I'm so upset with a breeder Hello, I need to vent... Alost 2 years ago I got 2 yorkies from the same lady, they HAD AKC papers. And the line was a great, healthy line. trying to make this short. One yorkies name is Paris and she had a litter, I went on line to get the AKC puppy papers and was told some thing was wrong, I called AKC.......... Well it seems the Grandfather is not her grandfather. So AKC said they are working on it. Mean time one of Paris pups stops eatting, after test we find out it has liver shunt ! We then had Paris and all the pups tested, thank god they are all fine. We got the little puppy help and he did fine, and Paris will not be having anymore pups. Then we find out Paris grandmother is not her grandmother. I'm sure now everyone wants to know who the breeder of the father is, well its Carol Woods. AKC has tested every dog she has and nothing! So we paid for a good healthy AKC line and got everything but. There are 24 dogs that have lost AKC paper now and can do nothing. Want to know what AKC is doing, nothing ! They say they can not prove she or the lady she sold the litter to mixed them up. The lady she sold the litter to had no other puppies at that time. What are we the owners of these yorkies going to do, at this time we don't know. What is the breeder going to do, nothing! I know 2 other memebers of this group also have yorkies from this mess, maybe they will tell you their tails too. I have heard so many storys where our yorkies came from and we can maybe prove it, but then what ? all this would prove is there was no mix up! What would you do ? What can we do ? I would like to hear what everyone has to say, I know the other 2 memebers would too. Thanks Lynda |
I'm not sure exactly where the mixup occured. Your story was a bit too brief. did the breeder get them mixed up or did AKC.??? |
i'm sorry you have to go through this mabey you can all ban together and get a law suit going i hope this works out please let us know what happens |
Its kinda hard to follow why youre upset but I hope it gets worked out |
up set The breeder of our yorkies father messed up big time. After AKC did DNA on every yorkies she saids she has or had, not one was our yorkies grandfather or grandmother. That was not just a mix up from where I sit. Just not sure what to do at this point. Getting together on this and going after the breeder seem to be the only way to go. We have contacts that say we where sold AKC pups and now they are not. They have no grandparents. Just so up set over it all, I just can't think. Lynda |
Are you a breeder? Were you hoping to sell pups from your dogs as AKC? If you are & know the parents of your dogs, can you register them as purebred with APRI or did the parents have to be registered with APRI as purebreds? You don't want to give your dogs back, do you? |
I know of one other lady that purchased a yorkie from this person that was presented with a pedigree that did not in any way match what was given to her when she got the puppy. Actually she was told that a black and gold yorkie was correct to show--obviously she had not done her homework. At last count I know of 3 cases of leg perthes that has come from that little town in Attella Alabama. I'm so sorry about the liver shunt- I'm glad you did the right thing by having the puppy repaired and I'd like to hear more about it. Did you know that there is a website dedicated to her and her friends? |
up set We had Paris fixed and gave her to a friend, that way we can see her all the time. I did not want her to have any more babys. We would not even think of giving them back now, but I do think we should get some of our money back We do breed about 2 times a year. I could say my dogs are the luckys dogs in the world, but everyone saids that.......lol. I do daycare and one of my daycare partents say she want to come back as one of my dogs.. I do love them more then life, one of our yorkies is a severs dog for our daugther, so she really dose go everywhere with us. I know of the badbreeders site is there more ? I talked to the ladys at bad breeders and as soon as we can get the story together they will look at it and maybe put it on that site. I do have a website, but i don't think I can put it on here. but my name is doggoneyorkies..hint hint... you know if we did sue who do we sue? the lady that has our doggys dad or the lady that has his mom and dad somewhere? Thanks everyone for the help. Lynda |
if you were to sue it would prob be the breeder that you bought the dog from or if she didn't know mabey the breeder she got her dog from i'm not sure? |
I would go after the breeder for compensation and any fees lost. You paid for an AKC pup and didn't get an AKC pup. I'm sure some of your costs to the breeder was because the pup was supposedly AKC, so I would definitly ask for those costs back. I would also follow Amber's advice and get a lawsuit going. If you have an attorney, atleast have him/her send this breeder an intimidation letter. |
black and gold Starwood Yorkies...if you ever come to south Florida to show, better bring a "black and gold" entry, the judges LOVE them here and they do not have to be silk. Some very well known transplanted breeders have had to return to the PA/Md area to finish a correct coated Yorkie.. Lynda, I am sorry for your troubles..if AKC will do nothing, perhaps you can go to Small Claims court and sue the breeder who SOLD you an AKC dog.. It is very puzzling the breeder has no idea who the "possible" sire could be..could she go through her records and give AKC the where abouts of every stud/male she has ever owned, then have them checked if they are still living..the problem is..you can not DNA a dead York or the breeder has no idea where it is..sometimes dogs change hands many times after leaving the breeder.. Best wishes |
This is all so very sad!! I am sorry for what you all have been through!! Hopefully you can get somewhere in small claims court! |
