound mucousy when they breath at first too...you suctioned him so thats a great thing!! Is he nursing at all yet? Dawn |
how are the babies doing>? how many did you end up with |
Hi everyone, After going to sleep late and waking up constantly to check on our babies, I am really tired today. Lucy had 2 pups. 1 boy and 1 girl. This is what was expected. My concern today is that they are not yet nursing and with the little boy he is way more lethargic than baby #1 the girl. I am wondering if I should start feeding them myself?? Any breeders have any answers? THanks |
If you didnt get the little boy clear when you aspirated he may have fluid on his lungs...Keep latching the kids on the teat...are they strong enough to latch on??? The more they pull on the teat the milk will come down. Are the kids crying? is mom pushing away the little boy? call me if you need some help Ill be home most of the day...503-777-4224 |
Kim you are so awesome. I was just hoping you or Stacy would come and lend a helping hand. :D |

Hi, Thank you for your response! ( Femstr! The little boy seems just not as active and doesn't move around as much to snuggle. Often I have found that he is kinda off to the side and doesn't care to snuggle. Then I push him towards mama and then he will move and crawl on her. They still are not nursing yet. The first one was born last night at 10pm and the second( little boy)at 10:50 pm. He is smaller than the 1st girl. Lucy has milk it seems her teats are very full and she is eating and drinking . She loves the cottage cheese..I am just wondering if I should give him some sugar water or nutrical...etc..what do you think? I will try to push him onto a teat. Also I hate to intrude so much because she keeps messing up her bed and almost like burrying them or just doesn't like the heating pad?? It is barely on and barely warm. ....?? |
Lucy's mom, why don't you call Kim and have her talk you through it. |
Oh! Congrats on the new babies! :p |
The heat pad should be on ONLY ONE SIDE and UNDER the whelping bed on low temp...so if mom gets too warm she can move away from it. If you have a pad that she cant dig on take out the bedding and replace it with something like a carpet and a hand towel for her to dig on...it will be much less disruptive for the babies. You have to be persistent in getting these kids to latch on...OPEN their little mouths and put them on a teat by pressing gently down on the muzzle (latching down on it)...if their strong and hungry they will latch tight! DO NOT give your kids neutrical!!! suppliment with esbliac, just born or goats milk they MUST be feed every two hours or they will get weak and dehydrate! Weigh them three to four times a day to monitor weight gain (keep a log)....it is not rare for them to lose a bit of weight the first 24 hours but after that you should see a consistant weight gain. hope this helps...if you need help please call me anytime of day or night 503-777-4224 |

Good luck i hope everything works out!! |
Sounds like a good idea going to do it now.:D |
How are the babies doing?? |
Any updates on the babies? |
Congratulations on your new babies. Hope all turns out well. I would be scared to death! They are so tiny. Please let us know how the little guy is doing. Hope he is eating by now. |
I spoke with her she said little man may be dehydrated she hears gurgle on the lungs, his skin stays up on his neck and he continues to spot bleed through his cord (which her vet told her not to worry about it). I suggested to get him to the vet for fluids under the skin, a lung check and quick stop!! |
Kimberly and Stacy... ...you guys ever consider getting a 1-800 help line? I mean honestly! You guys could make a fortune! You could get a cool slogan, like, "We Help you Whelp" or something...;) |
Oh poor little guy I hope he gets stronger. It is good that she had you to help her Kimberly. |
I"m sorry, this really ticks me off, a Vet would say to NOT worry about symptoms such as these???? WTH ? |
Congrats on the babies!!! How very exciting !! Glad you found the help you needed for your little one!!! Hope he gets better!! |