Your story is similair to mine, one I havent shared. Im going thru much the same thing right now. I am a breeder and wanted to improve on my yorkies. I was contacted by a so called friend that his friend had two adult championed sired females they were going to release. I was very excited. My so called friend, acted as a middle man you might say and gave me the info on the yorkies, told me what deposit to send, and when I asked for the breeders contact info, he pretty much said I needed to go thru him. Stupid huh?,,,,,,,,,but thats what I did. I really trusted this person. I sent the deposit a few months in advance and waited for the call as to when to pick them up. Finally plans were made to make the trip and I called the day of departure to confirm the plans. SO my husband and I took off on the 4 1/2 hr drive to kentucky to pick the girls up. The whole day was screwy. When we got to my so called friends house he said it might be a dry run! the breeder was at work and couldnt get off until 6pm, we arrived at 2pm. SO strange since I had called and confirmed that morning! Then they began phonetag for the brief time I was at the mans house I finally insisted for him to let me speak to the breeder myself. She told me the plans for the day had not been verified with her, but we could pick the dogs up after she got off work......4 hours later!.............I said well my kids are at the babysitter's and I couldnt wait and we were going home. I was so upset! As we started to drive home my husband said Why dont we wait, I know you have been excited about the new dogs. My gut told me keep driving, let the deposit slide, keep going but we ended up waiting. We should have kept driving. We met the breeder at her house, I was pleased with the 2 yorkies shown. But behind her house were a herd of others. I was shown the pedigrees, gave copies along with the signed Akc registration papers on them. As we loaded up our new girls and got in the car I was told to hold off for a brief time on registering them, she had a little DNA problem which was in the process of being resolved. She promised it would be cleared up in a snap. I told her I had no knowledge of this and she said my so called friend knew about the lil problem. My gut told me to get out of the car, open the doors and hand her her papers, and yorkies back and take my money back. She was very convincing it would be cleared up in a jiffy. I took the dogs home. Why wasnt I told earlier, like on the phone?? 2 months have went by and the problem is still not cleared up. AKC will give me very little info. The breeder tells me she is waiting for this DNA, and that DNA is being sent in also. Im praying the problem will clear up. SHe is not on the suspended breeders list because its under investigation. I cant imagine A show breeder letting their entire AKC champion bred dogs be suspended from the AKC. But Im very worried about it. I notice she is selling her puppies without papers on her website too (a website I didnt know existed until the dayof pick up) I spoke with my so called friend and we are no longer so called friends. I would be so embarassed to treat someone like this. I would never do business like this. Makes it very hard to trust anyone. I would never do this to anyone let alone a friend. Truth is I wasnt a friend, I was a dollar sign. Mix ups can happen if you have multiple dogs, I understand that, but being dishonest with people comes back to haunt you. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but it comes back. I seriously wonder if a fast one was attempted on the AKC. A puppies DNA did not match with the others in the litter. A mix up like that could happen if you had more then one litter, but why are their many many dogs being DNA'ed and no one is matching up? Im going to give it a little more time and if it clears up GREAT! If it doesnt I will ask for my money back, if it doesnt happen I will have to take other measures. I really like the dogs too, makes me sad and upset to think of returning them. I was too trusting, I didnt heed the warning signs even when they hit me in the head, and my advice is call the AKC too before purchasing from someone, for extra precaution. If I would have called I would have known and the trip would have never been made or a deposit sent either. THe AKC will tell you if someone is under investigation. I just never doubted my ex friend. After putting a deposit down 2 months earlier, being so excited, driving 4 1/2 hours, waiting 4 hours and having a 4 1/2 hr drive home.........I took the girls home. Im gonna give it a few more weeks to resolve, if it doesnt resolve I will post in the breeder review this persons info and PROCEED WITH CAUTION! I have been dealing with the wrong people. |
Need to up date I keep getting asked who the owner of our yorkies daddy is, her name is Peggy. And someone is a bit upset that I did not list her name on my post. You see Peggy is in the same boat we are, she had to learn that her Harlyman did not have a mom or a dad they same way we had to learn. Peggy is not breeding any more, she had Harlyman fixed too. If we did all ban together on this then the cost would not be so great to pay our Lawyer. Yes we talked to my lawyer and the cost would be more then we paid for our yorkies. I'm tell this story to help others, not to hurt anyone. To some people that Truth hurts ! I am telling it just the way it happened, and my lawyer saids I can tell this story to all because it is the truth. There is no law to stop someone from telling the turth. What we are being told is so sad, to bad. No one has to pay in anyway for what was done. Yes I did learn a lot from this, and I will never for get it. I hate that 24 of use have to live with this, I hate that AKC has let this just fly by. But it is clear there is not much we can do but tell our storys and I hope the other 24 will tell it too. At this time is seems thats all we can do. I love my yorkies from where ever just the same, nothing has change on that part. I'm want to thank everyone for the storys they have told and all the help. It really helped me to know others have lived with breeders who just did not care what they had to do to make money. I really love these little guys and would like to think everyone dose, but I know that can't be. I like my doggys a lot more then people thats for sure!....lol... thanks again Lynda |

Well...this is a disturbing story.....Pat....how would someone purchasing a AKC Yorkie be assured that their pup actualy HAS the lineage the Breeder SAID it did! Francie |
info I know AKC has records for every dog that is registered, when and with who. It almost seems like a run-a-around which is sad. Keep up with calling them frequently and even sending snail mail so you have a good record. If the grandfather isn't correct-- where did he come from and are they being looked at. I expect before long AKC to require DNA on both sires and dams for this very issue. Wishing you lots of luck. |
The AKC moves at a snails pace. When there is a problem they often will step back and tell you to get a attorney. I know first hand. That they are not a lot of help when you need them. Stay calm- be cool and hound the AKC- ask for every department that you can and talk to every person that you can. Remember the squeekey wheel will get greased. Besy of luck in resolving this matter. |
In my situation, the only help Ive got from the AKC is "the party is still under investigation." But thats all they will tell you. They wont even tell you the date the investigation started. The breeder assures me the problem will be resolved very shortly. I am so hoping it will. I really like to beleive people. ...........I really dont know how long I should wait? Maybe it will resolve? Maybe it wont. Sure seems to be a big drawn out problem. |
pedigree A pedigree is only as honest as the breeders behind it. The only way to know 100%, is to have both parents DNA'ed...but it will be on your dime..AKC does not run routine tests unless for buyers unless there is a dispute as to who the sire actually is..then if it is found to all be correct, and the breeder is not at fault... you, the pup owner will have to pay all the fees..around $500 to start. These things are not worth it to me..I alway say, "cut your losses and get out"...you can spend a fortune and much time with these kind of problems..deal with reputable breeders who stand behind their peds..and a reputable breeder would refund your money if a pup is not what they say it is...that goes for parentage, qaulity, size, whatever.. Welcome to the real world of dog breeding... |
question Linda...does your bitch have LBV in her pedigree? |

Helen wrote to the AKC again on this same person because they have never gave her breeding information on who dogs that she co-owned with this person were bred too-who resulting puppies on females that she owned were sold to. This person had physical posession of the dogs for showing reasons and it was hard for her to know what was going on. The AKC stated they would contact the other party in May- she is still waiting for the information. Keep your chin up they move at a snails pace. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers- I know how difficult this can be for you. Kathy |
Per the breeder.........the problem doesnt lie with who the sire is, it is who the mother is??????? They tested her dams for some reason. Two puppies DNA didnt match in a litter was what I was told. Puppies were mixed up during cleaning by a young helper is the story. SO wouldnt it be a matter of sending in all the DNA's of females who had litters at that time? No one has matched up yet. But the breeder did mention having a male tested she had sold who had already left her house a few months before too. When I was told that I was confused even more. Its all very confusing to me. I dont understand it at all truthfully. But the breeder has sent in DNA's so they are attempting to resolve the problem whatever the problem is....lol They have successfully shown their dogs alot in the past, so it only makes sense they would want to clear the problem up and not lose their AKC privileges. Just trying to be patient and optimistic all will be fine. |
problem You should be able to get this worked out if the breeder is so co-operative as you say..and the breeder certainly can be telling the truth about the pups being mixed up by a helper. A stud client have two litters from my boys some years ago. She took then in a large wicker basket to the vet for tail docking. She put a rolled towel down the center thinking she was safe..got home and all 8 pups were sleeping the middle of the basket together. She was honest and told me what happened. I with held AKC papers from her and the two litters were not allowed to be registered. There was no DNA back then, so there was nothing to do to fix it. If she had not been honest and told me, I would have given her an application to apply for papers thinking all was well...that is how pedigrees are destroyed and become meaningless...the pedigree is only as honest as the breeder. For anyone to request DNA from a breeder is a red flag IMO anyway...someone must have gotten wind of problems. JMO |

Wnalegria it would also be nice if you would enlighten us as to who you keep referring to in your threads. It seems you and Helen have alot to share. One would also think that if you co-own a dog with someone you would also keep records on the dog you co-own? For example you co-own at least two male dogs and I would presume that you have shared all the important information for recording keeping with the other co-owners of these two particular male dogs, right? I would be referring to when they have been used for stud and to what females they have been studded to. |
This is fraud the police should get involved and set an example we pay good money for our babies you should sue her you know what Im soo sorry ,you bought with good faith she intentionally committed fraud. |
My first Yorkie and his brother were sired by one of her dogs, Mine had PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosis) and required surgery to save his life, my friend's boy has a slowed Sinus Arrythmia upon Exhale, but nothing can be done to help him, keeping weight off, and proper excercise is the only thing that will prolong his life. Fortunately these 2 boys are neutered, but I can't speak for the other FOUR PUPS in the litter. :( This is very sad, and I am very sorry for you. :( Quote:
